Roopa was Hurt
Preetam PoV:
"Shall we go to a pub?" Roopa asked giving me a shock.
"Did you visit the pub anytime?" I asked.
Roopa was from a village. Usually, in her village, this pub culture was treated as a sin. When I remembered her native place, I recalled the incident when I saw her in her area when she tried to frighten a bridegroom who came to see her. Roopa mistook me for the bridegroom, and when I said it's not me, she got confused. Later, I helped her to cancel that match, and she thanked me.
But the reason behind cancelling that alliance was I fell in love with her long back which she didn't know. I smiled, remembering the day when I saw her for the first time.
"Preetam, I never visited Pub. I have a fantasy of visiting it at least once with my life partner. However, it's completely upto you. If you don't like such things, I never talk about it again. But please don't be angry with me again. You are frightening me a lot these days," Roopa said as if she was irritated with my anger.
I promised myself never to frighten her again with my anger.
I cupped her cute innocent lovely face. I felt fortunate to get such a beautiful wife. I didn't marry her seeing her beauty; I fell for her character and kindness. However, I was scared of those qualities in her after marriage. I was not against her profession. But, I was worried about her safety. I sighed as I couldn't make Roopa understand this.
What if something happens to her? What if her team has a traitor? These questions bothered me a lot.
I couldn't imagine missing her. I should save her at any cost. I remembered Swecha and Anirudh. I lost them because of the traitors who were Indians and not those people who came into our nation illegally.
"Sweetheart, I am sorry for frightening you with my anger. I won't do it again. I want your smile to stay on your face forever. I have no problem with your profession, but please be careful and don't trust anyone. I will support you in handling your profession and family life. Let's do one thing. If anything is important to deal with our family, whoever is free they should handle it. I mean, if you are busy with work, I would take care of it. If I have anything important in the office, you should take care of it. Let's handle it together and help each other," I said, and Roopa looked at me.
"Preetam, are you saying this? Did you accept my profession heartfully?" Roopa asked, surprised by my words. Roopa hugged me and kissed on my cheek.
"Thank you so much, Preetam. It means a lot to me," Roopa said with happy tears.
Her happiness made me more happy. We had dinner, and she lay in bed cuddling me. I kissed her forehead softly. I decided not to hurt her anymore because I love her. When Roopa had happiness in her profession, I didn't want to make that happiness away from her. I promised myself to protect her and my family forever from every danger.
"Roopa, tomorrow, in the evening, let's go for a pub," I said.
"No! Tomorrow we are leaving for our home," Roopa said.
"What? Why? Aren't you on leave tomorrow too? Let's go home tomorrow night. So that, day after tomorrow, we can leave to our work," I said.
"No! Please, let's go home tomorrow morning itself. We shall go to the pub some other day, please," Roopa said.
"But why?" I asked.
"Please, Preetam!"
"Okay! Let's go home tomorrow morning. But we can go to the pub in the evening from home too," I said as I wanted to fulfil her wish.
"Let's go some other day to the pub. Forget about it for now," Roopa said excitedly.
I didn't know why was Roopa excited to go home.
"Okay!" I said.
"Preetam, shall I visit my maternal home once tomorrow? Only if that's okay with you," Roopa asked me hesitantly.
"Do you want to visit your parents? Did you forgive them?" I asked, feeling happy about her decision.
"Yes, I want to visit them tomorrow," Roopa said.
"Sure! We shall go tomorrow," I said.
In the next morning, I woke up and Roopa already packed the luggage.
"Is it compulsory to go home today?" I asked her.
I wanted to spend with her this day too. Every moment I spend with her makes me feel divine. Stubborn Roopa never listens to me.
"Please, Preetam! If you want, we shall come here again to spend the weekend. But, let's go home today."
I knew well that Roopa wouldn't come here again, because she becomes busy as soon as she joins in her duty.
I calmly followed her home. Mom and dad also returned home by that day afternoon. In the evening, Roopa took all of us to a hotel. She took us to a suite.
We were shocked by looking at the decoration of the hotel room. Roopa kept my photos and mom's photos wishing "Happy Mother's Day".
Oh, it's Mother's Day today, I thought.
Shut! Why did Roopa arrange all this without telling me at least once? I was worried about mom's reaction.
Mom's eyes had tears by then. Mom remembered the past.
"Happy Mother's Day aunty!" Roopa said, gifting a sari to mom.
"Roopa, who told you to arrange all this? Whom did you ask before doing all this?" Mom shouted at Roopa and threw the sari away on the floor.
Roopa's eyes filled with tears, with the mom's reaction.
"Mom, Roopa doesn't know our past," I said to convince mom.
Roopa PoV:
I didn't understand what happened. I arranged a surprise to celebrate Mother's Day to make aunty and Preetam happy. But, aunty is so angry at me. But why?
"Mom, she doesn't know our past," Preetam said to aunty.
I didn't get about what they were talking.
"Preetam, stop supporting your wife every time. Roopa is our daughter in law. She must know everything about our family. She should think twice before doing anything," aunty said seriously.
"Mom, we never gave any chance for Roopa to know about us. She needs time," Preetam said.
"Preetam, let's go to our home. We can talk there," the uncle said, and we reached the home.
I observed the tears of aunt and uncle in the car. As soon as we reached home, aunt went off to her room. I tried talking to aunty, but Preetam stopped me.
"Roopa, go to our room. I will come after talking to mom" Preetam said strictly.
"But Preetam, why were you upset seeing the arrangements for Mother's Day?" I asked.
"I will tell you everything later. Please, don't worry. Go to our room. I will come soon," Preetam said, and I went to my room.
Whenever one problem solves, another arises. Preetam criticised my role as a wife, and that day aunty too questioned my role as a daughter in law. I felt they were right; I couldn't be a good daughter, daughter in law or wife. I focused on my duty more than on my family. I didn't know anything about Preetam or his family. I never took the time to know about them. Tears occupied my eyes. I thought to myself.
Can I be a good wife and daughter in law ever in my life? If I become a mom, even my children would blame me saying I am not a good mother. I failed in establishing strong bonding with my family. I am a good team leader as my team never failed in any mission. But, in my family life, I am an utter failure. I failed in expressing my love towards Preetam and his family. I failed in understanding them.
I cursed myself for being the worst and a busy bee wife and daughter in law. I hated myself.
