A glimpse of desire..

RYAN

Right from his heydey,Max Jenkins had been quite the hearthrob, famous for his dark tousled hair and his charming one sided dimple. He's nearly 60 now but could easily pass as a man in his forties. I took after him in many ways- his build, his features but my hair was different. My blonde hair was a trait I inherited from my mother.

Standing beside him was his new wife,Lisa. She stood elegant in her wedding dress and I noticed a vague resemblance between her and Violet

I watched them exchange cows and share their first kiss as a married couple. I couldn't help but feel a twinge of boredom. Weddings to me have always been a hassle. The exchange of vows, the obligatory kisses, the endless flow of music, the heartfelt speeches and toasts seems like an exhausting charade.

I wouldn’t have bothered attending if I hadn’t known my father would notice my absence and almost certainly would kill me..He had made it clear that this was a mandatory family event, So here I was, completely stuck. I took a sip from the drink I was holding, trying to drown out the boredom. My gaze wandered around the room, searching for anything to capture my attention, when it suddenly landed on Violet. My glass froze halfway to my mouth. ..

She was enveloped in a soft lavender dress that cascaded around her. It was neither too tight nor too loose but fitted in a way that accentuated her figure.
I had always seen her in oversized, casual clothes but this dress transformed her into someone else. Her hair fell in gentle waves around her shoulders and her makeup, though light, highlighted the natural beauty I had often overlooked.

I couldn’t tear my eyes away, and for the first time, I found myself truly attracted to her appearance—a stark contrast to the way I had always seen her.

A girl of her age stood beside her, whom I figured was Ashley. They were engaged in conversation, with Ashley giggling and Violet laughing almost at every word. Despite the interaction, Violet's expression suggested she was as uninterested in the wedding as I was.

“Your stepsister is one heck of a pretty lady,” Kyle’s voice said behind me, snapping me out of my trance.

I had almost forgotten about Kyle’s presence. I didn't officially invite him, but I had mentioned the wedding, and he had been insistent about attending. Jack would have come too, but he was out of town at the moment.

“Is she?” I feigned ignorance, turning slightly to face Kyle . “I hadn’t noticed.”

Kyle chuckled, shaking his head. “You’ve been staring at her ever since,” he said with a grin, taking a sip of his drink. “You’ve made it so obvious.”

Just as I was about to retort, Violet and Ashley’s attention suddenly shifted towards us. Ashley’s face lit up when she spotted Kyle, she waved enthusiastically. And they made their way towards us,

“Hey, Kyle!” Ashley called out, her voice brimming with excitement. “Thanks for the other night.”

“No problem, Ashley. Glad I could help,” Kyle replied, his charm on full display as he extended his hand for a handshake. Ashley took it, and I noticed a faint blush spreading across her cheeks.

“Violet, congratulations” Kyle said,Turning his attention to Violet.

Violet offered a polite smile and a soft “Thank you,” her eyes briefly meeting mine before shifting away. I focused on my phone, trying to ignore their conversation, but my gaze kept flicking towards Violet. She was captivating in a way I hadn’t anticipated.

Kyle and Ashley continued chatting about random topics while Violet occasionally chimed in. I could sense her unease beneath the surface.

Eventually, Ashley and Violet decided to leave. Ashley mentioned something about Violet needing to take care of a few things, and they both moved off.

Kyle’s gaze lingered on Ashley as she walked away, and I had to suppress a scoff. It was surprising, given that Kyle wasn’t the type to seek out casual hookups—he was known for being a straight-up prude

.“Uhm... I’ll be right back. I need to tell...” Kyle didn’t finish his sentence before turning and heading in their direction.

Kyle definitely liked Ashley. The thought made my lips curl into a smile.

Flirting with girls flooding my inbox with messages did nothing to ease my boredom and eventually,I decided to get some fresh air. I slipped out of the main hall and wandered to a quieter part of the venue - a secluded garden area that was less crowded. I background .

I plucked a Cuban cigar from the box in my pocket and lit it, savoring the smoke while I examined the surrounding. I leaned against the stone wall. The soft hum of the wedding faded into the background.

I heard footsteps approaching and to my surprise Violet appeared. She paused when she saw me,her expression a mix of surprise and discomfort.

“Are you stalking me now, mouse?” I said with a smirk, releasing a puff of smoke.

“You wish,” she muttered, stepping closer. “Your lungs are going to hate you for that.”

I raised an eyebrow and exhaled a thick cloud of smoke, obscuring her face. “My lungs are already well-acquainted with it. They get a lot of practice.”

She let out an eyeroll. “It ain’t healthy. You’ll die soon if you keep that up.”

“Stop talking like that or I might be forced to think you care about me,” I said, taking another lazy drag.

“You give yourself so much credit,” she retorted. “I only said that because smoking is not exactly the most responsible thing to do at a wedding. You need to uphold some level of decency.” She huffed, looking slightly annoyed, and a dark satisfaction filled my chest.

“Touché,” I conceded with a grin. “But you’re not exactly in a position to lecture me on decency, are you? Wandering off to the garden in the middle of the wedding?”

“I needed a break,” she said defensively.

“Uhm...” I mumbled, stretching a cigarette toward her. “Want this? It’ll help clear your mind.”

She stared at me, then at the cigarette before shaking her head in disbelief. “Unlike you, I have some sense of decency.”

“You care so much about the rules, stepsister,” I said, taking a step closer.. “You live for societal expectations. Sometimes, you don’t have to follow the rules, but satisfying people has eaten deep into you.”

She glared hard at me, her eyes blazing with anger. “You know nothing about me. Nothing gives you the right to say that.”

I took another step toward her, closing the distance between us and she retreated . With each step I took closer, she moved until she was pinned against the wall.

“I see you” I said, my voice low. “I saw how uncomfortable you were in this dress, How you kept pulling at the waist, trying to make it fit right, but it was never quite right. You wore it because you didn’t want to let people down. You don’t want them to be disappointed in you.”

Silence hung between us,the only sound was her pounding heart.

How much faster would it beat if I wrapped her hair around my fist and pulled her head back. If I kissed her with a passion that left her breathless? If I shred off her dress till she begged me to fuck her.

Heat ran to my groin. I had no intention of taking it further but she seems so innocent yet her demeanor hinted at a hidden desire for corruption

The silence was grave and I raised my hand,my thumb tracing her bottom lips. Her breathing slowed but she didn't pull away. Sha stared at me as if daring me to continue. I savored the softness of her lips,my thumb exploring the lush curves of her mouth. It was disturbingly tempting.

My thumb froze at the middle of her lips before I withdrew muttering a silent curse

“We should get back to the party” I said to her and without another word,I left.
