Chapter 31
After the game we rode the rollercoaster twice. We then went in to the haunted house. I was unstoppable at the competition earlier but in the haunted house, I definitely needed some protection as to the fact that it was filled with bloody monsters and screaming clowns. After the haunted house we went to grab something to eat. But instead of any fancy restaurant, we had some street food.
After a long meal we ended with spiced hot-dog and picked a spot with a beautiful view of the city. After we finished our hot-dog’ we sat in silence for a while.
“So are you all cheered up?” Shawn asked.
“What do you mean?” I replied with a question.
“You’ve been a little down lately.” I gave no answer. He continued “I know I should have asked you this a while ago but is everything ok?”
“Umm…. It’s just this and that…. with family….. With work….” I answered hesitantly.
“What happened with your family?” he asked.
“Umm…. My dad…. I think my dad might be… He might be cheating…. on my mom.” I finished the sentence and spoke out that my dad had an affair.
“Are you sure?” he asked. I stayed silent and looked away by the disgust of me admitting that my dad had an affair.
“Have you talked to him?” he asked after a long silence again. Instead of using words I shook my head to let him know that I didn’t.
“Have you told your mom?” I once again shook my head to let him know that I didn’t.
“Well” he said “As someone who has went through that, I don’t advice you to keep it all to yourself.”
“What do you mean?” I asked him.
“I am telling you to let it all out. Everything that you’re feeling let them know. You should not be the one to deal with this. This is not your mess to clean up, it’s theirs. Whatever it is that happens between them, let them figure it out themselves and don’t let yourself get caught up in between. If you do, you will only end up hurting yourself.”
I nodded my head as to say that I understood what he meant and gave him a short smile. I never thought I would tell anyone about this but in a matter of minutes he made me feel better. What would I have done if he wasn’t there with me that day?
Silence took over once again. It was getting dark and the view was getting better and better.
“What about work?” Shawn broke the silence. “You said that there was something wrong with family and work. What about work?” he asked.
I didn’t know how to answer this question so I chose silence.
“Princi, what is it?” he asked again “Is it Lucy Chaw?”
Lucy Chaw was part of the problem and the bigger one was me going out with my boss. I couldn’t tell him any of the stuff they said about me because I was not even one bit curious of how he would react to the situation. So I covered my face with a smile and shook my head by saying “It’s nothing. Work is all fine.”
He gave me a smile. But it was not the big smile that he always had on his face. It was the kind of smile that you show a person when you want to hide your true emotions, just like how I was doing at the time. After a while we decided to go back so we went to the car. When I opened the door I heard my phone ring. Shawn and I had left our phones in the car so there were bunch of missed calls. My phone stopped ringing as I picked it up. My mom and MC had been blowing up my phone all day not just with calls but with texts as well. MC called again. I put my phone on mute and told Shawn that I wanted to use the ladies room and that I would be back.
I took a turn at the corner and picked up the phone. But had I not known that the turn I took was to a gift-shop and not the restroom.
“Why do you keep calling me?” I asked her as soon as I picked up the phone.
“Did you do it?” she asked me back.
“Do what?”
“Did you break up with him?” she asked more specifically.
I sighed huge “No. MC I couldn’t do it.” I continued “I was so sure that I could break up with him but today he reminded me why I liked him in the first place. I feel so selfish for wanting to choose my job over him. I would rather quit my job than break up with him.”
“Oh thank God. Where are you?” she asked.
“We are still at the amusement park but we are about to leave now.” I saw a shadow move real fast behind me. I turned around to see who it was and there was no one. So I turned back and said “Anyway, we are about to so I will call you when I get home.”
I hanged up the phone and walked back to the car. Shawn was not in the car. He was outside leaned against the door on the passengers’ side with his arms crossed and his eyes closed. He must have heard me approach him, he opened his eyes. The look in his eyes, send a chill storming in my body.
“You ok” I asked him.
He slowly stood straight and stood in front of me and released his crossed arms. He wanted to say something but he kept hesitating. I got confused. Just minutes ago he was fine. He finally spoke after fighting the words out of his throat.
“Remember when I told you that I would grant you a wish whatever it was that you needed?” he asked. I remembered that he told me to take my time to think of what I need so I nodded my head. His eye brows slowly and sorrowfully getting pushed together, he said “Let’s break up!”…
