Chapter forty two
MARCUS POV
This whole meeting was a damn scam there was no partnership this was just some cover up just to announce this contract marriage. I knew that Tara was many things but I didn't expect her to stoop this low just to get what she wants. I was so furious at first she messed with Kelsey and now she thinks that she can just ruin my life. Even if we would get married it would be a loveless marriage because I am not in love with Tara her purpose was to only fulfill my needs but that phase has passed and I'm not that kind of man anymore because Kelsey changed me.
TARA POV
I can't believe that Marcus walked out on me. I mean this is our party and we are supposed to celebrate our engagement.
Once dad was done talking to one of his business associates I decided to approach him.
"Father I'm so angry right now why didn't you stop Marcus from leaving?"
I was very pissed.
Father gave me a stern look and frowned at me.
"Tara I warned you about all of this lying to him won't make him love you. I can buy you anything you desire in this world but Tara you should know one thing no matter how much money you have you can't buy love."
I rolled my eyes.
" Father I don't need to be lectured right now if you really love me then you'll bring back Marcus and make him agree to the marriage contract."
" He can't break the contract unless I sign it myself if he dares to break it he'll have to face legal consequences that will ruin his reputation."
Father was shocked.
" Tara dear you don't possibly mean what you are saying I hate lying to Marcus because he seems like a good man now he knows that everything was just a lie."
He looked me in the eye.
" And I hate the way you treated that poor girl Kelsey. If you don't learn to control yourself I'm taking away all your cars, credit cards, you're going to lose all your luxurious things, let's see if you'll still have the same attitude" he said quietly and left.
I was shocked.
No, I wouldn't let him take away my money.
This was all because of that stupid girl Kelsey she was the root cause of the problem and I swear I'm going to make her life miserable.
I poured myself some champagne and giggled excitedly.
"Cheers to money and power."
Marcus was mine. And that Kelsey girl didn't stand a chance at all because she was nothing compared to me.
MARCUS POV
I got into my car and drove home. I couldn't stop thinking about Kelsey because she left with Max of all people. I've tried calling her multiple times but she won't pick up my calls.
I know I messed this is all my fault and I wish that I hadn't brought her to his dinner in the first place. Everything would have been alright.
An hour later I arrived home. The same loneliness welcomed me. The darkness engulfed me as I drowned in my sorrows.
I tried burying the darkness but it always resurfaced. The monster inside me was wild and untamed.
I went straight to my bedroom and started checking all the drawers looking for all the documents. I needed to confirm if what Tara was saying was in fact true.
After several minutes of searching I found it and immediately opened it. I began going through the papers.
And I couldn't believe what I found. How could I have missed this important point. Tara was right at the end of the document there was a contract marriage license for Tara and I.
After signing the document it was unbreakable the only person who could cancel the contract was Tara herself but she would never do that. So it meant that I was trapped in this horrible nightmare.
The wedding was going to take place in a few months if I refused to accept the conditions it would lead to legal consequences and I would lose everything I worked hard for.
My company…"
It took me so long to build it I wasn't going to give it up.
I'm sure that Tara and her father had planned everything they tricked me. And now I am bound by this damn contract.
They must have planned everything together with her cunning father.
And to think that he was a noble man I can't believe that I even looked up to him and considered him my role model.
Now the tables have turned and I'll be the one suffering despite my good intentions.
Shit I was screwed.
I opened the cabinet and took out a bottle of whisky. I needed something strong to cool my nerves and anger.
KELSEY POV
After the incident at the stairs Max had insisted on driving me home. I couldn't even talk because I was too shaken and frightened.
"Maybe we should visit the hospital just to make sure that you're fine Kelsey?" Max asked in a worried tone.
I shook my head negatively.
" No... I'll be fine, just take me home."
" Are you sure?" Max asked curiously.
I nodded.
I couldn't go to the hospital. Because Max would find out about my pregnancy and he was going to tell Marcus everything I couldn't let happen especially now because the circumstances had drastically changed.
Marcus was gone and I had lost him for good this time. Maybe it wasn't meant to be after all maybe I was better off alone.
An hour later Max had safely dropped me off at home but the nagging feeling inside me wouldn't go away.
Marcus Devon meant to be the father of my unborn baby but he's going to marry someone very soon.
This was a wake up call for me. I couldn't continue living in the past because our love story ended a long time ago.
A few tears rolled down my cheeks and to my surprise Max wiped away my tears.
His eyes met mine full of pity and sympathy.
"Kelsey you shouldn't waste your precious tears over someone who doesn't deserve you. Especially a clueless jerk like Marcus Devon" Max muttered coolly.
I nodded quietly.
He was right but a part of me didn't want to acknowledge the bitter truth. Marcus was going to be someone's husband and I was just going to be Marcus's baby mama.
I was just unlucky.
