Chapter 29: Her Realization

Avery moved away as she fixed her dress. Carson did the same but he was moving too slow as if indicating that he didn’t want to leave yet. She chuckled, “You liked it that much?”

He didn’t respond and held her hand. “Let’s meet with the others.”

After the fireworks show, Carson and Avery said goodbye to some of the guests. Avery was supposed to ride the same car that brought her to the mansion but Carson insisted that he took her home.

As expected, he brought his Ferrari. But this time, Avery didn’t have to wait for a long time. He opened the door for her, which he didn’t before. Avery raised an eyebrow with the sudden act. “Wow, this is new.”

Carson laughed, “Just get in the car, miss”

She did as she was told. The car ride was quiet but it wasn’t awkward. Avery looked by the window as usual as the view was magnificent.

“You’re not taking me home just to continue what we started, right?”

He almost choked by what she said. He chuckled, “No. I just really want to take you home. No hidden agenda.”
She raised an eyebrow as she moved closer to him, “why not?” She then placed one of her hands on his thighs. He bit his lip with the sudden interaction.

“I lost control awhile ago. It was rude for me to do those things when I wanted to treat you well.”

Avery paused by his statement. She slowly moved her hand away as she analyzed what he just said. Mostly, the rich old men wouldn’t stop until they have her on bed but Carson was different. When she didn’t say anything, he spoke, “what’s wrong?”

“Nothing” She replied and looked away. She couldn’t explain what she was feeling. It was weird and unusual. She wasn’t sure what to do with the emotions.

When they reached her apartment, her real one this time and not Jane’s place, Avery took one last look at Carson before getting off his car. “Thanks for tonight.”

He smiled, “I should be telling you that. You were the one who came with me to that party.” She chuckled, “I had fun.”

Avery watched as the car drove away. She could still feel her heart beating fast about what happened in the mansion and on the car. She was scared that what she was feeling was something she tried so hard to prevent from happening: love.

The following morning, Avery decided to meet Alexander as a thank you for what he did for her. They decided to meet at his rest house which was an hour from the city. They always meet there to make sure no one would see them.

The rest house was located by the beach. The air feels fresh and the sound of the waves was very calming. Avery wore shorts and a tank top. Her hair was tied up in a ponytail. Alexander smiled upon seeing her out of the car.

“Hey!”

She smiled and waved her hands at him. Alexander then welcomed her inside. The rest house was spacious. Alexander’s family doesn’t visit there often so Alex would use it for his girls. Avery only went there a couple of times during their relationship.

She turned to him, “I missed this place.”

He nodded as he poured some juice on two glasses. He got both and handed Avery one. “So, what’s the update? I heard you and John broke up.” She smiled, took a sip, and turned to him. “I have a new target”
Alexander raised his eyebrow but he expected this. He knew how Avery works and he has nothing against it.
“Who is it this time?”

Alexander then sat on the couch while she sat across him. She crossed her legs as she placed her bag on the floor. “Carson Lee” She trusted Alexander. Even after they broke up, he never talked bad at her and would do her small favors. All he wanted in return was to see her.

“He’s not your type.”

Avery laughed, “Yeah. But I made a deal with Jane so here I am.”

Alexander nodded in understanding. “You look happy though. Did the plan go well?” Avery paused a bit, “Well, he’s not technically wrapped around my finger yet but I’m close.”

Alexander sipped his juice. “I can sense that you need my help.” She turned to him. “Oh, Alex. You know me so well.”

The thing about Alex was that he never asked her to do anything sexual with him. He just liked seeing her and talking to her. “Well, it will depend on what you need. I can’t do anything that could harm my business.”

Avery sighed as she leaned on the chair. “Do you know Ji? The board member of Lee Technology?” Alexander looked at her attentively. “Why?”

She took a deep breath. “He’s going to ruin my plan. I need to do something with him.” Alexander crossed his arms as he thought of a way to help her.

“Ji is a powerful man. It might not be easy to eliminate him if that’s what you want.”

She took a deep breath. “Maybe not eliminate him but get something against him that I can use.” Alexander turned to her. “Is he really that of a big issue?”

Avery nodded and looked at the beach. She knew she needed to do something about it. But she couldn’t think of anything.

“If I do find a way to get rid of Ji, what could you offer for me?”

Avery looked at him in surprise.

“What are you trying to say?”

He cleared his throat. “For some reason, I think Carson changed you. Your aura was different and I like this new you. If Ji is the only one stopping you from being happy, then I will do my best to help you.”

Avery smiled, but she paused when she realized what he just said about Carson. “What do you mean by my aura is different?”

Alexander smiled, “I’m saying that for the first time since I met you, you might be in-love.”
