Chapter fifty-nine
Jones
"Something must definitely be going on between the boss and Jones. Why will he sack Kim because of Jones?" A soft voice asks.
" Yes, exactly. Something is wrong somewhere," another voice adds.
It's like these people are intentionally talking in front of my office so I would hear them complain about me.
I let them walk by before going out to get the file I will work on from Dave.
I knock on the door slightly.
"Yes, come in," he says and I open the door and walk-in.
He looks up at me and smiles, "You know that you don't sincerely need to knock?"
I shrug slightly and move nearer, " This is business. So, I must."
He laughs, "Why are you here by the way?"
"I need to start working. So, I'm here for anything I should be working on."
He inclines his head to the side and studies me, " There's no file for you to work on. The secretary will do that for you."
I shake my head negatively, " I have to work too. I'm your assistant."
"Yes, you are. I didn't say otherwise and I choose what my assistant will do."
" No Dave, don't start this. I'm here to work. And besides, you've sacked Kim. Who's going to work for you?"
Dave laughs briefly, " Have you forgotten where this is? This is Tianshi. I have lots of aspirants. See," he stretches out some papers to me.
I take it and peruse it. I look back at Dave with surprise written all over. He's having an interview soon with ten aspirants already.
Tianshi is awesome.
"But I still have to work."
Dave's eyes thin as he watches me. Then he sits up, "If you desperately want to work. Then I will put you up to the task you can do better."
I smile now, " Yes, so," I say expecting him to drop the files before me.
I walk out of Tianshi angrily. I stop for a moment and look back again. How can Dave ask me to go and make lunch for him?
I'm supposed to be working for him, not making fancy food.
Gosh, I'm not his chef.
Dave can still be annoying sometimes. I walk to his Venza and hop in before Steven would come to open the door for me. I don't know who told him to always open the door for me.
I'm so angry at Dave right now.
My phone rings suddenly and I look at the screen. It's mom.
I pick up immediately, "Hi Mom," then I remember Dave telling me he spoke with mom yesterday.
I still don't believe mom came home and the first person she met with was Dave. Was she that close with his mom?
"Where are you?"
"I'm on my way to Dave's house. I want to make lunch".
" Lunch? It's just eleven."
I sigh, " Well, it will be twelve soon. Mom, how can you be in town and you didn't come to see me first? What about Sam?"
Mom laughs, " Well, I have a piece of good news for you. Sam is also here with me."
What! I scream in joy. Gosh, I've really missed him so much. But why will he be here? What about his school? There's no way he would be offered admission here again.
"And the good news is that the school called me and Sam back. I've been promoted and my salary is double the one I received before."
What! I couldn't contain the joy in my heart. I feel so happy.
"And this is all thanks to Dave Margray. Sam is very much happy now. He's going to see his old friends again."
I nod briefly. I have forgotten Dave is my boyfriend. Every mess started with him, he should be the one to take it away.
"I need to cook for Dave. So, can I pick you up? You and Sam? Then we can gist more in Dave's house?"
" Yes, we will do that!" Sam screams from somewhere around.
What the fuck!
" Was the phone on speaker?"
Mom laughs again, "He insisted we do that. Should we get ready Sam, "she says.
" Of course," Sam whooped in delight again and the line went off.
I smile and turn to Steven, "We are going to my house now."
"Yes madam," he said and made a U-turn.
I should call Nancy and tell her that mom and Sam are back because I might not remember to anymore.
I dial Nancy's line immediately.
She didn't pick up and I redial.
She picks up after the third ring. I wonder where she kept her phone.
"Hi dear," she says on the phone but it seems like she's attending to someone on the other side too.
"Where was your phone?"
"Sorry, I had lots of customers to attend to. Do you you prefer I call you back?"
" Not really, I will just tell you the good news quickly. Sam and mom are back home."
"What the fuck!" Nancy says happily, " But what about school and mom's work?"
"Dave has settled it all. Even mom's salary has been doubled."
" Oh My God, I'm so happy for them. Thanks for telling me on time. I will need to get something for them in my store."
I laugh. I know Nancy will. She's the best.
