Refusing Her Offer
POV: Selina
“I thought you would take the day off after such a terrible accident this morning. I was just helping you review the new designs from the interns. I wanted to make up for the way I responded to you this morning.” She told me calmly, faking a smile. I walked up to her and picked up the file from her table without saying a word to her. I opened the first and second page, viewing the first and second design in the file to see her revive on them. But there was no review on any of them.
I was right after all, she wasn’t doing me a favor, she was try to sell these designs and I just walked in on her and ruined her plans before she could conclude her deal with the guy on the other end of the line. I noticed some of the designs on her thighs and I presumed these are the ones she was about to sell before I walked in on her.
“There are no reviews on these designs, Mrs Wilson. Or did you only review the designs you have on your thighs?” I asked her, feigning laughter.
“Oh, these?
I have no idea how they got there.” She lied, acting surprised to see some of the design hidden away.
“I haven’t commenced with the review yet, I was just about to begin before you arrived. Well, now that you are here, you can take them and leave,” she told me, emphasizing on the last part. I grabbed the designs from her angrily and turned to leave, but I couldn’t leave without speaking my mind.
“You know, just because I’m new here doesn’t mean I’m stupid. And just because you helped me get this job does not mean I have to cover up for you. I heard your conversation with Mr Moore, or whatever his name is. You were going to sell these designs to him and you even lied that the designs were yours. What kind of a sick, delusional person are you?
You think the company will never find out that there was a leak from within?
You knew they will find out didn’t you?
You planned to pin it on me, didn’t you?
You know it’s my job to review the designs and you planned to make me look stupid and incompetent before the board of directors. How could you?” I asked angrily, my gaze fixed on hers, daring her to lie to my face one more time.
“How long have you been doing this to the company, are you the reason this company is currently engaged in a legal battle with other jewelry designers?” I asked her in shock as reality suddenly dawned on me. She has been wrecking Felix company for many year, stealing from him. She is the reason his company’s new designs are everywhere.
Sometimes the company faces backlash after they launch a new design that is already in the market. No one knows why such a reputable company would need to steal designs from other smaller companies. But now I know why, it’s because we have a traitor in our midst, a fucking saboteur. She looked at me as if I suddenly grew two horns on my head. She leaned on her seat, acting bossy and cool.
“You have such overactive imaginations, Selina. How did you come up with such ideas?
You know what I think?
I think you are in the wrong profession. With this brain of yours, you could be the next best selling author Times Magazine. How can you presume such evil about me, how could you think I could betray a company I’ve worked for all my life. That is absurd, I just cat believe you would say these things about me. I helped you get this job, didn’t?” she stressed.
“You still aren’t willing to admit the truth after being caught?” I asked in surprise.
“I have no idea what you are talking about.” She kept lying.
“Fine, I’ll ask Mr Yeats then. His office is just opposite mine, anyway, it’ll be too easy to get to him. I’ll just tell him everything I heard, maybe he’ll believe you more than I do because you are like a mother to him after all.” I let out slowly while walking towards the door with the file in my hand.
“Wait!” she called out to me before I got to the door. She picked up her cell phone and dialed a number on it. I’m guessing it’s someone in the control room because she demanded that they turn off the camera in her office and they obliged her. They turned it off immediately, then she tuned to me with a stern gaze that looks like more like anger than regret.
“You can’t do this, Selina, You can’t tell anyone this. If this gets out, my career will be ruined, my life will be ruined and do will Simons. If you care about him, if you don’t want to destroy his future, then you must keep your mouth shut and take our side.” She let out fiercely. As she spoke, she stood up from her seat and walked towards me, causing me to move back until my back touched the wall.
“Work with me, Selina, and you will be a millionaire in a few months. I’ll make you famous and popular, your designs will be seen all over the world. You will be as rich and influential as I am. And after we get enough money and designs, we would come together, you and I, and we will launch our own unique brand. We will host a fabulous banquet to showcase our designs and that would surpass everything FY Glams has in their showroom.
By then, this company will be on the brink of foreclosure, no one will ever suspect us for it’s downfall. We will be seen as two wonderful designers that kept souring higher after the collapse of such a great company. I don’t want you as an enemy, Selina. Join me now and take your place by my side.” She let out coaxingly. I looked at her and wondered how she got this way, why would she want to destroys this company just for her selfish interest. It’s just so wrong.
“The only reason I will not report this incident to the CEO is because of your son, Simon. He is a good man, he doesn’t deserve the humiliation this will bring to him and your entire family. If you want my advice, Mrs Wilson, I suggest you quit this job if you fell its not worth it. Most people still value this company and the values it stands for. Destroying it Is out of the question, ma’am, I wont allow it.” Í stated firmly.
“So, are you turning down my offer, are you saying you are not interested?” she asked angrily, trying to intimidate me. I didn’t survive an elevator accident to come and be bullied by a woman that us both greedy and arrogant. I stared back at her, giving her the same energy she’s dishing out to me,
“I’m saying, the next time you steal these design or any other designs that are supposed to be under my care, I’ll not let you off easily. I’ll take it upon myself to involve our bosses and get you investigated. That is a promise.” I told her sternly before walking out of her office. I heaved a sigh of relief after I left that horrible woman’s face. I hope she doesn’t take my advice as an insult, I hope she stops her evil plots before it is too late.
