Burglar Breaking In
POV: Selina
I was awoken by a strange sound. Amara decided to spend the night at her mans house, so I’m all alone in the house. Someone is attempting to crack my front door lock. I’ve heard the clicking sound a few times and I’m filled with extreme fear. I shivered in fear as I lay on my bed. With fear in my heart, I got out of bed and stayed huddled by the bedside table, hiding behind the curtains.
“Wait, why am I hiding when I should be calling for help?” I asked within me. I ran to the other side of the room as I got my phone and called Amara immediately,
“Help, Ama!
Help!
Call the cops, someone is breaking into the house, I’m in my bedroom, call the cops!” I yelled into my phone. She wanted to ask many questions, but I hung up immediately and called the cops myself. I told them about the intruder and they asked me to go into a safe space and shut the door firmly.
I made sure they knew that he is desperately pushing at my door from outside trying to crack it open. After giving my address and house number, I hung up and went to lock my room door. I dragged the two sitter couch that is in the room and I used it to block the door from opening easily. Then I ran into my bathroom, shutting the door so fast that I thought I would break the keys.
I sat huddled on the bathroom tiles, thinking of a way out of this situation. Who would want to hurt me, and why?
What did I ever do?
Simon?
Could it be Simon?
I picked up my phone and called him the moment his name popped up in my head. It’s got to be him or his mother. They are the only two people I could think of that wants to hurt me. I dialed his number in anger and I waited impatiently for him to pick my call,
“I told you I would stay out of your mothers business. I spent the whole day with Felix, but I never said a word about what I know to him. I haven’t done anything to insinuate that I won’t keep to my end of the bargain. Why then are you people trying to kill me, who is this fool you sent to break into my house?!” I yelled angrily.
“Someone is trying to break into your house?
You have to leave there, Selina!
Go through the back doo, or even go through a window if necessary. Get out of there before you get hurt. My mom and I may be a little bit shady in the way we run the business, but trust me, Selina, we are nothing like that. We are not monster or murderers. We don’t scare people away, and we certainly do not patronize hitmen. Get out of there, save yourself!” he urged me urgently and ended the call. I got a text from him a few minutes later,
“I’ve alerted the cops, they are on their way.” He notified me. I couldn’t help but feel ashamed of myself for accusing him and his mom falsely. I peeked out the toilet window, I thought the cops would have arrived by now. I guess they need someone important to get involved before they can make my case a priority.
It was at this moment that it dawned on me that I now have a boyfriend and he is an influential person, the king of person that the cops give top priority. I called him immediately, my voice filled with fear and uncertainty,
“Call the cops, Felix. Someone is breaking into the house.” I told him urgently. He did not sound surprised or furious, he was calm, too fucking calm. It felt as if he already knows what is going on before I called him.
“Remain where you are, I’ll be right there.” He instructed firmly, making me wonder what he plans to do if he does get here on time. Is he planning to stop a bugler, does he want to get himself killed?
I kept praying for the cops to get here before he finds me. I heard him trying to push the door to my bedroom open and my heart skipped a beat. He pushed and pushed really hard, and after the third hard push, the door gave way and I heard the sound of his boot clinking on the tiles as he walked into my room.
“How long do you intend to keep hiding, how long do you think it would take me to break down this door and get you?” he asked in a mocking tone. He did not stop packing the room, every step he took made my heart jump. I could imagine him kicking the door open and grabbing my neck to snuff the life out of me.
“I’ve called the cops and they are on their way. You better leave now before the cops arrive.” I told him, my voice sounding so weak. He chuckled at my warning, and I thought his chuckle sounded familiar. I tiptoed to the door and peeked throw the keyhole. I saw him standing outside the bathroom door.
I saw his jeans and shoes, but I couldn’t see his face. He’s standing too close to the door, that’s why I couldn’t see his face clearly. I wanted to try another angle to see if I could see his face, but he hit the door hard with his fist, causing me to panic and move backwards. He would have hit the four one more time, but then we heard the sound of the siren from afar and I smiled excitedly,
“Here comes the cops, ”I let out with a smile, warning him for the very last time to leave me alone.
“You got away this time, My Lina. But you won’t get off so easily the next time.” he threatened furiously. There was silence in the room after he said that. I peeked once more, but I couldn’t see his shoes and jeans anymore.
Although I could see or hear him anymore, I still refused to step out of this bathroom until the cops get here. I could have their sirens drawing closer. I found myself sobbing in relief when they finally got here and helped me get out of the bathroom. I couldn’t believe that someone would try to hurt me, I felt do scared to my bones.
The cops helped me out of the bathroom and they called a medic to check my blood pressure and heart rate. While the medic attended to me, the other officers did the usual police workaround my house. They had my door fixed while looking for evidence that could lead to my attacked.
After several hours, they discovered that the fingerprints on the lock had been wiped clean. He left no prints and no evidence to lead back to him. He was very careful, this must not be his first time. The cops came back to me and interrogated me about him. They wanted me to describe anything I might have seen or heard. And they made me retell my story again from the beginning.
I was unable to provide detailed information about the intruder, all I saw was a pair of black boots and blue jeans. That was not helpful at all, the cops had nothing to work with. But I was assured that they would further investigate the surveillance footage in the vicinity to search for clues that they must have missed.
I nodded in understanding, and just as the cops turned to walk into his car and drive off, someone drove into my driveway. I turned in the direction of the approaching vehicle and I spotted Felix coming down from his car. He looked worried as he approached me. But I wasn’t concerned about his looks. I was looking at the blue jeans and black boots he is wearing.
