Chapter 25: The Party
The event took place in a huge mansion. Avery heard about these events but never did she imagine that she would actually go to one of these. The mansion was full of lights and the bodyguards were scattered everywhere. Expensive cars took turns in entering the gate and Avery couldn’t take her eyes off the mansion. It was magical.
When the car reached the main door, Avery slowly opened the door and took a step. There were flashes everyone as each reporter took a photo of her. Despite being crowded by reporters, she saw Carson standing near here with a smile on his face.
Avery suddenly got the confidence and smiled back at him. He was wearing a black tuxedo that matched the color of her dress. His hair was brushed up and he was overflowing with charisma. She took his hand as he helped her get out of the car.
The moment she was out, she could hear the reporters calling her. “Carson, who is this gorgeous woman?” “Is she your new girlfriend?” “Whose family did she come from?” “Will she be your future wife?”
Avery turned to Carson who was smiling as they stood in front of these curious individuals. He held her waist, pulling her closer to him. “She’s Avery. She is my date tonight. She doesn’t live here so I don’t think it’s necessary for you to find out more about her.” He turned to her and smiled. “What’s important is that this woman makes me happy.”
Avery was taken aback by what he said. She knew it could be part of the script but his gaze felt so sincere. She didn’t say anything else and just smiled at him. He then held her hand as they entered the mansion. The reporters continued asking questions but they didn’t answer.
“What about you dad?” she mumbled to him. He moved closer to her to whisper, “I asked someone to write an article about you so when they decided to write about us, they have something prepared.” He moved away and winked at her.
This was a different Carson. He was no longer the sweet guy who didn’t care about wealth. He was a young billionaire who wanted the best for his company.
There was a huge staircase before the door. Each stair had a guard watching their every move. Carson helped her walk and his hand on her waist felt warm. When they reached the door, two guards opened it for them and Avery’s eyes widen when she saw what was inside.
The hall was full of elegant men and women. All were wearing gowns and tuxedos that were obviously high class. There were chandelier and the walls were covered in white and gold with unique designs. There were waiters walking around with glasses of wine and plates of hors d’oeuvre.
As expected, the hall was full of security guards to protect these powerful and wealthy people. Carson’s hand moved to her hand as he led the way to the host of the party. The host was the President of the country and according to Avery’s research, the party was conducted for these people to think of a way to improve the economy.
“Good evening” Carson greeted while Avery smiled. The President and his wife nodded and smiled at them. “I do hope that Lee Technology can help us progress more once you became the CEO.”
Carson shyly smiled. His aura was different that usual and it made him even more mysterious this way. The First Lady turned to Avery. “What a beauty. I haven’t seen you before.”
Avery smiled. “Thank you but I am no match for you. You are the most beautiful in the room.” The woman chuckled. “I like her.” Carson then excused themselves as they start to mingle with other guests.
His every move felt calculated. His steps were dignified, his smile was full of confidence, and his aura was intimidating. He presented himself as the next CEO of Lee Technology and Avery knew that she could never change his mind.
As they walk and greet the guests, she saw Ji from across the room with his date. He was wearing a blue tuxedo that matched his date's dress. They looked stunning and no one would predict that he had evil plans for Carson. He had an innocent and kind vibe around him.
When their eyes met, he smiled at her as if reminding her of their deal. She smiled back even if she knew she would fail. Their eye contact was cut short as Carson pulled her away to meet a good friend of his dad.
“I didn’t know you had a new girlfriend!” The old man commented as Carson and Avery approached them. “Good evening” Avery greeted him. The old man turned to Carson. “She looked better than your last one. I heard she’s dating a poor guy.”
Carson nodded. “Let us respect her. I will always be happy for her.” All of his answers were perfect. Avery started to feel that she was with a different guy.
“Excuse me for a bit, I have to go to the washroom” Carson suddenly said and turned to Avery as if waiting for her approval. When she nodded, he slowly let go of his grip of her and head to the washroom.
The old man then decided to talk to another guest while Avery was left alone. A waiter offered her a glass of wine and she gladly accept it. She eyed everyone in the room and admired their clothes. It suddenly felt a different world even if Avery was living a better life. The level of these wealthy people were still different.
“I didn’t expect that I’d see you here. I thought Carson lied the other day.”
Avery turned to the direction of the voice and saw Jenny. She was wearing a blue balloon dress that made her look like a fairy. Avery smirked. The night just got interesting.
