+CHAPTER 22+ The Broken Queen
Darach's words were like a slap on Amber's soul.
Amber's heart shattered. . .
It was like some invisible fist was punching her in the gut.
Darach regretted marking her. Her own mate regretted claiming her, he detested Amber.
She was standing there listening to her mate's every word.
She didn't know what to believe anymore. Everything was in front of her but a small part of her still has faith in her mate who had looked into her eyes with sincerity while telling her that he wanted to be her save place. A place where she can hide from all her worries.
But he forgot to tell her where she needed to hide if he turned his back on her.
Darach's words of affection, his empty promises of never leaving her side, his false claim of never hurting Amber, his sweet talks about a happily ever after with her were ringing in her mind like a broken record.
Amber had tried everything to make this work between her and Darach but now her biggest fear was coming true.
She had fallen for Darach while he didn't love her back. . .
In a haze the Cold Queen walked towards the exit of the healing center, not knowing where she was going with the weight of betrayal, humiliation, and misery on her shoulders.
So stupid! Amber was so stupid to trust him.
A crazed laugh escaped from her trembling lips. Her gaze turned blurry with unshed tears.
Centuries ago Amber's own mother didn't want her and she stupidly thought that her mate will want her, he will cherish her.
Maybe she was asking for too much. . .
But then again, she hadn't asked for a lot of things from Darach. She just wanted to hold his hand while strolling in her territory.
A small part of her wanted to show him off to her parents and proudly tell them that she had made a family for herself. And now she didn't want them just like they didn't want her back then but little did she know that her mate will abandon her too.
After listening to her mate's confession now she thought that maybe it was too much to wish from her life. Maybe love and affection weren't meant for everyone, maybe acceptance wasn't meant for everyone.
All her life Amber has longed for acceptance, acceptance from her parents who shunned her and now she was longing for her mate's acceptance.
Why is it so hard for all of them to accept her? Amber has accepted hundreds of species in her Queendom without blinking an eye so why the fuck was it so difficult for others to accept her?
Amber looked towards her hands. She had an ability to destroy mountains, she can create life from barren land, she has the guts to challenge legends and the power to hand them their asses but at this moment when she looked towards her hands, they were empty. Just like her heart.
Amber felt alone in this crowded world.
The emptiness and loneliness from before were surrounding her again. Amber let out an agonizing scream, not giving a damn about who was witnessing her broken heart's wails.
Amber didn't ask for jewels or money or for anything else form Darach. She was ready to give him anything he wanted. But he had to be an A-one asshole and break her heart.
Hope! It was an awful thing to have. Amber never hoped for a mate but the Goddess of Nature planted this poisonous seed of hope in her heart. And now when in return of all her hope and efforts the lycan king was giving her a position of his breeding whore it bloody hurts.
Why would it hurt so much. . .
Amber was too stupid to think that someone will love her. From the beginning, she had no chance at this mate thing but Amber had believed the Goddess of Nature. The Goddess had made her believed in love.
For the first time in Amber's life, the Goddess was wrong about something.
She had told Amber to be the one who takes the first step, look where did it get her. She had accepted Darach with all his flaws.
She had ignored the fact that he was a lycan, she had ignored Rebecca's warnings. She had taken down all her walls, she had given her heart to the beast. Only for the beast to break her fragile heart.
Another scream tore from Amber's wailing heart. She had collected thrones while thinking that she was collecting roses. And now those thrones have left her hands and heart blooded.
She had suffered from pain before but this time it was different not because she fell for the wrong person because she was exhausted. She was tired of being the one who always suffered from expecting the same kind of love from people that she gave them.
Falling on her knees, Amber's shoulders curved inward due to the pain she was experiencing. She was gasping for air, it seemed like her lungs had forgotten the simple task of breathing.
Small hands touched her curved shoulders. Amber looked up, Jimmy was standing there with watery eyes. He pulled Amber in a hug but Amber pushed him away.
"Go home, Jimmy!" Amber sneered at him like a wild wounded cat.
The venom in her voice was enough to send him running away from her.
Amber looked at his retreating form. She felt like shit for taking her anger out on the kid.
She felt worthless~
Darach made her feel that way.
Her heart constricted inside the cage of her chest. . .
She felt like lost souls who had no flesh, no brain but they still were in pain.
Tears fell from Amber's eyes, her tears were flowing from her heart and covering her soul.
She felt like tearing apart everything that surrounds her. . .
The full moon was shining in the sky. Amber looked towards the moon with hatred, pain, disgust, loathing, misery. . .
She can feel the Moon smiling down at her, relishing in her pain.
Another agonizing sob escaped from her, she wanted to curse the Moon for her misery.
She didn't ask for a mate, she didn't ask for this agony, she didn't...
Amber's people witnessed their Cold Queen crumbling to the ground, showing emotions for the first time in her life. They had waited centuries for this moment, to just see a small sincere emotion on her face and now when she was showing emotions they wished for her to turn back into the Old Cold Queen.
Her wailing screams were clawing at their hearts. For centuries she had protected them from the outside world, from the demons that were chasing them and now she looked so tired, broken and fragile.
They watched their Queen falling on her knees in front of everyone, banging her fists on the ground, shaking the ground with the force of her blows, almost splitting the ground into halves, Crying. . . Crying like a little girl who was tired of always being strong. . .
Rebecca looked at Amber with sorrow. Amber was singing the song of pain.
The same song that Rebecca had herself written the lyrics of~
Rebecca kneeled in front of Amber's kneeling form. When she touched her shoulder, Amber looked up from the ground. Her eyes looked like flames and water dancing in one frame.
"Tell me this pain will fade. . . Please..." Amber held Rebecca's hands in her trembling ones. "Tell me anything to make this pain go away Rebecca. I can do anything to just end this agony." The self-made Queen begged.
Tears fell from Rebecca's own eyes. What was she supposed to tell Amber? That the pain won't ever fade but she will learn to live with this pain just like Rebecca had learned to survive with the continuous ache in her heart?
"What if I claw this heart out? Will my feelings go away with this heart?" Amber was blabbering. It seemed like she was talking to herself, not asking for suggestions from Rebecca.
"I can definitely regenerate a new heart and when I'll get my new heart I won't let that bastard sink his dirty claws in my new one. I will throw his arse out of here at the mercy of the monsters of the myth that resides in the snow along with his bitchy sister and bastard brother." Amber was chanting like a crazed woman. Her eyes were wild and soulless.
The lycans have successfully broken another strong woman.
Rebecca looked at her broken friend and then to the moon. It wasn't supposed to end like this for Amber.
She wasn't supposed to end up with a broken heart like Rebecca. . .
"Amber stand up, you're not thinking straight." Rebecca pleaded.
"Why do you want me to think straight!! I'm so tired of being the one who always thinks straight. Can't he see what he has done to me! Can't they all see what they had done to me?" Amber screamed while looking at the Moon. It seemed like she wasn't even talking to Rebecca anymore.
"I'm so sick of carrying these scars while the one who gave them to me are living their lives happily." Amber sobbed.
"I'm exhausted from being the one who has to act strong every fucking time." Another heart-wrenching sob.
Everyone watched their Cold Queen crumbling to the ground, crying her heart out with tears in their own eyes and millions of questions running through their minds.
Will this be the end of the Cold Queen or the birth of something evil?
