Chapter 46: She Attempts To Take Him Back

Avery waited for his voice as her heart continued to beat fast. The other line was silent and she didn’t know what to do. “Carson?” She asked but the line was cut. She looked at her phone in confusion.

Then the sky rumbled, making her turn her head up. She smiled, “Thanks, mom. I get the sign.”

The following morning, Avery was planning her ultimate move to get Carson back. She couldn’t go there as she didn’t want the press to be bothering the both of them. Plus, the reports said she moved to another country and surely, the press would be staying by the company to watch Carson’s moves.

As she laid in bed, her eyes widen when a sudden idea popped in her head. She immediately got her phone to dial another number. “Hi! Do you deliver?”

Carson, on the other hand, was busy with work. He was so drunk last night that he couldn’t remember what he did. He couldn’t explain what he was feeling because it was the first time he felt anything like this.

“Do not do anything reckless, Carson. Everyone’s eyes is on you. Do not put a stain in our family name” His dad told him that morning. Carson sighed. His attention went to Avery’s desk. He shrugged the thought of her until someone knocked on the door.

“Come in” He replied. A tall young man entered with a bouquet of roses. “Hi! Deliveries for Mr. Carson Lee?” Carson raised an eyebrow because he wasn’t expecting anything today. He stood up and accepted the delivery.

“Can you tell me who sent these?” He asked as he looked at the young man. The delivery man pointed at the small card inside the bouquet. He didn’t say anything else and left. Still confused, Carson walked to his table to place the bouquet on the table.

He picked up the small card, opened it, and saw a small note. “Meet me? Let’s talk one last time. – A”. He lightly frowned, crumpled the card, and threw it away.

Avery waited for a call or text from Carson. She intentionally didn’t put the place and time to make him contact her, if he was willing to come. But the day ended and still no news from him.

Avery starred at her sad-looking dinner of potatoes and beans. She kept on checking her phone, hoping that a message would arrive. She leaned back and started surfing the net, hoping that she could get some answers as to why he didn’t respond aside from the most obvious thing.

Just then, her phone rang. But her excitement left the moment she saw that it was Alexander. “Hello?

“I was out of the country for a couple of days and when I came back, I heard the news. What happened? I thought we’ll get rid of the problem?”

Avery lightly smiled, “He got rid of me first.”

She can sense the worry in his tone. She didn’t expect that Alexander would be so involved in this. “What now?”

Avery looked at her beans. “Well, I am working on getting him back.”

If she could see Alexander now, she knew he was smiling. “That’s my girl. Do you need help?” Avery took a deep breath. She paused for a bit then a smile formed her lips. “I think you can.”

Avery wasn’t sure if her plan would work at all but she had to try. After all, her mom gave her the sign so she must be right. The next day, she wore her favorite branded dress. It was a straight dress that showed her back. She wore her sunglasses, straightened her hair, and applied a bit of make-up.

She was walking in an old country house. Her handbag moved along with her as people continued to stare at her. She stopped when she reached the door and the guards didn’t even bother asking who she was. It felt that she was expected.

Alexander, being one of the successful businessmen in the country, had connections around. The particular country house was owned by the Lees but those who are in their social class have access to it. With Alexander’s help, Avery was able to get a pass. Even though she was sure that people already know her after being linked to Carson.

Inside the country house, there was a small bar full of wine. There are tables as well but only a few are there today. Her heels continued to make noise as she walked to a specific table. She aimed at the table by the corner.

She stopped when she reached her goal. “What are you doing here?” Ms. Lee, Carson’s sister asked as she continued to use her laptop. She seemed to be working on a presentation. Avery didn’t care.

Avery smiled and sat in front of the busy woman. She removed her sunglasses and placed it on the table. “I came to talk.”

“There is nothing to talk about. We know everything already. Ji told us.”

“And you believe the man who wanted to take the position from Carson?”

Ms. Lee stopped to look at Avery. “We knew his intentions from the very start. He was open about getting that stupid position.”

“So it was alright to have someone like him in the company?”

Ms. Lee cleared her throat. “Is this the real reason you wanted to talk to me? To scold me for my father’s decisions. Look, I am not interested in any of those.”

“No. I came here to talk about Carson. I want him back and I need your help.”

Ms. Lee smirked, “And what makes you think I will help you? You’re a gold digger.” Avery smiled, “Because you clearly said on the day we met that you care about Carson’s happiness and we both know he was happy with me. Otherwise, he wouldn’t call me last night while he was drunk.”

Ms. Lee’s eyes widen while Avery was sure that this was her win.
