Chapter 50 We don't know most times
Chapter fifty
Jones POV
"Hey!" Nancy screamed, waking me up from my slumber. I try to stabilize my breathing space before looking at her. Nancy is always annoying sometimes. Why the heck did she scream?
I look at her, "Is something wrong?"
She hisses and drops some clothes on the bed beside me, "You are going to get late, lady," she moves away to the shoe rack and comes back with a gold pair of stilettos. It's the shoe I got from her shop on Saturday.
I give her a skeptical look, "What the heck are you doing?"
"Getting you ready," she says with a smirk and walks out of the room.
It didn't click at first but after a while of thinking and staring at the clothes and shoes, I got what she meant.
What the fuck! It's Dave's birthday.
My eyes went to the wall clock and it's almost eleven
OMG! The traffic! Everything!
How do I do it? Gosh, why did I sleep for so long?
I didn't want to miss this party. I didn't realize it earlier but now, it's late right?
There's no way I will make it there on time.
I sigh, dejected. Now that it has happened, it hurts me so much to even realize I will miss something like this. And the fact that I miss Dave too.
Gosh, I must be going insane.
Gosh! This is so upsetting.
What should I do?
Nancy walks in again with a huge smile on her face. She throws my phone on the bed beside me, "Before you start crying, you might want to check the time," she says sarcastically.
I pick the phone and open it.
OMG! It's just thirty minutes after eight.
I look at Nancy and realize she's laughing so hard at my actions. I can't believe Nancy just pranked me.
I get off the bed and rush to get her. I'm going to beat this girl to a pulp. She screams playfully, "Please, lets get you dressed before you miss the party for real"
I was pulled to a sudden stop by her words.
She's right, I need to get dressed immediately.
I don't have the time for this childish play, I will come back for it.
I look up at Nancy, "I'm going to beat you when I'm back. Till I'm back darling, "I smile now as the prospect of meeting Dave suddenly gives me goosebumps.
Aside from that, I need to think of giving him a nice gift.
Dave POV
I have never celebrated my birthday in ages.
This is so funny. I don't believe I will be celebrating my birthday today.
Betty and Michael had already invited lots of important people and it's going to be a night party.
These two even go far with organizing how everything would be including the decorations, the food, and the program.
I'm staring at Betty and Michael right now and I still can't believe they did all these for me.
Betty smiles wildly now. It has been a while since I've seen her smile that way.
"You don't need to say anything Dave. This is what Friends do".
"Yes, it's what friends do, Lin," Michael chimes in.
I smile wildly and pull both of them into a bear hug. I feel so happy that I don't know what I should be doing.
I pull back after a while, "Today is the best day of my life and I'm grateful to you both for making it super great for me, "I say sincerely. I've never felt so different in my life.
All these years, all the hatred and grudges I've kept in me and those comforts I got from dad is nothing compared to the happiness I'm feeling right now.
"Come on, the party is going to start any moment from now," Betty announced and walked away probably to ensure things are going the way she wants.
I looked at Michael and we made a funny handshake," Whose idea is this seriously? I haven't celebrated my birthday in a while"
He smiles," You know Betty, it's her idea. But there's someone I want you to see."
"Who?"
"You will soon. Come on, go and change into something sexy. I don't want to look more handsome than the celebrant."
I laugh," You will never change Michael"
He laughs too," I won't, and I'm serious, for you".
I walk back inside my room. The party Venue is my spacious sitting room. So, it's still my house.
What should I wear? I have lots of clothes and I do order more every month that I barely finish wearing the old ones.
I don't know why I do it. I just needed to do all things to find the ones that would make my heart beat harder. Nothing ever did until I found Jones.
Jones is the only person that makes my heart beat faster.
I take a shower and cream my body. I stare at my chest in the mirror and I must admit that I have all that a lady can ever want; the face, the body, and the brain.
I decided on a new brand of designer clothes. I wear blue jean trousers and a white t-shirt. I put on a Cubana wristwatch and a white trainee.
I walk out of the room and realize the venue is getting crowded already. And the party has started. Music blares from every corner of the place. It feels so good, I must say again.
I walk closer to Mr. Robinson, he's a huge shareholder of the company, "Hi sir, thank you for showing up"
He smiles at me, "Happy birthday son, I wish you all the best"
I reciprocate his smile before moving to someone else. It amazes me to see lots of well-wishers here.
Permit me to repeat this, today Is the best one for me.
Just when I was done going around and greeting people for showing up, I was called for a short speech.
I smile wildly as I move to the center of the room.
