Chapter 57 Everything is perfect

Chapter fifty-seven
Jones
I walk inside my office and drop my bag on the table. I walk back to Michael's office and knock softly.
"Come in," he says and I gently open the door.
The first person I see is Betty.
"Jones!" She exclaims softly.
I smile too, "How have you been?" I say and move nearer to her. Then look up at Michael, "Good morning sir."
Michael smiles and stands, "Good morning. I should leave you, girls, to your business. I have something to attend to," he says and walks out.
I look back at Betty, at the happiness on her face. She looks so beautiful now. Guess happiness can make one look better and less pale.
"Come and sit," Betty beckons me over and pat the place beside her.
I walk to her and sit, "How is everything?"
"Fine. We are planning the beach party already and I've gotten some clothes," she says and before I could say anything, stretched to her left side and brought back a huge bag. She opens it and brings out two pairs of red gowns.
She drops one on my lap and stretches the other wider for me to see. It's a short sleeve dress, it's short and pretty.
"Do you like it? We should probably put it on."
I nod severally as an idea hit me, " How about I come over to your place tonight and let us try it on?"
She smiles widely as the idea settles in, " Great, I will text you the address."
The telephone rings suddenly and Becky stands to answer it. She picks it, "What! Dave?"
I look up at her at the mention of that familiar guy. I've been missing him. I wonder why he hasn't called me.
"Let him in immediately," Becky dropped the call and looked at me, "Your boyfriend is on his way here."
The sounds of it make me blush.
It wasn't up to a minute when a loud knock came on the door.
"Yes, come in," Becky says and the door opens.
" Hi Becky," Dave said, and smiled. The smile was enough to brighten up the whole town. He looks better this morning.
Becky moved closer and hugged him slightly, "I heard you already found us at the beach."
"Yes. I and Jones are choosing what to wear."
Dave looks at me now and smiles, " No hug?"
I smile shyly and walk to her. I pull myself at him.
When I was about to pull away, he held me still.
Becky giggles and I struggle to free myself again.
Dave let me go reluctantly. He looks at Becky, "Where's Michael?"
"He's out. I didn't bother asking him where he was going," Becky replied and picked up her phone.
Dave holds my hand and starts to lead me out of the office.
"What are you doing?"
"We are going out," he replied casually. He's not even bothered.
"But I'm at work," I try to remind him.
He shrugs slightly, "I'm very much aware of that."
I laugh and try to stop him, "No, I don't have the luxury of doing this at work."
"Will you come back to Tianshi then?"
The idea sounds ok. I will be able to see Dave regularly and I won't have to worry about other girls. But what will leaving Michael be? I've just started working with him.
Well, I need to tell Dave something so I can get him to let me be.
"Will you leave now if I come back?"
He smiles now," If you can promise me, then I will leave this moment".
Dave is still very stubborn and he's always having his ways around things.
"Fine! I promise, " I tell him, forcefully. Anything to make him go now and stop making everyone see me as a fool.
He nods once, then tilts his head in and kisses my forehead, "Bye pretty," he says and starts walking away.
I have a deep breath. Gosh, having Dave as a boyfriend is more stressful than having him as an enemy.
I spend almost half of my day thinking about how to confess to Michael. I don't know how Michael would take it but it's the only way to stop Dave.
I know Dave is always obstinate, very unbending.
It's six in the afternoon and I'm close for the day. I arrange my stuff in my bag and stand to walk but hit Michael.
"Hi Jones," he smiled at me like a kid caught stealing candies.
I smile nervously too, regaining the shock I had felt earlier, "Hi boss".
He laughs now, a short and deep one, "You know you can always call me Michael".
I smile now and nod severally, "Maybe after work."
Then I thought about it, perhaps it's the best time to tell him or maybe not.
"Where's Becky?"
"She went ahead. She wanted to make me dinner but she's always getting it wrong".
I laugh at it, " Give her chances to make it right".
He held his hands in akimbo, " That was what I was planning to do."
We stare for a while in the silence.
" Well, Dave told me something. He wants you to come back to Tianshi and you've agreed to".
I sigh, " I was planning on telling you. I know it sounds weird but if I don't do that, Dave will keep coming during the office hours."
Michael laughs again, " I know. I was just expecting him and you to conclude. You are free to go to his office starting tomorrow."
I smile wholeheartedly. I don't know why but I feel so much happiness within. Then I remember I won't be seeing Michael for a while.
"Come on, we will always get to see each other. And besides, I can always come to Tianshi if I feel like seeing you. I just won't make it like how Dave does."
We laugh at the statement. It feels good like this. The pieces were perfectly fixed. I'm with Dave while he's with Betty.
My life is getting better.
And my wish is coming true.
