Chapter 41: The Revelation
Avery smiled, “It’s been a while, Tim.” Tim was one of the business owners Avery met during the party. He didn’t have any partnership with the Lee Technology which made him an ideal candidate.
Tim was quiet. He and his wife didn’t have much going on. He was those kinds of businessmen who minded his own career. He didn’t have any children and he was low profile. He wore an expensive suit but he didn’t seem the type to be conscious about his looks. His hair was brushed to the side, giving him bangs.
He looked young for his age as well. He had a thin physique and he didn’t seem the type to be interested only on a woman’s body. He greeted her with a warm smile but Avery felt weird meeting another man.
It’s not like she was exclusive for Carson but she just had this feeling that she was doing something wrong. She sat in front of him. They decided to meet at an expensive restaurant like the one Avery and the Lee family went to.
“Do you want us to go to a private room?” He asked as she settled in. She was looking at the menu. She paused and looked at her, “No. It’s fine.” She was confident that Carson or anyone they know would see them considering that it was a weekday.
The waiter approached them. Tim ordered burger and fries while Avery ordered salad. Tim smiled, “So what is this about? How are things with Carson?” Avery tried to study Tim before she answered, “You know how things are sometimes, right? I feel like I need to be free as well. Meet other men.”
His expression improved with her last statement. It seemed like they agree on the same thing. “So what are you trying to tell me?” he asked as the food arrived. Avery chuckled, “You know what it is.” She started to move her feet to his leg when he laughed.
“Are you sure you wanted it to be me?”
She titled her head with her question, “What do you mean?”
“There are a lot of men who you can do this setup. Why me?”
She smiled, “You caught my attention that night. I know you’re also interested so why not?” He nodded in understanding, “You should think this over. Carson is a great guy. He didn’t deserve this. I’d rather admire you from afar than hurt anybody.”
Avery lightly frowned because she couldn’t understand what was happening. Tim took a huge bite of his burger and looked at her. He was surprised at her reaction. “Don’t tell me you didn’t know? He was obviously in-love with you”
Avery wasn’t sure what to react. This was not the first time she heard something like this. She even heard it from him. But she didn’t expect that she would hear it from a lot of people, including Tim.
She looked down on her food. Was doing this the worst thing she could ever do to Carson? Was she making the biggest mistake?
Tim watched as she realized her feelings. What she didn’t know was that someone entered the restaurant as they were talking.
Carson was surprised that Avery didn’t come to work that day. She didn’t even bother telling him what’s up and just decided on her own. He knew something was up but he thought it was because he wasn’t clear with his intentions so he decided to tell her his feelings.
He wasn’t able to work well that day so when Ji invited him to eat lunch, he just agreed without thinking it as weird. Ji never invited him to anything but his worries about Avery let him off guard. As he and Ji were walking to the restaurant Ji suggested, he felt something weird.
Once they entered the restaurant, he immediately saw Tim by the corner. He wasn’t close to the businessman so he wasn’t really interested in him. “Let’s say hi!” Ji suggested as he walked to the guest.
Carson followed without much thought and was a bit intrigued that Tim was with a woman. She didn’t look like his wife but Carson didn’t want to judge the latter so he assumed that it could be a business affair.
But his heart was shattered the moment he saw a glimpse of the lady. Despite the change of hair color, he was sure that it was the woman he loved. Tim’s expression became stressed the moment he saw the guests coming.
He muttered a low, “oh no” as Ji and Carson walked to their table. There was nothing Tim could do and he regretted to be a part of this mess almost immediately.
“Hello, Tim! Nice to see you here!” Ji exclaimed with a loud voice. His tone was cheerful and Avery’s world stopped. Ji was here and why was he here. She couldn’t run even if she wanted to and she was sure that he would use this against her.
She wanted to sink into the floor with embarrassment. But she knew she had to beat Ji. She had to beat his own game. She could just say that she was asking for opinion about business and all that. Ji didn’t have any photo or record to hear their conversation.
She composed herself and was about to say something but when Ji stood beside their table, her eyes widen when she saw Carson. On the other hand, Carson saw her expression the moment they reached them.
She looked different with her hair but it was the same woman. But what he couldn’t understand was why was she with Tim? Why didn’t she go to work? Why didn’t she contact him that day?
He was so confused. He wanted to ask her a lot of things but the first words that came out of his mouth were, “What is going on here, Avery?”
