Chapter 38
I looked at the pizza box with a pout on my lips. Tissues are scattered every where from my little tantrum.
I have been balling my eyes out for the last two hours as i told MC and Oliver what happened at work today.
As soon as i saw the paper to my suspension, i had rushed to Human Resources and demanded an explanation and all they said was that it cam from above and that there is nothing they could do about it.
It cam from above...could probably mean that shawn was the one who passed out my punishment for "tripping" Lucy Chaw in the conference room yesterday.
I had stormed out of the building and came straight to our new apartment. I already knew that MC and Oliver would not be here until after their work hours but i just sat here on the balcony and zoned out.
When my friends finally showed up though, now that is a different story. The water works broke and hadn't stopped licking since for the last two hours.
Oliver was just upset as i was. He wasn't throwing a tantrum like i am but he's pretty pissed.
He gave me a side hug and rubbed his hand up and down my arm to comfort me.
"So what are you going to do?" MC she is sighed before blowing my nose as loud as it gets.
"Probably wait the suspension out." I answered with another heavy sigh.
"Do you really think Shawn is the one who got you suspended?" She asked and Oliver glared at her.
She mouthed 'what' with a shrug before looking back at me.
"I don't know." I whispered "i mean... He doesn't have any reason to hate me. We parted on the terms of making things easier at work. I don't think he would just make things harder for me all of a sudden..."
I trialed off as more tears filled my eyes and i sobbed like a kid again. I can almost hear MC roll her eyes at me and Oliver mumble 'cry baby ' under his breath, which cause me to stop for a second and glare at my so called friends.
"They suspended me without pay. Without pay. I won't be moving in this month..."
"Nah. Don't worry about it. I got you covered." Said MC before looking at Oliver. "We got you covered."
Oliver nodded his head and flashed me a sweet smile.
"Thank you guys." I whispered before blowing my nose again.
MC threw her arms in the air and Oliver cringed when i blew my nose.
"Alright, i think it's time to go home." MC commented as she stood up.
"I though this was home." I replied as i looked up at her with a pout.
MC looked away to the balcony with a groan.
"Don't do that, Princi. Don't look at me like a lost child." She looked back down at me and Oliver before she continued "look bestie, you know i got your back. Always have and always will. But you are annoying the hell out of me right now and i need to get the hell out of here before i start mothering you for real."
I pouted even more when she moved over to collect her bag and phone.
"Don't stress too much, okay. Relax. We have ice cream night tomorrow at your place so i will be there and you can have my mom's, your mom's and my very own ears to listen to you complain all night. But you have to let me go for today."
She quickly hugged Oliver and I and made her way out the door.
Oliver chuckled before helping me up from the floor.
"She's right. Besides i still have work to go to in the morning so... I should probably hit it as well."
I nodded my head. Feeling sorry for myself, i followed Oliver from behind and locked the door before going home.
***
Ice cream night. Whop.
All of us ladies, including our newly added member_my aunt_ wore onesy pajamas and sat around the table with different flavors of ice cream opened wide in the middle.
It hasn't been a very eventful night though. As things are still intense between MC and her mother.
They kept stealing glances at each other like bunch of teens while my mom, my aunt and i waited for one of them to speak to the other.
But an entire tube of ice cream and an hour of silence to our usually holy day later, i decided to butt in.
"So..." I trailer off as i looked back and forth between the mother and daughter. "Mrs. C, how are things at home?"
MCs' mom smiled at me before she glanced at her daughter.
"It has been really good. We decided to work from home for a while so we could spend more time together."
"Who's 'we'?" MC asked her mom even though i am one hundred percent sure that she knows well enough who 'we' is.
"Your father and I, sweetheart."
MC scoffed at her mother and looked away, but bot before monstering a huge bite from the chocolate flavored ice cream.
"MC." I let out a warning and she turned to glare at me.
I widened my eyes at her and she rolled her at me before sighing and looking at her mom.
"How did you guy reconnect anyway?" She asked.
MCs' mom was a little taken back by the question by she shone a smile before she cleared her throat.
"Well...we bumped into each other when i was at the pharmacy to get some painkillers for my headache and he was helping a friend out.
"At first, i pretended that he wasn't there but he walked up to me. He asked if i was okay and if i needed any help. I told him to go away because i was sporting a major headache but he wouldn't. He kept following me around. He started coming over to my work place just to see if i was okay."
She smiled a bit and looked down at her spoon.
"I was scared with his sudden interest. I got scared even more when he asked me to have coffee with him in the morning.
"I kept refusing him until one of my coworkers mentioned that he used to visit a lot even after our divorce just to ask about me but no one ever told me.
"So i decided to have coffee with him. Coffee slowly turned in to lunch, which slowly turned in to evening walks, which turned in to a romantic dinner...
"I don't know how it happened. But...it felt like i was meeting him for the first time. Like when we first started dating when we were teenagers."
She smiled again before she looked up at MC.
"What about the bimbo he left you for?" MC asked and my mom, my aunt and i all glared at her for interrupting such a beautiful romance story.
MCs' mom flattered before she answered.
"We did talk about her before we moved forward in our relationship. Umm... She... He told me that she was trying the bleed him dry, that she was after his pocket and she played like a caring woman when i couldn't.
"We always had problems because of work and i was almost never around. I kept blowing him off every time he tried to make our marriage work, when ever he would go out of his way to do something so romantic, i would just tell him I'm busy with work or that I'm too tired from work.
"If I'm being honest with you guys, he was the best husband and i was the worst wife ever. I balmed the other woman when he left but the fault was with no one but me. When he slapped the divorce papers on the table, i knew he had enough of waiting around for me to look at him..."
MCs' mom suddenly teared up and she sniffled as she tired to continue.
"It was my fault he left, Missy. He loved me but i pushed him away. And because of that i lost the man i loved and i cost you and Noah a good father."
She whipped a lone tear off her cheeks before she looked up at her daughter.
"That woman he left me for pretended to love him, to care for him. But when he found out that she was just after his money, he left her. That's it. He has never been with anyone else even though he had every right to be. But instead, he would visit my work place and ask about me..."
She sniffled before scooping some vanilla ice cream and chocolate all together before eating it.
Silence once again too over our night until MC spoke again.
"I'm sorry." She whispered as she looked at her reflection through the bottom of her spoon.
"I'm really sorry i made things harder for you guys, mom." MC looked up at her mother before she continued.
"I guess ...it was a little hard for me to understand how you guys got together after everything. And i was mad that you kept it from me and Noah. But, at the very least...i am happy that you are happy. Both of you. And..."
She glanced at me before she continued "Once Princi, Oliver and I get settled in, i'll make dinner and invite you guys over. Besides, Noah will be back for Christmas so...you know, we'll have a family holy day dinner."
MCs' mom slowly stood up from her seat and walked over to my best friend and pulled her in to her arms.
The two hugged for a few minutes and murmured something to each other while the rest of us cheered like highschool girls.
By the time every one was settled down, we got in to a fine pace of conversation and may i say, my dad's sister she a huge gossip and she had some juicy stories about her work place.
By the time the ice cream was almost done, i remembered that i haven't told them big news.
"Oh...by the way you guys...i have a blind date next week."
