Chapter 47: The Bestfriend's Idea
Avery knew that Carson might’ve made a mistake when he called her that night. He could’ve just dialled the number without knowing who it was because if he really did call her, he would’ve said something.
She knew she was drunk because she could hear bottles in the background. The sound was too familiar as she heard the same bottle sounds whenever she went to Jane’s place. But what she didn’t know was Carson’s history related to alcohol. She just risked everything when she decided to meet his sister.
Ms. Lee’s reaction was exactly what Avery hoped to see. But all her plans were ruined when the young billionaire’s sister spoke. “There is nothing I can do to help you.”
“What do you mean?”
Ms. Lee lightly smirked, “You met my family, remember? You know how things work and who decides for everyone. I care about Carson but nothing I do or say would matter to that family.”
Avery paused. This was the first time she saw this side of Ms. Lee even if she just met each other once. “I see.”
Ms. Lee turned back to her old self and focused on her work. “Plus, I really didn’t like what you did to my brother.” Avery nodded, of course she understood. “I will try my best to earn his and your family’s trust again.”
Ms. Lee chuckled, “Good luck with that.”
As it was another failed attempt, Avery decided to just go home. What could be the best way to get Carson’s attention? Just then, her phone rang.
“Hello? Babe?”
“Hey, Ave! I was wondering if you’re free? I need your help with something since I’m meeting Brix’s friends tonight.”
“Sure. I’ll be there in 5.” Avery then hanged up. Her eyes widened when she realized what Jane just said. She was meeting the friends! Maybe Carson had his own set of friends who could help her. While waiting for the cab to arrive, Avery surfed the net to see who Carson’s friends are.
He never mentioned anyone before but she was hoping she could find something. The cab stopped in front of her and she immediately hopped in. Rich people like Carson do have their lives exposed in the media.
Every event of his life like his birthday and graduation was posted online with various articles. He was like a celebrity who was followed since he was a little kid. She was so busy with research that she didn’t know that she was already at Jane’s place.
“Thank God you’re here! It was all of a sudden. One of his friends decided to visit from another country then Brix thought it was a good idea to let me meet them.” Jane explained as Avery walked into the room.
“Did he tell you where you guys are going?” Avery asked as she looked at the pile of clothes on the floor. Some things just never change. Jane turned to her, “It was a restaurant nearby. Not so fancy. But I wanted to look presentable.”
Avery nodded as she started looking at Jane’s dresses. “Try this” She threw her bestfriend a light pink dress. Jane was able to catch it and hurriedly went to the bathroom to change. While waiting, Avery went back to her phone.
“So, where did you go? What’s with the outfit?” Jane asked as Avery heard the sounds coming from the bathroom. She knew she couldn’t hide from her friend forever. “I went to see Carson’s sister.”
The door slammed opened with Jane half wearing the dress. “You what?” Avery chuckled as she looked at her friend. “Can you please finish wearing that first?” Jane struggled to wear the dress as she walked to her friend.
“Tell me everything.”
Avery took a deep breath as she helped Jane with zip the dress. It looked amazing on her. “I asked my mom for a sign and she gave it to me. So I wanted to fix things with Carson.” Jane turned to Avery, “But why meet his sister?”
“You look great” Avery suddenly said while Jane turned to the mirror. She was pleased with how she looked. “I like it. Let’s go with this one.” Jane then turned to Avery with a worried face. “So what did his sister say?”
Avery lightly smiled, “She won’t help me get back to Carson. I need to find a way to get him to talk to me.” Jane smiled, “I think I can help you with that.”
Avery didn’t agree with the plan but she can’t stop Jane even if she wanted to. Her friend was too persistent. Avery waited by the coffee shop near Lee technology as Jane entered the building.
She went back to surfing the net. If this plan won’t work, at least she could have a back-up plan. She just didn’t understand why he was with different people and not the same name was repeated twice.
Carson was busy preparing for his meeting when his door opened. A girl wearing a light pink dress entered with a small box. She didn’t look like a delivery woman so he immediately stood up. “Hi? How can I help you?”
Jane smiled widely. She happily walked to the confused man. She grabbed his hand for a handshake. “Hi! I’m Jane. It’s nice to finally meet you.”
“Jane?” He looked at her with confusion.
Jane placed the box on the table. “Sorry. I know you don’t know me. I’m Avery’s bestfriend.” His expression turned to a soft one. “You’re the friend who was taken to the hospital.” Jane clapped her hands in excitement. “Exactly!”
He nodded and smiled, “So, she asked you to come here.” Jane smiled and nodded. “She did. She wanted to talk to you but you know how Avery can be.”
Avery paused as she realized something. She remembered when Carson told her that everyone around him was after his money so he didn’t have anyone else. Not even friends.
“Ave?”
Avery turned to Jane who had a weird expression on her face. She couldn’t tell if the plan was successful or not.
“What did he say?”
