Taken To The Hospital

POV: Selina
“H… H… How did you know I fell in the bathroom, I never said that to anyone, Martin. How did you know?” I asked in shock, my hands shaking in fear as I realized that he’s also wearing a blue jean and boots like my attacker. I looked around me and almost all the guys around me had the same kind of boots and jeans too.
I couldn’t take it anymore, my heart was beating faster and my entire body was shaking vigorously. The stalker could be Martin, it could be Felix, it could be any of these guys around me. I don’t know who it is or why he would want to hurt me and that hurts so bad.
I thought I will be fine, but hearing Martin and realizing that the stalker might be Martin has left my emotions complex and uneasy. I’m feeling as if I have been drawn into an even deeper voids. Everyone suddenly looks suspicious to me, I had to hold my head as it hurts so bad.
“You must have said it while you were telling your story, I mean, how else would I know?” he asked jokingly, making everyone nod and chuckle at my silly question. They were looking at me as I am crazy, I couldn’t look at their faces, not even Martins. I’d practically accused him falsely and that didn’t feel good at all.
“You look sick, Lina, are you okay?” he asked in concern, stretching his hand to touch me. I panicked when he touched me and that startled Amara and everyone in the cafeteria. I didn’t know I was dizzy until I almost fell to the floor. Luckily, my best friend was sitting right next to me and she pulled me into her arms and hugged me tightly.
“You look terrible, Lina. Are you feeling okay?
No, scratch that. You don’t even need to answer me, I can tell you are not feeling okay. Come on, get on your feet, we are going to the med bay to talk to someone about your symptoms. Who knows, maybe they’ll have a solution to your unusual behavior,” she told me when she noticed my discomfort. She was suggesting a visit to the school infirmary, but I decided to go to the hospital where everyone that works at FY Glams go to.
It’s part of the benefits of working here, I decided to use it instead of using the school infirmary. I handed Amara the card and the car keys. She helped me to the car before getting on the drivers side and driving me to the hospital. I met the doctor, Dr. George and he was do nice to me. He ran a series of tests after hearing my symptoms and he gave his diagnosis.
So try first time I was in his office, he said it’s just my head that’s messing with me. I was diagnosed with just a cold and he was going to get me drugs for my cold. He made it clear to me that it was too soon for me to resume work after such a terrible incident.
I explained to him that it’s a new job and I needed to be there. I told him I’ll take time to rest soon and he offered to write me a note to my supervisor suggesting I take a few says to get over my fears and put it behind me. We talked for a few minutes and he said I just needed to take my cold drugs for my cold and then take a few days to rest. I was glad to hear him diagnose me with just a cold, I actually thought I was losing my mind.
Amara and I went to the waiting room to wait for our drugs. We waited for a few minutes and when we thought he would come out and hand me my drugs, he came up with a new diagnosis for me. Instead of an ordinary cold, he said I had a panic attack.
Yeah, you heard me right. He said I had Anxiety attack and a severe cold that brought goosebumps all over my body. I didn’t believe I could suddenly develop an anxiety attack just one day after an attack. He had to take his time to break it down to my understanding, telling me how my body is reacting to the near death experience I just had.
“I’m sorry I made a mistake in my earlier diagnosis, I could have waited for the test results before concluding that it was an ordinary cold. The test results are all out, Miss Selina. And yes, you have Anxiety attack, or you can choose to call it a panic attack if you want.
You see, these attacks comes like brief episode of intense anxiety, which causes the physical sensations of fear. These can include a racing heartbeat, shortness of breath, dizziness, trembling and muscle tension. Panic attacks occur frequently and unexpectedly and they are often not related to any external threat.
But you need to identify the cause and get it treated immediately, you need to manage it right now and commence on treatment before it gets out of control. In your case, I think the cause of your panic attack is the incident that you went through last night. You got a glimpse of your attacker and it’s like a trigger to your panic episodes. I’m going to prescribe some medication for…”
“I think you are terribly mistaken. I don’t have any of those severe symptoms you just mentioned. I just panicked because of the people around me wearing the same outfit my attacker was wearing. It’s not that serious, really, it’s just…”
“It’s an anxiety attack, Miss Selina. What you experienced is what is referred to as anxiety hangover. You need to beware of your symptoms so you don’t experience these hangovers often. The common symptoms of a panic attack hangover may include profound fatigue, brain fog, and a persistent sense of discomfort or unease. These after-effects can vary in duration, often lasting several hours to a few days, affecting your daily activities and overall. You will need a break from work and a close relative to watch you closely and make sure you take your treatment seriously.” He advised me.
“B…Bu… But, I don’t have anyone, I only have Amara and she can’t abandon her work to take care of me until I recover. Wait, she is staying with me already, does that count?” I asked him.
“No, it doesn’t. You will be placed on Medication and therapy. I will prescribe some medication for you and it has to be taken as prescribed by me. You need someone you can depend on, someone that truly cares about you. Like a sister, a mother, or let’s say, a boyfriend. Do you have a boyfriend, Miss Selina?” he asked me. I shook my head to the sides, trying to hold back the tears.
“No, Dr George. I don’t have anyone, I’ve lost both parents and I only have Amara as a friend.” I told him sadly. Just as the words left my mouth, there was a loud crash coming from the bathroom. I could swear that I heard someone cursing angrily when that noise distracted us from our meeting. I felt startled by the noise, but Dr George seems unbothered by the crash.
I urged Dr George to check out what it was, but he laughed it off and said it was just a wooden cabinet that had been destroyed by water. He asked me not to be bothered by any noise coming from the restroom and I listened to him. He didn’t waste any more time with questions, he handed me my drugs with the prescription. He gave me a number to call a therapist before sending us away in a hurry.
He seems to be distracted by something or maybe he was just trying to get us out of the way so he could attend to another patient. I did notice the long queue in the waiting room. I received the drugs from him and read the prescription written on it. It seems strange that he wanted me to take one particular drug every night before going to bed.
I would have asked him about it, but u just assumed that he prescribed them to help me sleep better. This is going to help with my nightmares and sleepless nights. I smiled and thanked him, I picked up the drugs and went to the waiting room to meet up with Amara and she helped me back into the car and drove me back home.
Although doctor George had said I was just hallucinating, I couldn’t help thinking deeply about Martins questions the cafeteria. He claimed my head is just messing with me, but I don’t think that is the case here. I suspect Martin might be involved in the previous night's incident. I have this strong feeling that be is somehow related to my attacker. If only I can prove it, if only I have direct evidence to support my suspicions.
