Krystal woke up earlier than she usually did on a weekend. It was Andrew’s birthday today and she hoped everything goes according to the plans she had.

She had convinced Rita for her to be a part of the planning and Rita had agreed.

Andrew robbed his eyes with the back of his hands. Yawning, he adjusted himself on the bed and the first thing his eyes caught was Krystal standing next to him.

“Happy birthday!!” She said, with a big smile on her face.

He smiled looking at her in disbelief. He never thought that she would know.

“Now, make a wish,” she said handing him the slice of cake on the plate which had a candle on top of it.

He blew out the candle and made a wish. He ate a bit from the cake and he smiled.

“Who told you?” He asked.

“Rita,”

“I see you two are getting along well,” he said with a smile. “That’s nice,” he added.

Even though Krystal didn’t think everything was now okay between she and Rita, she knew it was better and they hadn’t had any quarrels in a while. Maybe Andrew was right and they were getting along, she thought.

“Thank you for the cake. It’s amazing,” he said.

“You’re welcome,” she said.

“That’s not all. I still have gifts,” she said, walking towards the drawer by the side of her bed.

She brought out the gifts she had bought from the mall and handed it over to him.

“Here, I hope you like it,” she said and he received them from her.

“Thank you,” he said as he looked through them with a smile.

“I don’t know if you would like this,” Krystal said, bringing out the hand made card from behind where she had kept it.

“What’s it?” He asked.

She handed him the card and he took it from her happily.

He smiled as he read through it.

“This is unique,” he said.

“I knew you might not like it, Rita said the same too,” she said, sitting on the bed.

“No, no!! That’s completely opposite from what I feel. I love it.”

“Are you sure or you’re just saying it cause you know I put in a lot of work in it, because the truth is I did,” she said and he laughed.

“I really do. It can pass as the best gift I have ever received,” he said.

“Now you’re just saying it,” she said and hit him playfully on the hands. He laughed.

“I am serious. No one has actually ever made something just for me. This was well thought out and it’s beautiful too. Thank you,” he said and she smiled.

His phone started to ring. He checked the caller ID and it was his mum.

“Hey mum.”

“Happy birthday love!!”

“Thank you mum.”

“How is Paris?” He asked.

“Amazing, I love it here and it’s the best thing ever. Thank you for convincing me to go,” she said and Andrew smiled.

“I and the girls are thinking of going to Switzerland next week.”

“Mum, you deserve all of it. Have the best time,” he said.

“How is Krystal?”

“She is fine mum.”

“Give her a kiss for me,” she said and he smiled.

“I will mum,” he said

“Love you dear.”

“Was that mum?” Krystal said. It was the first time she was calling Caro mum.

“Yes, it was,” he replied.

“She asked that I give you a kiss for her,” he added and she laughed.

“I really like her,” Krystal said.

“She likes you a lot too,” Andrew said.

Before he could say anything else, he heard his phone ring and this time it was Fred, his dad’s friend.

“Hello, happy birthday,” he said.

“I need you in the office today.”

“But I took today off.”

“It’s urgent matter. Please, you know I wouldn’t ask you if I didn’t need you,” he said.

Krystal and Rita had told Fred to help them get Andrew out of the house and that was the only way they were going to be able to plan the surprise.

“Alright, alright I will be there. Let me just shower real quick.”

“I promise it won’t take your time,” he said.

“Alright.”

When the call ended, Andrew turned to face Krystal. He stood from where he was sitting.

“Fred wants me at the office today.”

“I thought you said it was your day off.”

“Apparently now it’s not. Hopefully it all doesn’t take too long,” he said and Krystal smiled at the fact that it seemed that their plan had worked.

“Alright then.”

After about half an hour,Andrew left the house. Krystal knew that they needed to start work immediately so she went down to meet Rita and realized that she already started with the decorations.

“Here is the guest list,” Rita said, handing over the paper to Krystal.

“There is a guest list? You didn’t tell me.”

“I didn’t know I had to run everything by you.”

“Do I at least have the chance of inviting someone?” She asked. She had told Trisha some days ago that she could come and wouldn’t want her to be embarrassed.

“It’s fine. Anything you want to do.”

“Where is the cake?” She asked.

“I am going to get it now,” Krystal said.

“Please make it on time.”

Krystal figured Rita didn’t want her to be in the way of whatever she was doing so she went upstairs to shower and get ready to pick up the cake.

She got done in a few minutes. Picked up the car keys and drove to the cake shop.

She sent a text to Trisha to meet her up there so they could go back home together. She didn’t want to be left alone with Rita before the party and she knew that Trisha would keep her company.

She got to the shop after a few minutes.

“Hello, I am here to pickup a cake order,” Krystal said to the lady at the front desk.

“What’s your name please and the order?”

“Krystal and it’s a vanilla and red velvet 3 layers cake.”

The girl checked the computer in front of her.

“I am sorry but you would have to wait a few minutes for your order,” she said.

“How many minutes please?” She asked.

“About 30 minutes.”

“Alright.”

Krystal went to sit on their waiting chair. She wondered why it was taking them time as she did not just order the cake.

She sat and her phone beeped. It was Trisha, telling her she was going to be at the cake shop in a few minutes.

After a few minutes, Trisha walked through the door.

“Hey girl,” Trisha said and she and Krystal hugged.

“What’s keeping you?” Trisha asked.

“Apparently they are not done with the cake.”

“Didn’t you order a few days back?”

“Yes, I did,” she said.

“So why is it not ready.”

As Andrew went to work, he couldn’t let go of Krystal’s nice gesture earlier that morning from his head.

He thought about how sweet she was and how he would have never thought she would be that way.

No one had ever done what she did for him and it was the sweetest thing ever but at that moment he thought it was just the gift and didn’t realize it was something more.

He got to the office after a few minutes. When he got in, the whole staff had stood and sang a happy birthday song for him.

“Thank you,” he said with a smile and walked towards his office.

Fred got in after a few minutes.

“What is it I have to attend to?” He asked.

Fred had thought of the best thing to tell him and had finally found the perfect excuse.

“I need you to sign some documents for authorization,” he said.

“Where are they?” He asked.

Fred dropped them on his table.

“These could have waited till tomorrow though,” he said signing them.

“The production team said it’s needed today, sorry.”

“The cake is ready,” the woman said and both Krystal and Trisha walked up to collect it.

They drove home later and after a few minutes they were back home.

Rita was almost done with the decorations.

“This is beautiful Rita,” Krystal said, entering the living room with the cake.

“I will drop this in the kitchen,” Krystal said and then Trisha walked up to were Rita was.

“Hello,” Trisha said.

Rita looked up from what she had been doing.

“I know you,” Rita said.

“Didn’t we go to same high school?”

“Yeah, we did,” Trisha said.

“You were the one who had a big crush on my brother and even wrote a letter that the teacher read in front of the whole class,” Rita said.

“You’re mistaken, that’s not me,” Trisha lied. She didn’t want Krystal to know about that and she didn’t even have a reason why.

“It was you. I have a sharp memory of things. You used to wear these huge glasses and braces,” Rita continued.

“You’ve cleaned up fine, I won’t lie,” Rita added and before she could say anything else, the bell rang.

“The guests are here,” Rita said excitedly and moved towards the door.

Trisha was definitely saved by the bell.

“What we’re you and Rita talking about,” Krystal said with a smile.

“It’s nothing. Just high school stuff,” she said.

“You really need to tell me how Andrew was in high school someday. I want to hear everything,” she said.

Trisha forced a smile “sure”

The guests started to trope in and Krystal had something’s to do. She made sure everyone was okay and set because Fred had called that Andrew had just left the office.

“I think Andrew is going to be here in a few,” Krystal said to Rita.

“Is everything ready?” She asked.

“Yes, it is,” Rita replied.

When Krystal heard the sound of Andrew’s car outside. She immediately put off the light

“Places people,” Rita said.

Some minutes later, Andrew entered and was wondering why the lights were off when Krystal suddenly put them on.

“Surprise” everyone said in unison.

Andrew was truly surprised and Krystal smiled at him from where she stood with Rita. Andrew knew it was done by both of them.

“Thank you everyone,” Andrew said.

“Now let’s celebrate,” Krystal said in a loud tone.

Rita walked towards Andrew with a girl by her side.

“Hey.”

“Brittney!” Andrew said surprised.

“Is that brittney,” Trisha said, looking in the direction of Andrew. Krystal turned in the same direction wondering what Trisha was talking about.

“Who is Brittney?” Krystal asked Trisha.
