CHAPTER FIFTY-NINE (IGNORE LAST CHAPTER)
Chloe's P.O.V
I stood there breathless as I went face first into a police officer's chest.
I stepped back trying to hold back the surprise, letting him into the room. "Are you the woman with the missing babies?"
I can't lie or I'd be seen as an accomplice.
"Yes I am." Letting worry fill my voice, my hands laced together anxiously.
"When was the last time you saw them?" The more brute officer asked, his hand lazily on his gun holt.
I eyed my mother for support before answering. "I, I didn't."
Something hard was in my throat, something I couldn't swallow.
"You don't know?" The man asked, raising a condescending eyebrow and folded his arms.
"She was out cold, they were born prematurely due to unforeseen circumstances." My mother says, coming to my rescue, and wrapping her arm around my shoulders.
"Is this true?" The man didn't seem to believe me, what mother would lie about their child?
"Officer, I would never lie about my babies going missing, instead of asking so many questions, why don't you go find them?" I was angry, I pointed to the door, and my face was beginning to turn red.
A woman officer placed a hand on my arm before speaking. "I understand this is a very stressful situation, but we are asking these questions for good reason."
"Well, what it sounds like is that you're trying to accuse me." I say now crossing my own arms.
"Ma'am, I'm asking these questions to rule you out of the suspects." The man says writing something down.
"No, I haven't even left the hospital." I rolled my eyes in annoyance.
``How dare they?' "-And the man that was here with you?" He looked up from his pen and paper waiting for my response.
"Trying to find them." I narrowed my eyes. "Something the two of you should be doing."
He wrote that down too, the sound of a pen scratching paper. "How does he know where to look?"
That question made my breath hitch but I know from all the books I read that they psychoanalyze, so I steadied my breathing.
"-Because we know who took them." I say, my hands forming into fists.
He placed his hands at his sides now. "Then who was it?"
My mouth went dry, this is it. This is the question I was dreading. "His parents."
"Are they the grandparents?" He asked, placing a hand on his belt again, notebook still in hand.
"Yes, but they are dangerous people." I attempted to explain but he stopped listening, as a nurse came in, and he started to make googly eyes at her.
The female officer smacked him hard in his chest to get his attention again, and he cleared his throat. "Nurse."
The nurse stopped for a moment and turned around. "Yes?"
"The birth certificate for the twins, can you get them for me?" He asked more professionally.
"Of course," she hurried out of the room.
A long moment later she came back with the papers and passed them to the male officer. "Thank you."
His face turned white as a ghost as he read Colby's last name, and looked back up at me.
"Where are they?" The man asked, his uncaring tone turned into anger.
"If I knew I'd tell you. As I said, they kidnapped my babies."
"Well obviously Colby has a clue, so where did 'he' go?" He demanded me to answer his questions but truthfully all I know is that they left the city.
"All I know is that they left the city, if I had any more information you'd already have it." The obvious amount of annoyance radiated off of the two of us and we stood in an irritated stare down.
"Do you at least know which way?' he questioned once more and I took a moment to think.
"I think he said north, no wait south… or maybe it was east?" I couldn't remember I was so full of hysteria between Scarlett and coming to terms of what just happened that my mind is just so scattered.
He sighed and put his hands over his face, leaning his head back in annoyance. "That information, they could literally be anywhere."
"Well then maybe you should start looking." I say rolling my eyes.
"She's right to send a car in each direction and when we see anything suspicious we will investigate. For now it might be our best bet." The female cop says taking off her radio and putting it to her mouth to make a call of order.
"That sounds like a waste of time." The Male officer commented.
"We have an amber Alert for two new born babies, that have the golden knifes gang involved, and has left the city if I could get four squad cars for each direction, and if you see anything or hear anything be sure to keep us updated." The woman continued of her radio.
"I don't think many are going to re-."
"Ten-four, on the east route." One said over the radio.
"Ten-four, on west-bound." Another said.
"Copy that, goin' south." A third replied
"Ten-four, heading north." And lastly fourth.
"You were saying?" She glared at him in 'I know how to do my job' attitude.
"We will also go look around the heart of the city in case they tricked you, they don't use the same place twice so we will have to be diligent. If you remember anything else, don't hesitate to call." She says, passing me her business card.
"Okay, thank you, er." I read her name. "Sgt. Koella." She smiled sadly and nodded before pushing the man out the door before he said anything else.
I took a deep breath as they left the room, and it was like my body deflated, I was so exhausted I collapsed.
Colby's P.O.V
We were still on the road, my head felt like it was going to give in to the much needed sleep I've been ignoring, it's nearly midnight now and Jason took a nap for the past few hours, and he awoke with a loud yawn and a hand rubbing his tired eyes. "Are we still driving?"
'Yeah but we might need to stop at a gas station because we are running low on gas." I replied, eyeing the gas meter that was slowly imploding to Zero.
"Alright, might as well get a coffee while we are at it." He says yawning through his speech.
"Yeah I'm exhausted." I admitted, noticing a small gas station up ahead on the highway.
We slowed down as I got ready to take the left turn, turning on the turning signal as other cars persisted to drive past.
Once it was safe to turn I quickly put the car in drive, passed the other lane and went into the gas station and put it into park.
I put the nozzle of the gas canister into the tank watching the price go up as it filled, my arms crossed leaning against the car.
After it was done I placed the nozzle back into the holder.
Jason got out of the car and we walked into the gas station, the doorbell made a ding sound as we entered.
"Good evening." The cashier called over to us.
"Evening." I replied back making our way to the fridges that held cans of pop and energy drinks.
Jason continued on looking over at the chips and snacks, I opened the refrigerator picking up two original energy drinks called 'Spaz' as someone else entered the small station.
Not thinking much of it I didn't turn around, probably someone else paying for gas.
Jason made his way over and I passed him the items in my hand.
"Give me all the money in the fucking register." A man yelled at the front.
I slowly turned around to see the cashier held at gunpoint.
Jason and I leaned down behind one of the shelves holding cans and boxed crackers.
"Please don't hurt me." The woman cried out holding her hands up, absolutely terrified.
"Shut up and open the cash register." The guy had a black mask over his face.
I shimmied quietly and carefully towards the front.
