Chapter 32: Her End of the Deal

Avery’s eyes widen in surprise, “What?”Carson then walked to her and held her hand, “This is what you wanted all along, right?”

She smirked and held his hand tighter, “you bet”

When the family went out of the building, flashes of cameras welcomed them. The family was suddenly in their best selves, not that they weren’t before. But it just felt like they were such a perfect family that everyone would want to be a part of.

Mrs. Lee clinger her arm on Mr. Lee. Ms. Lee, Carson’s sister, smiled widely as she wore her sunglasses. Carson then held Avery’s waist and pulled her next to him.

Avery’s heart continued to beat fast but she was not sure if it was because of the sudden contact or the overwhelming attention she got from the press.

“What does this mean? Is Avery a new part of your family?” one of the reporters boldly asked as he held a recorder. Avery turned to Carson who was about to speak but the spotlight was moved to Mr. Lee.

“Yes. As you all know, my son brought this wonderful woman to the party a few days ago as a way to announce their relationship. We accept her fully and we are hoping that this relationship will end up with Avery being officially one of us.”

Avery’s eyes widen. What does he mean by being one of them? She never thought of her plan that far ahead. She just wanted to date Carson for his money not become his wife.

“So that does mean she is a potential wife?” another reporter asked this time. “Maybe? For now, we just want to support Carson” Mrs. Lee replied. The couple then started walking away followed by Ms. Lee. Carson then led the way and Avery followed.

She suddenly felt like one of those celebrities whose life would be like a reality show. If the press’ eyes were on them, that would mean she had to stick with Carson all the time. While that could be a good thing, it would mean that all her movements would be monitored by everyone.

While she walked, she saw Ji by the parking lot. He was smiling widely. He mouthed, “Good job” She immediately looked away. She needed to do something about Ji and hopefully, Alexander would be able to help her ASAP.
The family then entered the restaurant. Since it was an exclusive restaurant for the elite, the press wasn’t able to follow them. There were no words exchanged. The waiter immediately led the way to a private room.

The restaurant was classy. The walls were all black with a chandelier on the ceiling. The place was cozy and not a lot of people were there --- as it is exclusive and the food was so expensive, one can buy a house with one course.

No wonder the restaurant was exclusive. Aside from their front, there were tons of private rooms inside. The private rooms had the same design as the outside. Once the waiter was gone, the family decided to sit on their preferred seats. The seats were comfy but for some reason, Avery wasn’t. Carson’s hand then moved to Avery’s hand. She didn’t understand why he still had to hold her when the press was no longer around but she didn’t mind either.

She knew he didn’t agree well with what his family wanted and maybe having her there with him made things easier.

Mrs. Lee removed her hat as she placed her hands on her cheek. “To be honest, I didn’t check your background. But considering that you are an assistant for my son would mean you are not in our level” Avery wasn’t surprised by the sudden statement. She knew they would talk about her status sooner or later.

“Mom” Carson tried to stop the topic but Avery stopped him. She smiled, she hated it when people looked at her that way even if it was the truth.

“Yes. I am below your level. But that doesn’t mean I cannot have a good lifestyle. I can still afford some of the clothes that you know. I can go to the places you went to. I just don’t prefer spending that much money on things that weren’t necessary.”

A smile appeared on Mr. Lee’s face. Ms. Lee clapped her hands, “I know where you put your money and I am quite happy that you were that kind of woman.” Mrs. Lee turned to her daughter. “Oh, she puts it in charity” Ms. Lee explained as she opens her phone.

Avery was surprised that the family knew that. How much information do they have?

Mr. Lee lighted his cigar, “as we all know, all transactions must benefit both parties. As you will help us gain more clients, what do you want to get in return?”

Carson’s grip on Avery tightened as if signaling her to turn it down. But Avery wasn’t like that. She knew making a deal with a powerful man like Mr. Lee won’t be easy and she had been making deals with a lot of people lately. She needed to make the best decision that could benefit her.

If she decided to remove Ji from his post, the Lee family would find out their connection. If she chose money, their image of her about being a gold digger would be confirmed. She couldn’t get a position in the company even if she wanted to because it would be hard to leave when she decided to switch to a new target.

Mr. Lee’s gaze on her was different from before. He no longer looked at her like she was Carson’s assistant. She was now a potential investment that could benefit his family. Mrs. Lee seemed to be anticipating her answer. She wasn’t a big fan of Avery and Avery was aware of that.

Ms. Lee was just busy with her phone as she didn’t seem to care about the transaction that much. Carson looked nervous.

Avery smiled as she turned her attention back to Mr. Lee. “I want Carson in return.”
