Chapter 21: The Offer
Avery was about to open the door when she heard Carson spoke. “What am I supposed with the first candidate? She didn’t come from a rich family.” She smiled to him. “But you wanted to take her to the event, don’t you?”
She didn’t wait for her to reply and left the room. Carson looked at Avery’s profile. She was the first candidate. After her was the list of the 5 most powerful women in the country. All of which are familiar to Carson. These women came from top companies.
He placed Avery’s profile on the side and he focused on these women even if he knew deep inside that she was right.
Avery was confident that she could get Carson soon. His gaze, his movements, and everything else were obvious. She had him wrapped around her finger and she needed to attend that party to get her name known so once Carson decided to leave her, she had connections already.
She smirked. Carson was the perfect candidate. In the end, Jane was right.
“A party????”
Jane exclaimed upon hearing her friend. Avery was already looking through her clothes to check if she had the best gown.
“But did he say he would invite you?” Jane asked as she lifted some of the dresses on the bed. Avery continued to look at her clothes, “Technically, he didn’t. But I know he would.” Jane raised her eyebrow and laid on Avery’s bed. She decided to visit for a change.
“We’re talking about Carson here. He wasn’t your typical target. He was weird. He wasn’t interested in you.” Avery smirked and turned to her friend. “At first. If you only saw how he pinned me in the wall, you would be sure he would make me his girlfriend in no time.”
Avery was so sure of herself. It was game over. No more playing games with Carson.
However, her happiness immediately disappeared the moment she entered the office the next day. Carson was preparing to leave when he passed by her. “Hey, I might come a bit late, I have a breakfast date with Allison.”
Avery raised an eyebrow. “Allison?” Carson nodded and smiled. “One of the candidates you gave me.” He then patted her shoulder, “Thanks, Avery.” She couldn’t hide her irritation. Before she could say anything, he walked away.
He was wearing a wonderful suit and she noticed that he used extra perfume just for the date. She frowned as she walked to her seat. She was so sure that she had him. She immediately checked the list of women and saw that Allison was a new in the industry. Her family suddenly got fame when her father developed an app that could help a lot of people.
Avery leaned back in her chair. She could still seduce Carson even if he had a girlfriend but she really wanted to attend that party. She tried thinking which ex of hers would go there but obviously they would attend with their wives. It was a big event after all.
Avery tried to just focus on her work but there was an uneasy feeling inside her. She kept thinking about what happened during the date. She rolled her eyes. Inside her drawer, there was a sunglass and scarf. She got both and head out.
Based on her research, Allison only ate at one restaurant nearby. She knew Carson would choose that as a meeting place. Avery hid herself with the scarf on her neck and sunglasses. From the outside, she saw Carson and Allison busy talking. He seemed to be having a good time as he kept on laughing.
Avery looked at herself in the mirror. No one would easily recognize her. She even tied her hair to be sure. She entered the restaurant with her famous walk and sat a bit farther than the pair. She used the menu to hid her identity and pretended to order something.
The restaurant had a cozy feeling and most of the customers are wealthy people. Some people turned their gaze towards her since she was looking weird with her sunglasses and scarf. Avery didn’t mind. She was still busy eyeing the pair when someone sat infront of her.
“Excuse me, but---“
She was cut off when she saw who it was. Ji smiled at her, a smile that she was starting to hate. She tried to keep her composure but his smile never left his face. She didn’t place the menu down, giving them distance.
“What brings you here? I haven’t seen you eat here before.”
“It’s none of your business. It’s not like you own this anyway and even if you did, I am a customer.”
Ji nodded as he looked away. “As always, you were good at banters. But I wonder, why do you have to hide your face just to eat here? Or maybe you were following someone?”
Avery placed the menu down to look at him. “Why would you think that? Aren’t you the weird one here, coming to my seat just to accuse me?” Ji laughed, a little loud for other people to hear. His huge build was covering her view of Carson and Allison so Avery wasn’t sure if they turned to them.
“I know you’re interested in Carson. I know everything about you, Avery. Your exes and all your naughty deeds. But I am not here to blackmail you.”
She frowned. She was feeling uneasy ever since she met this guy. But his facial expression was confident and evil. She also saw his reaction yesterday and it was something she was curious about.
“Then why are you here?”
He paused, making the anticipation even worse. But she knew these kinds of men. He would be plotting something that would benefit him than her. But what? If he planned her to be his mistress, she would reject him right away.
“I want to make a deal with you. A deal that you won’t regret.”
