FRACTURED TENSION

RYAN

"Let's go of her this instant or you'll wish you had" My voice came out low and dangerously calm. Evelyn froze, her grip loosening immediately and she took a step back from Violet. Violet eyes met mine and she quickly averted.

Right..

Evelyn's shock quickly builded into indignation. She straightened herself, flipping her hair with a scoff. "I have a business with her Ryan which is not yours"

"You're wrong Evelyn. It became my business the moment you put your hands on her"

She blinked, clearly not expecting me to take Violet's side. Confusion flickered across her face but she was quick to mask it with a smug smile.

"Since when do you care?"

"The next time you touch her" I took a step closer, forcing her to look up at me " I'll be sure to make your stay in this school hell"

Her lips trembled for a second,as if she wanted to say something but she refrained herself. She threw one last glare at Violet before storming past me.

“Violet…”

I turned back to Violet but before I could say anything, the door swung open and a guy burst in.

"Violet! You took so long, are you okay?"The guy practically rushed toward her, concern etched across his face.

He didn’t even acknowledge my presence, his entire focus was on Violet as he stepped in close, his hand resting lightly on her arm

“Yeah, I’m fine” she said, offering him a small smile, but the guy frowned.

"Are you sure? You seem... shaken."

“I’m fine, really.” She brushed her hair back. And the whole time, she didn’t even look at me. Like I wasn’t standing there.

My jaw clenched involuntarily, the sight of the guy being so close to her—so damn familiar with her—was making something dark twist in my chest. Jealousy? Anger? It didn’t matter.

All I knew was it felt wrong, seeing her with him. But I stayed silent, biting back the words that rose in my throat.I wanted to tell him to back off. I wanted to tell her to stop pretending I didn’t exist. But instead, I stood there, rooted in place, while Violet kept her attention solely on him.

She completely ignored me, like I was nothing. She didn’t even spare me a glance as she spoke quietly to the guy. I don't know who the guy was but I hate him already. I wished I could burst his face right that moment but it'd only make Violet hate me. Well,if she doesn't already.

"Let’s get out of here” she said to him and he nodded.

Without another word, she turned and left with him, walking right past me as if I were invisible.

Classic Violet, fucking classic!

I watched them go, my fists clenching at my sides.I didn’t say a damn thing, but my chest burned with every step she took away from me.

Is she playing this card now?

Right. I went over the edge yesterday. But I didn’t expect her to react like this—shutting me out completely. She didn’t even wait for me before leaving for school this morning,And now, she’s letting some guy act all cutesy over her

I rubbed my temples slightly, trying to calm the frustration gnawing at me. I texted Jack to meet me at the gym. I needed to cool down the heat building inside of me before it over-steamed.

I left Jack with a lot of bruises today, and he wasn’t too thrilled about it. Not that I cared. He knew the drill when I was in one of my moods—stay out of my way, or be ready to take a beating. And today, I needed to hit something. Hard.

Once we were done,I felt completely better. The frustrations finally simmered down and my head was clear. No more thoughts about Violet, whatever emotions I felt were fleeting. Nothing worth holding onto.

I got home and tossed my keys on the counter, noticing immediately that Violet wasn’t back yet. Good. That gave me time to clean up and clear my head after everything that happened today.

I headed to my room, stripped out of my sweaty clothes, and stepped into the shower, letting the hot water wash away the rest of my tension.

Once I was done, I wrapped a towel around my waist and checked the time.

She should be home now. Figuring we'd need to get the project started,I had decided to meet her.

After changing into a fresh shirt and jeans, I took a deep breath, walked down the hallway, and knocked on her door. There was a brief pause before her voice called out

“Come in.”

I pushed the door open and found her seated at her desk, a notebook in her hand. Her back was stiff, and the moment our eyes met, she quickly looked away.

“Violet”I called as I took the empty seat beside her, and the usual scent of wildflower drew into my nose

“We should get the project started” I added, leaning back slightly in the chair.

Without looking up from her notes, she replied curtly, “Yeah.” She flipped through her notebook, pulled out a page, and handed it to me. “Here. I’ve jotted down some ideas.”

I took the notebook and scanned over her notes. She’d already outlined a rough draft for the plot. The project was a creative writing piece about a city where people mysteriously disappeared. Her ideas were sharp, well thought out, and detailed.

Inwardly, I couldn’t help but be impressed.

She's so fucking intelligent

“It's good” I muttered as I flipped through the pages. “I was thinking we could take it a step further. Maybe play up the eerie atmosphere, make it more psychological. Have the city itself feel like it’s alive—like something’s watching them, waiting to take them. We could also add some visual elements—like paintings—to really drive home the mood.”

She glanced up at me for a brief moment before nodding. “That could work,” she said, “We’ll need someone who can paint.”

“I can p—” I almost let it slip but caught myself. No one knew about my painting, and I intended to keep it that way. “Yeah, we’ll find someone. I’ll handle it.”

“Alright then,” she said, nodding again and I figured that was the end of the discussion. I watched her for a second longer, feeling like there was something more I should say probably a “sorry for yesterday” but my ego frowned at it.

So I nodded, stood up, turned, and left her room without another word.
