The secret plan

RYAN

The dim light of the hospital room flickered slightly, casting long shadows across the sterile white walls.

I sat in the uncomfortable chair, staring at Violet's sleeping figure, my breath shallow as I watched the slow rise and fall of her chest. She looked fragile, too pale and bruised. The soft beep of the heart monitor was the only thing keeping me sane.

A million thoughts churned in my mind, but none of them could quiet the guilt eating away at me.

I hadn’t protected her. I hadn’t been there when she needed me the most.

I squeezed her hand, careful not to disturb her, but the contact made something in my chest twist. She looked so fragile, so broken. The bruises on her arms and the faint cuts on her face were reminders of how close I’d come to losing her.

For hours now, I’d been sitting here, replaying every moment of the past few days in my head. How could I not have noticed the signs? How could I have let her slip through my fingers like that?

She had told me about how he had taunted her with messages before she passed out and somehow it made my guilt worse. I had missed it. All the times I thought she was pulling away, shutting me out, she had been dealing with this nightmare, and I didn’t see it.

If only I could murder that bastard. The cops confirmed he

The knot in my throat tightened, and I tried to swallow the overwhelming lump. She's alive, she's here now. All that matters..

The door creaked open, and I looked up to see Ashley and Luke enter the room, their expressions a mix of concern and anxiety.

Ashley’s eyes darted to Violet, taking in the sight of her, while Luke’s brow furrowed

“Ryan,” Ashley breathed, her voice barely above a whisper. “How is she?”

“She hasn’t woken up yet,” I replied curtly, my gaze returning to Violet’s still form. I didn’t want to get into it. Not now.

Luke glanced at me, then back at Violet.

“We were so worried. We didn’t know what happened after..”

“Yeah, well, it wasn’t exactly a picnic for her either,” I snapped, the anger flaring inside me again. I quickly swallowed it down. “I just… I just want her to wake up.”

Ashley moved closer, brushing a hand over Violet’s hair. “I can’t believe this happened. She was so excited for the camping trip…”

“Yeah,” I muttered, trying to keep my voice steady. “Guess it didn’t go as planned.”

I stood up, the chair scraping against the floor as I moved away from Violet's bed. With Ashley and Luke here, the last thing I needed was an audience.

Ashley moved closer to Violet, her voice soft and gentle as she whispered, “We’ll stay with her. You should get some rest, Ryan.”

Yeah,I was about to do just that.

I shook my head, not even bothering to look at her. I glanced back at Violet one last time. She didn’t need me hovering over her right now. She'd be better off with her best friends.

“"Let me know the minute she's up," I muttered, shoving my hands into my jacket pockets. Luke gave me a nod, while Ashley remained silent, her arms folded as if trying to protect herself from everything we couldn't control.

Stepping out of the hospital, the cold evening air wrapped around me. I pulled out my phone when it buzzed, the screen lighting up with a text from Jack.

"Done. Meet at the forwarded point.”

Finally.A smirk pulled at the corners of my lips. Payback time.

I slid into my car, the engine growling to life as I gripped the steering wheel. The address Jack sent me wasn’t far, but it felt like miles with the way my mind raced. Every turn of the wheel brought me closer to him—the bastard who had taken Violet. And this time, the cops weren't going to stop me.

I didn’t care about the police. This was personal. I had my own plan, and it didn’t involve legalities or rules. I Jack had been clear about the arrangements. He'd hired a few guys—rough types, not the kind you'd call on for favors lightly. They were tasked with intercepting the cop car and pulling him out before they could bring him in. If everything had gone to plan, the bastard would be at the hideout by now. Waiting.

What I want to do next wasn’t just about a few punches. No, I wanted him to feel every ounce of pain he'd caused—every bit of fear he’d forced Violet to endure.

After what felt like hours, I pulled up to an old warehouse at the edge of town, the place where Jack’s men had stashed him.

Isolated.

Perfect.I stepped out of the car, the crunch of gravel under my boots the only sound in the otherwise quiet night. I approached the side door, pushing it open with more force than necessary.

Jack was waiting for me by the entrance, arms crossed with a satisfied smile

"He’s in the back," he said, jerking his head toward the far end of the building. “Tied up. You’ve got all the time you need.”

I didn’t say a word, just gave him a curt nod before walking past. The adrenaline was pumping through my veins now,.

As I got closer, I saw him. There he was—sitting in a chair, hands tied behind his back, head slumped forward. I could barely see his face, but I knew it was him.

I stopped just short of him, my fists clenched at my sides. He looked up slowly, his eyes bloodshot and swollen.

Jack sure must have done his part.

There was no smile on his lips now. No smug expression. Just fear.

Good.

I took a slow, deliberate breath before I finally spoke.

“You messed with the wrong person” I said

"And now, you're going to pay for it."His eyes flickered with panic, his mouth working to form words, but the gag stuffed in his mouth kept him silent.I took a step closer, the satisfaction of his fear giving me just a sliver of relief.

“You thought the cops would save you?” I sneered. “You thought this was going to end with a nice, tidy arrest?” I crouched down so we were eye level, my expression hardening.

His eyes shot up in pain and I relish this moment. Time to let my fist do the talking

The first punch landed square on his jaw. He stumbled back, a groan escaping his lips as blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.

“That’s for Violet” I snarled, grabbing him by the collar and throwing him against the wall.

“You think you can just hurt her and get away by an arrest ” He coughed, struggling to speak, but the gag stopped him again .

Another punch landed, harder this time followed by his muffled cries.

We're definitely going all night at thi
