Chapter 32
I stayed the entire day in my room and I went down stairs for dinner. My mom was setting the table and dad was at the TV sitting next to his black bag. I took my place at the dining table and then my mom and finally my dad. It was too quite. The only sounds that you would hear are those of the sounds the plates and spoons made when they collide. I looked up at my dad and he was deep in thoughts. I shifted my eyes to my mom and she looked as exhausted as always. I felt bad for her which made it harder to approach the topic in front of her so I decided that it would be better to do it without her. So I waited until we were done with dinner. Since my mom was too tired I offered to do the dishes so she could go to bed early. I started doing the dished and dad went back to his seat and mom went to their bed room. As soon as I heard the master bedroom door closed I leaped over to where my dad was and stood over him with both my hands on my hip.
He looked up at me and I down on him. He looked at me for about five minutes with no words and he finally turned away. I finally told him in a very cold tone that we needed to talk.
“We need to talk.”
“About what”
“About the other women and your affairs”
“What are you talking about?”
“You know damn well what I am talking about.”
When he couldn’t answer I continued
“I saw you in the café with some woman and I know that she is your mistress.” As soon as I said that his eyebrows went up, I could tell that he knows what I was talking about and his surprise to this situation totally conformed to me that my assumption was right after all.
“No you have it all wrong; I am not having an affair…” I cut him off
“I saw you with her” when I realized my voice had gone up I looked back, made sure that my mom was not behind me somehow. Turned back to my dad and whispered my words “How could you deny it?”
“She is not my mistress, she is my…” I once again cut him off “It is not me you need to explain yourself to, it is mom. Tell her everything.” I demanded.
In between our back and front I didn’t even realize that he had stood up from his seat. He stretched out both his hands towards me as a form of plead and said “There is nothing to tell Prince, listen to me…”
I was not going to entertain whatever lie and made up story he was about to tell me so for the last time that day I cut him off “Either you tell her or I will!” I made my threat and walked away to the kitchen to finish the dishes and I left for my room. I can see his reflection through the small mirror on the refrigerator and until the moment I left I could see that he was still standing right where I left him stunned.
I guess he really didn’t see it coming and thought that maybe he was going to get away with everything. The next morning I went down stairs all dressed for work wondering if dad had already told mom. But all I saw was my mom getting ready to leave for work and my dad having breakfast. I guessed that he didn’t tell her yet but just to make sure I stepped closer to mom and said “So mom, what’s new?”
My mom while putting a plate in front of the chair where I usually sit said “I am late for work and you will be too if you don’t have your breakfast quick and go.”
Yap, just as I expected he has told her shit- Nothing. Now I am furious. No matter how demanding I was yesterday he still didn’t tell her. I was getting late for work as my mom said but I was not willing to let this one go, so I stuck around a little while longer. As soon as mom walked out I leaped towards my father and stood over him as I did the night before. He looked up from his breakfast and looked at me like nothing happened.
I placed my left hand on my hip waiting for a different reaction. But he said “Well you better go to work.”
I couldn’t believe him. After being confronted by his own daughter about his affairs on his wife all he was going to do was pretend it didn’t happen? I was not going to let him off the hook that easily because I know that I needed to make sure that this is fixed before I move out.
Now I changed my passion form angry hand -on- hip to disappointed crossed arms. We stayed that way for about five minutes until he finally broke.
“It was all a misunderstanding. It is not like what you think.” he pleaded.
“I don’t care how it is. All I care about is that mom finds out what kind of a cheater you are.”
“For the last time I am not cheating on your mother. Why the hell would you think I would do that?”
“I don’t know why you do the things you do. Maybe you feel moms’ dominance in this marriage of her wearing the pants and that made you feel like you needed to take charge somehow.” I know I was being a little mean to him but he deserved it. He looked mad and disappointed to hear that.
“Is that how you really think our marriage works?” he asked, and with a cold tone I answered “It’s the truth.” He stopped begging of understanding because now he was getting ready to kick my ass.
“I am your father… You will not speak to me like that…”
I will be honest, he is kind of scary when he has his eyebrows pushed down to his eyeballs and lowers his voice but I was pretty worked up as well so I didn’t back down from the truth.
“I’m going to move out.”
He immediately lost the scary dad roll and pulled his eyebrows away from his eyes. He seemed to have lost all the words he has known his entire life so I continued.
“If you don’t tell mom the whole truth and come clean, I will leave and I will never come back.”
I know that I was going to move out whether or not he told her but I used this truth to my advantage and threatened him. I wanted to set a huge burden on him so I stormed out of there before he could get another word in and I went to work. I was too upset to even tell how late I was or the problem that was waiting for me at word until I step foot in the building. It slowly hits me. I remembered everything. It turns out that I was so occupied by my family’s issue that I forgot about my love life-which was over- and my work-which will soon be over- because how am I supposed to work here now.
I looked over at everyone around wondering if I was still being picked on by people. But everyone seemed to be busy doing whatever it was that they were doing. I looked over at the door leading to the stair way wondering if I had the strength to climb all those stairs, hell I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to be here at this moment. But since I need this job I figured out the best solution. The broken elevator; If I go in and it breaks down like it always does and I end up getting stuck in there for hours no one will blame me; because it means that I actually showed up to work and I won’t have to face anyone while I am at it. It was the perfect plan so I headed for the elevator. I pressed the button up and waited for my perfect plan to arrive. But when it opened I saw him. It looked like he was going down and we happened to meet right there on the spot where we first met. Isn’t this some romantic comedy movie bullshit? …
