CHAPTER THIRTY THREE

KELSEY'S POV

My heart skipped a beat.

"Did you say Marcus Devon?" I asked curiously.

Sasha gave me a puzzled look.

"Yes do you know him?"

I ignored her question and took the phone from her. And when I saw his pictures my eyes instantly watered.

Why...now.

After all these years why now?
All the memories and pain were going to haunt me all over again because I was the one who hurt him.
But yet I didn't have a choice, did that still make me the villain?

I only did what I did because I didn't want to hurt him and I was protecting him from my crazy absurd father.

A tear rolled down my cheek.
I was filled with regret, anger and resentment. I wish he had refused to believe my words but I know that deep down I broke him.
He trusted me and broke his trust and stabbed him in the back and used his weakness against him.

That explains why he looked so familiar because he was my Marcus.
The boy that used to drive me crazy and yet be the centre of my world.
My first kiss and boyfriend.
Dear god I even gave him my freaking virginity without knowing that it was him.

Does he know who I am?

Even if my father changed my appearance there was one thing that made Kelsey and I different and that was our eyes and hair.

I was a redhead while she was a blonde.
She had hazel eyes and I had green eyes but our faces were exactly the same.
I still can't believe that my boss was Marcus Devon, the broken boy I once knew as my ex-boyfriend.

The world is truly messed up in it's own way. People are totally right when they say that karma is a bitch.

Sasha placed her hand on my shoulder.

"Hey what's up wrong?" She asked in a worried tone. I guess my silence gave away.

The mere mention of him gave me butterflies and I felt a twisting sensation deep in my gut.
I still had feelings for him even after all these years.

"His childhood best friend at the same time we started dating. We practically grew up together…" I muttered sadly.

Sasha gasped in shock.

"What?"

I nodded quietly and slumped on the bed sadly. I've had enough excitement for one day.

Sasha sat beside me.

"What happened Kelsey?" She asked softly but I remained silent.

She squeezed my hand gently.

"You can always tell me anything I'm here for you."

"I know" I whispered softly and closed my eyes.

She slept beside me.

"It's that painful huh?" She asked.

I laughed.
A laugh that was filled with pain.

" You have no idea," I replied.
I sighed deeply.

"Kelsey isn't my real name."

Sasha sat upright.

"What?"

"Yes."

" My real name is Chelsea Evans. And Kelsey was my elder sister but surprisingly we looked exactly the same except she had blonde hair and hazel eyes while I was a redhead with green eyes."

I opened my eyes and stared at the ceiling.

Giggles filled the hot October as Kelsey and I played outside splashing water at each other to keep ourselves cool.

I miss her.

"She was raped at a house party. I guess she had too much to drink. The memory is always blurry."

" She called me crying and it tore me to pieces. She was so broken and she slowly changed. She spent her time in her room then one day she ended it all and killed herself."

" I'm so sorry."

" It's okay," I murmured.

" Ever since her death dad has always been obsessed with keeping me safe. He didn't want me to suffer the same fate as Kelsey did."

" Kelsey was my dad's favourite; she got grades and always came first in everything at school. And me well let's just say I wanted to be my own person."

" He wanted me to stay away from bad boys and rebels so we had to move to a small town to start afresh after Kelsey's death and that's where I met Marcus."

"I wanted to be friends with him but he rejected my friendship and called me a little girl. I wanted to prove him wrong so the next day I was learning at his school and got transferred to his class to prove my point."

Sasha laughed out loud.

" Sounds like you two were always on each other's throats."

She was right.

Marcus hated me guts and always avoided me but the day we shared my lunch that's when everything changed.

"You're right. He hated my guts but the day we ate lunch together his attitude changed and we became good friends."

" And we slowly started developing feelings for each other. I mean I used to sneak out of my window just to go see him and my dad was against our friendship.
He became my best friend and boyfriend. He meant everything to me."

" Why did you two separate if you were so in love?" Sasha asked curiously.

" I got a scholarship in Paris at the best fashion school. So I had to leave town and Marcus behind but we always communicated and promised each other that we would make it work. After he graduated from college he would come to Paris and we could be together."

" But sadly that never happened because my dad found out about our relationship and forced me to break up with him. Since Marcus was a few years older than me dad took advantage of that and wanted to accuse him for taking advantage of me."

Sasha gasped.

" He had evidence and the only way to save Marcus was to hurt so I broke up with him and hurt him."

" I still regret that day. And ever since then we haven't talked. And now I find out that he is my freaking boss and the guy I had a one night stand with. I guess it's too much to take in."

That's my history.

The next day I reported for work very early in the morning. And unfortunately my makeup didn't hide my puffy swollen eyes enough. Marcus took in my appearance with a puzzled look and later summoned me to his office.

I knocked on the door.

"Come in" he answered from inside and I opened the door. I avoided eye contact and took my seat.

"Kelsey what happened?" He asked curiously.

I cleared my throat nervously.

"I had a rough night sir" I said quietly.

He sighed deeply and remained silent.

I wanted to know why he wasn't telling me his true identity. This was my chance to ask him and find out the truth.

"Why didn't you tell me about your true identity Marcus?"

His eyes met mine intensely and his lips curved into a wicked smile.

He chuckled lightly.

Did he really find this funny?

"So why did you change your name?" He asked in a taunting tone.

I remained silent.

"Anyway Kelsey even if I told you about my real identity it wouldn't have muttered" he said coldly.

And I swallowed hard.

A pang of pain filled my chest. He didn't want to acknowledge our old friendship nor relationship.

I nodded miserably.

He hated me.

I forced a smile and met his eyes.

"Yes you're right it wouldn't have muttered."

I got up and left his office.

"Kelsey" he called but I never turned back.

A sob escaped my lips and tears rolled down my cheeks.
