CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
Chloe’s P.O.V
I stopped crying and sat by his bed playing with his hair and placed a kiss on his forehead gently, his chest and head wrapped in bandages and you can see where he got shot from the blood seeping through.
“I’m sorry for putting you through all this,” I whispered.
I truly was, why did she shoot him over something so stupid, and why not me instead?
Why leave me alive if I was the one she wanted gone?
I gritted my teeth. “I’ll kill them,” I whispered.
“What?” I could tell she’s not believing what I’m saying.
“I said I’ll kill them all,” I say louder.
“I think we should just go to the police,” She says uncomfortably.
“No, they took Colby away, remember,” I said, getting angrier.
“Yes, but that was a misunderstanding,” She says, trying to explain.
“I don’t care, I don’t want him in jail, I want them dead!” I yelled, all the nurses stared at us through the open door.
“Okay, okay lower your voice,” Hayley says in a whisper.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes trying to keep my thoughts in order.
I stood up and kissed him on the forehead one more time, and looked up at Hayley.
“We should leave,” I said, caressing his cheek.
“Alright I’m ready when you are,” Hayley sighed.
“I’ll be back,” I whispered to Colby and followed Hayley throughout the hospital and out the front doors, going out into the parking lot.
I followed Hayley to her silver car that wasn’t as nice as the others I’ve been in.
She unlocked the car and I got in and did my seatbelt, it was pretty cramped.
I’m not one to complain, I'm just angry.
She started up the car and we drove out of the parking lot, Colby’s bag on my lap.
“What’s in that,” She asked curiously.
“I don’t know,” I say tightening my grip on the bag.
“Is it Colby’s?” She says keeping an eye on the road.
“Yeah, he was carrying it when he got shot,” I explained looking down.
“Oh, you weren’t serious back there right?” She asked nervously, running her hands through her hair.
“No I am serious, just not sure how to do it yet,” I say honestly looking down at the floor.
“Oh,” We drove in silence for a good while, I was mostly silent because I was figuring how to kill them.
Colby says before that Alastair was a businessman, but Colby’s friend needed to dispose of that woman’s body that Alastair told him to keep a watch over but ended up killing her instead.
Which means even if I find that guy he would be on Alastair’s side, maybe I should start with Lucey first, but how?
I sighed I really need a cigarette but I don’t even know if Hayley smokes.
“You good?” Hayley asked.
“As good as I can be without Colby,” I say gently my eyes felt puffy from all the crying..
“I get it, things must be really scary for you,” She says giving me a side glance.
I nodded and looked out the window.
Now being awake and it is light enough to see our surroundings I noticed we were driving through a small farm, I only knew that because of picture books Colby gave us when we were kids; there were cows and horses and a red and white barn in the back.
“I need to get tougher,” I accidentally said out loud.
“Tougher?” She laughed, her head laid back against her shoulders.
“What’s so funny?” I questioned burrowing my eyebrows.
“Chloe, you’re already the toughest woman I know,” She explained with a smirk
“How?” I asked, tilting my head in confusion.
“Well let’s see; you endured years of abuse, you lived in a basement your whole life and now your here on the outside by yourself with me; a stranger, the one person you do trust is in a coma, I mean seriously Chloe you're amazing.” She explained, shaking her head.
“Yeah I guess you’re right,” I said, blushing a little from the compliment.
I looked over at Her, it was the first time I really looked at her.
She had fiery red hair, grey eyes with pale white skin, paler than mine, and she was wearing a bright red crop top with black leggings.
Hayley has a bit of makeup on, black mascara, red lipstick, light pink eyeshadow with black eyeliner.
She was really pretty, it made me a bit jealous; with my brunette hair and boring blue eyes, I don’t look all that extraordinary.
