The movie night..

VIOLET

Weekends have never felt this long. With Ryan's constant presence around the house, the air felt heavy.

I did everything I could to avoid him but every time I went to the kitchen or passed by in the living room, I'd catch glimpses of him.He never said much, just watched, his gaze following him like a shadow.

I sighed and flopped down on the couch, staring at the ceiling. It was so quiet in the house, too quiet. The couple were still away which made the silence louder.

I heard footsteps and stiffened. I didn’t need to look to know it was him. The familiar scent, the heavy presence he carried into any room. Sure enough, he appeared before me, his eyes sweeping over me briefly before he sat down—on the same couch.

Damn, why is my heart racing so fast?

“Bored?” He asked in his usual baritone voice as he shrugged off his jacket and draped it over the back of the couch. His shirt hung on his broad shoulder revealing a sliver of his chest and collarbone. I never thought I could find collarbones so attractive.

“Yeah, kind of,” I replied casually

“Let’s watch a movie,” he suggested, completely out of the blue. I blinked at him, stunned. We hadn’t talked much in the past few days, and now he was casually offering to watch a movie? Together?

“S-Sure,” I stammered, my heart beating a little too fast for my liking.

A few minutes later, we were still arguing over what to watch.

“Too boring,” he grumbled at one suggestion.“Too cheesy,” he said to another.

“No way,” I yelled, “I hate horror movies, please not those!”

“That’s a kid’s movie, Mouse,” he shot down another option.

After what felt like forever, he finally caved and agreed to my choice.. I stifled a laugh at his expression when he saw the movie I was popping into the player

“Not a Jojo Moyes' fan?” I asked as I curled up on the couch while the credits played. It's funny how I still own DVDs, there was something so satisfying about holding your favorite movies rather than just streaming them.

“Nah,I don't have anything against her. I just hate romance” He grumbled as he adjusted on the couch, our legs slightly brushing.

Okay, there goes the flames burning my cheeks.

“Romance is

“Didn't he die in the end?

“You sure know how to watch movies” I grumbled with an eyeroll. “Have you seen it?”

“No but I've heard enough. A lot didn't shut up about it when it came out..”

“Movie is starting” I unconsciously put my hand over his mouth to keep him from talking further. His eyes met mine for a moment, his warm breath sizzling my palm and I quickly withdrew. Silence ensued between us as we focused on the movie.

I loved Me before You and snuck a glance at Ryan to catch a glimpse of reaction from him but none came..

Not during Will’s accident, not when he made the choice to end his life, not even during his farewell letter to Louisa.

“Why aren’t you crying?” I asked, sniffling as the credits rolled, using one hand to wipe away my tears.

“You’re crying?” He shot me a look of disbelief. “It’s just fiction.”

“I can’t help it,” I sniffled, unconsciously moving closer to him, pressing a hand against his chest

“Come here,” he said softly, pulling me into his arms. My blood roared in my ears as I collapsed against him.
He patted my head softly and the roaring became louder, water dripping underneath me. I've never felt this way over a guy before, never felt water dripping underneath me because of a guy and right now?

“It's just a movie huh?” Pink blossomed in my chest. I someone hated the way he talked and patted my head like I'm some child who couldn't tie a shoelace herself.

“It's okay, stop making it seem like I'm a child” I said as I pulled away from him

His nostril flared ”You're a child”

My anger edged out . “I'm not!”

A low chuckle slipped from his throat. “What's the next movie?” He angled his chin toward the DVD on the table. “You brought two movies. What’s the second one?”

Right..I had brought a comedy with me because I knew Me and You will definitely make my heart wrench and I'd need something lighter. My thighs clenched as I walked to the table, putting in Dumb and Dumber

I took my seat back, making sure I put a reasonable distance between us. A ocean might form beneath me if I sit anywhere closer. I casted a long sided glance towards him and notice his expression changing..into something more gleam

“No way you don't like this movie. It's a classic comedy”

A moment of silence came in before he finally said “This was me and my mom's favorite movie”He curtly said. “We watch it every new year”

My eyes softened and I regretted putting in the movie. My mom told me he lost his mother when he was still very young

“Don't worry, I'll just put in another” I said and moved to change it but he grabbed my arms making me land on his chest.

“It's just a movie,we should watch” he murmured, his eyes locking with mine. I was too close, my breath catching as I realized just how aware of him I w

“It’s dripping all over’”

My eyes widened in shock.

Oh no, did he really—did he feel that?

My heart pounded wildly in my chest, and embarrassment surged through me. He did not just..

I jerked away from him, utterly mortified.

“You... Y-You What—” I stammered,my mind racing with the thought of fleeing the room, hiding somewhere—anywhere—Ryan didn't exist.

I squeezed my eyes shut, hoping this moment could be erased, that somehow, this was all a dream. Then I heard it. Laughter. His laughter. Deep and throaty.

I slowly opened my eyes, my cheeks flushed red, and found him grinning like a devil. His eyes sparkled and his dimples made an unexpected appearance. It was breathtaking

“I was talking about the water,” he said, his laughter softening as he pointed toward the drink I had accidentally knocked over on the couch.

I blinked, my core still pulsing as I glanced down and noticed the spilled glass. Relief flooded me and my body finally started to relax.

He leaned back, still chuckling. “What did you think I was talking about?” he drawled

“I-I..” My mortification deepened and I realized I need to bury myself alive.

He only laughed again, a sound that made me peek through my fingers. His expression had shifted to something warmer, less mocking, and suddenly, it felt less like he was laughing at me and more like he was enjoying the moment with me.

As if coming to my rescue, the movie began, I settled back into my seat, careful to keep a bit of distance from him this time.

I barely paid attention as the movie played on but an hour later, my eyes became heavy and sleep called on me,I couldn't help but sneak another glance at him, wondering how someone could make me feel so flustered with just a look—or a laugh.
