Chapter20 About to Die

Just as I entered the building of my office, I frowned, looking around.
Everyone was looking so tense. I quickly made my way towards my office.
I looked up and Zach was talking to a group of employees.
Zach was fidgeting with his fingers, while Ivaan shrank back on the couch, his gaze darting around.
"What's going on, guys?" I inquired as I approached my large, comfortable chair.
When they all noticed me, their faces went pale.
I looked at Ivaan, who was lost in thought.
"Bro, what happened? Why was everyone in so much tension?" I asked while biting my lip.
I can come out of his trance by listening to my voice.
"Bri, when you arrive here," he stood from the couch, coming towards me.
"Just now," I answered while opening my laptop.
I glanced at everyone. They were all looking so tense.
"Actually, Brille, we also don't know what just happened this morning, but as soon as the share market got opened, the shares of our company fell drastically, not only that many other important investors and business partners backed up from the company," Zach said, showing me his iPad, which was showing the vulnerable condition of my company.
I tugged at the paper I was reading, biting my lip. I looked at the iPad.
Oh God, that's sick. How does it happen?
"B... but w... what just happened suddenly? The condition of our company was not that bad before, then how did it happen?" my voice cracked at the end.
"We're also trying to figure out what happened so suddenly," I keep looking at stock market reports.
"How it's possible," I felt my stomach lurch, with my hands feeling so weak, like I couldn't feel the weight around me.
"How is it possible?" I paced around,
"Don't know, Bri, but I think we must do something as soon as possible because it's got to get worse with each passing second," Ivaan murmured when Zach showed him something on his iPad.
"Yea, you're right, we have to do something," I whispered and shrank down in my seat.
This is very unexpected and a complete shocker for me. This is my dad's company. I just can't lose it.
I've always been a loser, and I think today I proved it again.
"Alright, I'll call the meeting of the board of directors, with all the important investors who just backed away from the company. Let's see what we can do," Zach said while talking on his phone.
Ivan spoke up, and I nodded.
I sighed and looked at the door again.
No one, no one comes to the meeting.
Most of the people make excuses that they're busy with something and can't make it, and the remaining don't pick up our calls.
What's happening, man, and why?
Most importantly, how can it happen so quickly?
I shook my head and leaned back over the seat of my conference hall.
Suddenly, Zach appeared from behind the door.
"Bri, Mr. Zuriel Richardon, I mean your husband's secretary called, he was saying that you're expected to show up at the discussion there, in about 15 minutes." He said
"About?" I asked.
"About that, sales and marketing of international products," he said, pulling out a file and his iPad.
"I've got everything ready for presentation too," he said.
"Yes, we are going there. They're the only important investors we have now. We just can't lose them or the company will get bankrupt," I said, and we sat in the car.
"What the hell?" Zach shook his head and I looked around at the heavy traffic jam.
"It's impossible to reach there on time," Zach muttered.
I glance at my watch. Only half an hour is left. I can't wait here anymore.
I quickly came out of the var, grabbed the files and iPad, and ran towards the road.
"Brille," Zach called me out while following me.
"We can't sit here Zach, we have to be there on time. It's like do or die for us," I said, and he sighed.
"Brille, watch out," Zach screamed and quickly pulled me away, spinning me around and a car with a halt passed away just beside us.
"Bri, you should be careful," When Zach cried out, my heart pounded in my chest, and my mouth felt parched.
I've never been in such a situation before. You know, when you see your death with so much close to you.
We went to a nearby cafe, and Zach made me sit on a chair while he went somewhere else.
"You're such a silly and stupid girl," Zach said while bringing a water bottle from the freezer of the cafe, while I tried to calm myself.
What if Zach didn't save me? I would have died there.
I quickly gulped the whole bottle in at once and looked at Zach.
"Let's go, we're already very late. I don't want to waste more time," I said, taking deep breaths. My chest gets so right, as it comes in my throat, making it hard to breathe.
He nodded, "Let's call a cab." He pulled out his phone and I looked outside from the window.
I never imagined that I would face a situation in my life where I would be on the verge of ruining everything.
"Shit, can't you do something else, or is there any other way?" Zach sighed as he hung up the phone.
"What happened, Zach?" I asked him.
"Traffic was still there, so no cab could come before evening," he said, and I snapped my head at him.
I just can't sit here and wait for the evening. I was expected to be there and I've already wasted lots of time. I'm going. I quickly stood up.
"Isn't he your husband? I don't think it will mind if you get late for a meeting," Zach said.
I frowned at him.
"How can you think like this Zach? You know me very well, you've known me since childhood; do you think I'm the type of person who will take advantage of others and their reputation for my own gain?" I asked.
He quickly shook his head, "I don't mean like that, it's just today is an emergency. He can understand our situation, can't he? It's not like you've been late every time in meetings," he said.
I shook my head, "I know what do you mean, I know your intention was clear, but I don't care what he thinks of me, or if he favours me if I get late, my work is to show up on time," I said, going out of the café, with him following me.
*********
I wiped away the sweat from my head as I entered the most luxurious place I've ever seen. My company's building was nothing in front of this sky scrapper of Richarson's Empires.
"Guards and employees working there greeted me."
They probably would have recognised me.
I need to see them smiling while going towards the elevator.
Finally, when I arrived at the CEO's floor
"Good morning, Mrs. Ricohrsom," a man, looking the same age as Zuriel, greeted me.
"Good morning," I said with a smile.
"I'm Elvin, personal assistant to Mr. Richardson," he introduced himself.
"Where is Zuriel?" I asked him.
"Sir is in his office," he said, motioning to a large gate made of the finest glass, as well as a staircase made entirely of glass.
I quickly ran towards his office.
"Zach, you can go to the conference room. I will join you," I told him, and he smiled and went towards the conference room, with Zuriel's assistant.
Just as I was about to enter his office, I opened the gate a little, but I felt frozen at my place and felt like the surroundings had frozen suddenly. It felt like time stopped here, because of the next words I heard from inside of his office.
