Chapter 56

I stared at the screen of my computer without actually looking the opened file. I'v been trying to concentrate all day by my mind had been blank. I haven't been able to help Oliver with work, especially after i talked to Lucy Chaw and found out that she didn't steal my proposal.

"Hey..." Oliver called out and i turned my faze over to him "I'm ready to get off work and the reports is printed out. All you have to do is hand it to the boss, okay."

I nodded my head and watched Oliver turn his computer off and stood up, ready to leave.

"Why did you get permission to get off work early?" I asked him.

"Grandma has been sick and my parents are really busy so i need to take care of her until one of them gets home. Once their care taker gets back on work, i won't be needed much though..."

Oliver scratched the back of his head and hesitantly walked closer and sat on my desk.

"MCs' birthday is in a few days and... I was thinking maybe...we can set something up for her?"

"Yeah, sure." I smiled at how excited Oliver looked before he walked out of our office.

I went back to staring at nothing until it was time for me to take the daily reports to Shawn, which is the last thing i want to do.

Ever since the little coffee house incident, i was ten times more careful to avoid him at any cost. But now, avoiding him was not a very good option. So, i picked the report up from my desk and solemnly walked to Shawn's office.

When i got to his door, Lucy Chaw wasn't at her desk and instead of waiting for her, i walked straight up to the door and softly knocked. I waited for Shawn to call out but he didn't.

I knocked again and waited for two minutes before i decided to let myself in. 

I walked in to see that Shawn was not in his office. I decided to come back later but his desk full of opened and closed files and papers caught my eyes.

I walked closer to his desk and swept my eyes over the papers to see if mt proposal had accidentally mixed up with all these other files. But to my disappointment, my file wasn't among the many on the desk.

I was about to turn aroun and leave again but something stoped me. And without even meaning to, i walked around the desk and stood next to Shawn's chair. I once again looked over the desk and didn't find anything.

What am i doing? Shawn would never be reckless with work and is always careful. He won't mess up this way.

I sighed and started to walk away from his chair but stoped in my track when his cracked drawer caught my eyes.

I hesitated for a few seconds before slowly reaching down to fully open the top drawer and what i saw, made my blood run cold.

There it is. My business proposal tucked safely in his top drawer. This can't be.

With shacking hands, i reached in and pulled out the file. One look and i can tell that it is infact the business proposal i worked so hard for, my one ticket out of heartbreak town.

I didn't even know how long i stood there, just staring down at my proposal with complete shock. Soon, my attention was stolen by the office door opening and closing.

I looked up to see Shawn looking at me with wide eyes and i realized that he did this on purpose. It wasn't a mistake and Lucy Chaw never took my proposal from me. It was his. Shawn did this and cost me that promotion.

"What did you do?" I whispered as i looked at him straight in the eyes.

Shawn didn't say anything at first. He just took a deep breath and closed his eyes, knowing well enough that i caught him.

"WHAT DID YOU DO?" I screamed the words out this time and he opened his eyes to see me fuming with anger and betrayal.

"What dis you do Shawn?" I asked again as i saw sadness and shame cross his eyes. But he refused to give me an answer to my question or even speak a single word.

I waited for a few more minutes before i lost it. I walked around the desk and stood infront of him. I started to wave the proposal i found in his desk and demanded an answer over and over again.

""WHY DID YOU DO IT?"

"BECAUSE THE PROMOTION IS IN Washington." 

He finally yelled out his answer and i was more than stunned.

"The promotion is in another city away from here and i was not ready to let you go. Don't you get it. I love you. I have never stopped loving you and i will never stop to love you..."

"No." I shook my head as i slammed the proposal against his chest but refused to watch mt hard work fall to the ground. "No. You don't get to say that after what you cost me. I will not accept that. This isn't love Shawn..."

"Yes it is!" He cuts me of but i shook my head again. 

I can feel tears welling up in my eyes and i didn't even try to fight them when they dropped down my cheeks and ashed my face.

"No, its not. Because if it ever was truly love, then you wouldn't be shoving your tongue down Lucy Chaws' throat." The words ripped out of my throat before i could even stop them.

I saw Shawn pale s he realized that i saw him with Lucy Chaw that day after i got back from my suspension.

"It's not what it looked like. Do not jump in to a conclusion..." He tried to explain but i couldn't hear it.

"I don't care, Shawn. I just don't. You ruined my chance at moving on. You stole it from me. And now you're going to tell me you did it because you love me?"

"Yes." Shawn answered with a clenched jaw and i got angrier. 

"You're sick." I commented before i tried to move around him and leave. But Shawn caught my arm and pushed me against the closed door of his office.

"Tell me you hate me. Tell me you don't love me anymore and... I'll make everything right. I'll confess about your proposal and have them reevaluate the results for the promotion. All you have to do is tell me that you don't love me."

More tears ran down my face as i listened to him. He looked straight into my soul with his deep sea blue eyes as he waited for me to speak.

"I hate you." I whispered with a sob and Shawn immediately pressed his lips against mine. And to my absolute horror, I... I kissed him back.

Shawn's hands moved up to cup my cheeks as he deepened the kiss and i found myself slowly closing my eyes and welcoming his love.

Shawn kissed me like his life depended on it and i returned the favour.

Until...i snapped out of his spell and pushed him away. 

Shaw's eyes snapped open and i slammed my hand over my mouth. What the hell is happening?

I closed my eyes for a second or two and opened them back up to see that Shawn was closely watching me, asif he wanted o hold me again but also wanted to give me space.

I looked at his eyes looking back at kine and my heart drummed painfully against my chest.

I have no idea what I'm supposed to do at this moment but one thing is for sure...i needed to get out of there.

I quickly opened the door and rushed out, turning deaf ear to all Shawn's calls.

What am I going to do?
