Chapter 35: The New Game Plan

Avery slowly covered her body with his blazer. He smirked as he watched her expression, “Does that mean that it’s game over?”

She didn’t expect him to say these things. She was honestly speechless and it felt like she was with a different person.

“Not yet.” She then leaned closer to his ear, “I like what your father said about becoming part of your family.”
When she moved away, he cupped her face. “I think you’re a perfect candidate anyway.”

Carson’s eyes widen with what he just said. Avery was surprised too. She thought she was just playing around teasing him but the expression on his face was genuine. The tension between them became awkward.
Avery then moved away as she wore his blazer. He was frozen on the spot and didn’t know what to respond.

“Avery”

She lightly smiled, “let’s go home?”

When Avery arrived at her apartment, she saw Jane smiling at her. She knew that by now, her bestfriend must’ve heard the news. “I did my part of the deal.”

Jane happily hugged her friend. “I can’t believe this! You’re going to be part of that family!” Avery laughed and rolled her eyes. “As if”

She then moved away from her friend and started removing her shoes. Jane then laid on the bed. “So, when is the wedding?” Avery removed her clothes and got her towel.
“You know I would never get married.”

“I’m happy for you, Ave. It’s been a while since I saw you smile like that.”

Avery paused as she remembered Alexander saying the same thing. Was she really that different ever since Carson came?

She opened the shower as the warm water started pouring in her body. Her heart started beating once she remembered what Carson told her awhile ago. She knew that what was happening was wrong yet she was too indenial to admit it.

She paused, what if her fear finally came true?

The following morning, Avery went to work earlier. The news about her being a potential part of the Lee family was a hot topic for days. People started sending her friend requests in her social media. There are tons of articles released about where she came from but she knew that Lee Technology would handle everything.

The Lee family made sure that everything would be according to plan so they hired someone to pick her up from her apartment and took her to the office. Since she knew the situation, Avery wore one of her expensive dresses. A floral sleeveless balloon dress with white blazer. She then wore white high heels and curled her hair.
More people turned to her as she walked to the office but she didn’t mind. Her mind was actually elsewhere.

When she opened the door to Carson’s office, he was there reading the newspaper. She paused upon seeing him and decided to head to her seat. When he heard her heels around the room, he placed his newspaper down.

“Good morning”

Without looking at him, she replied, “Good morning.” He was surprised by her reaction but he didn’t put much attention to it. But what he didn’t know was that Avery was feeling nervous. She never felt this with anybody before and she didn’t know what to do.

The room was awfully quiet until it opened. Avery immediately recognized the smell coming from the door. “Hello, Carson”

Carson immediately stood up to greet the visitor. “Ji. What brings you here?” Avery turned to Ji who was already looking at her. Ji wore his usual coat and tie that had average style and fabric.

“Well, I heard the news and I am actually happy for the both of you.” He then walked closer to Avery as his smile grew. “I hope you don’t forget what we talked about. You seemed to already have what you always wanted.”

Avery smirked, “Don’t worry, I’m already working on it.” She then turned to Carson who looked confused. Ji then turned to the young billionaire. “Other than giving my blessing, I also came with the files your father asked me. He really likes to boss me around doesn’t he?”

Ji then handed Carson a folder. “You could’ve just sent me these” Carson replied with a cold tone. Ji smirked, “There, there, young Carson. Don’t get ahead of yourself just because people are already talking about you. Not everyone has good intentions, you know? Right, Avery?”

Avery smirked, “I think Carson is fully aware of who’s the bad guy.”

Ji laughed as he headed back to the door. “You two are perfect for each other. Congratulations” Without waiting for their response, he left.

Avery was able to take a deep breath. She didn’t know why but she was so scared that Carson might found out about the truth. She looked at him while he opened the file as if nothing happened. That was when she realized that for the second time in her life, she was scared of losing someone.

The first time was when her mother got sick. Since her dad left, Avery and her mom struggled. Avery decided to pour our her love to her mother so when she was struggling between life and death, Avery became selfish. She wished her mom to stay even if everything was complicated.

As she watched him work, she knew she had to do something. Maybe it was time for her to be happy. It was time to get back the love she deserved.

She immediately got her phone to dial a number. In just a few moments, it was answered by a familiar voice.

“Hello, Avery?”

“Remember what you told me last time?”

The other line paused as if the person was trying to remember the last time they conversed. She heard the man click his tongue as he recalled their discussion.

“What about it?” His tone was curious.

Avery took a deep breath. “I will do whatever it is you wanted in an exchange for that man.”

“Anything?”

“Anything.”
