Success turned into a tragedy
Roopa PoV:
Being an IB Officer, I was always concerned about my mother land's safety. If Mitra and Preetam were not criminals and fighting for India, I was ready to support them.
I would contact the higher authorities to help them and get justice. But I would not do anything that was harmful to my nation.
"Mr Nanda Kishore, you can do whatever you want. This is Roopa. Threats can't affect my decision," I said.
"Roopa, please help Mitra. He is not a culprit. I know the way they chose to get justice is wrong, but not their motive. Please help them," Nandu said again.
I sensed Nandu's tears in his choked tone. Sanjana looked at me.
"Nandu, I will do whatever is right. Don't worry. Please relax. As a team, we could succeed, but fighting among us, makes us and our nation to fail. If you trust me, let me handle this in my way," I said.
I called Preetam to come to my office. I told Sanjana to bring Preetam to the room where we kept Mitra and went to meet Mitra. Preetam came and shocked seeing Mitra in custody. I asked Nandu to lock the door.
"Preetam, take your seat," I said in my IPS strict tone.
"So, did you call me for interrogation?" Preetam said and sat on the chair.
"I didn't call you for interrogation. I called you as an ex-army man. Mr Preetam and Mr Mitra, you may not trust the department, but if you have trust in me, tell me the truth. The one who fought for the nation and almost sacrificed the life can never become a threat to our nation. Tell me how can I help you to get the designs of the weapon designed by you," I said.
"Roopa, we trust you. But you alone can't help us as it's a big risk for your job," Mitra said.
"I chose this job as it gives me the opportunity to save our nation. Our nation is more important to me than this job. To save our India, I am ready to sacrifice my job, my life or anything else," I said.
"But I am not ready to put your life at risk for anything. I already lost my brother, Swecha and my best friend. I am not ready to sacrifice anyone else from my family for this nation. I love you, Roopa," Preetam said.
"Preetam, please think as the Indian Army Major. You are talking about risk. My job is always risky. Anytime anything can happen to me. But, if those designs fall into the hands of nations like Pakistan or any rival nation, it would harm our India. Please think about our nation than family. I am always ready to give up on my life if it would save the lives of many," I said.
Preetam agreed finally. I took permission from the Prime Minister to attack the traitors and internal enemies of our nation. I ordered my team to get ready for the attack. We planned to attack the traitors along with Mitra and Preetam.
We took the entire hotel where the culprits stayed, into our custody without the notice of those criminals. We sent all the customers out of the hotel. Finally, we knocked on the door of those criminals. They opened the door, and I kicked the person immediately giving him no chance to attack.
Then, we went into the room pointing revolvers towards them. We saw the necessary file on the bed in the room and took them. We arrested the criminals. However, when we entered outside the hotel to reach the vehicle, those criminals tried to escape. There are six people in total. Preetam, Nandu, Mitra, Sanju, Prakash and I started fighting against them.
During the fight, I shot one of them. The fight went on, and Nandu got shot in the shoulder as one of the criminal shot him. Another bullet was shot into the Nandu's chest, making us shocked.
"Sanju, take him to the hospital" I shouted at Sanjana who was almost lost seeing Nandu succumbed to the bullet.
"Make it fast, Sanju," I said, and Sanju left with Nandu.
Preetam and Mitra were fighting. Mitra held captive by one of the criminals, and he kept a revolver to Mitra's temple.
"Hand over the file of weapon designs or I will kill Mitra," that idiot threatened us.
"Drop the revolver or I will shoot you," I warned.
I saw Preetam approaching the criminal from the backside. He signalled me to divert the concentration of the criminal while Prakash was fighting with criminals and shot one of them. I took the file from my vehicle.
"I will give the file, leave him," I said.
"Roopa, No. It's related to the safety of our nation. My life is not that more important than our nation," Mitra said, unaware of our plan.
While the criminal concentrated on my moves, Preetam attacked him. Mitra escaped from his grip. Preetam punched him making him fall onto the ground. Mitra and I had attacked other criminals.
"You didn't deserve to live. Being an Indian and an army man, you became a threat to the nation. People like you are the real reason for terrorist attacks on our nation. No outsider can enter our nation without the help of internal terrorists like you," Preetam said to the one who tried to shoot Mitra.
"Preetam, no please leave me. I will change. We are good friends; please remember that once," that criminal said.
"Friends? Didn't you remember killing our friend Sham and his wife Chitra for the design of the weapon? This is a tribute to them. Unless I kill you, their soul will not rest in peace," Preetam said and killed him.
Mitra killed another traitor. I saw a criminal approaching Preetam.
"Preetam, down!" I shouted, and Preetam bent down.
I shot the bullet to kill that criminal. Suddenly, Preetam got up and shot a criminal approaching me from behind. I turned back and then looked at Preetam only to find him in blood as bullet I shot went into his chest as Preetam got up to save me. Mitra shot that criminal who approached Preetam and shocked seeing Preetam.
"Preetam!" I shouted and went to him.
"Preetam, open your eyes. Preetam, please open your eyes," I said, patting on his cheeks. I couldn't imagine my life without Preetam. I love Preetam. Preetam is my everything and seeing him in a pool of blood killed me. Preetam opened his eyes. I felt happy, but it didn't stay longer.
"I love you, Roopa. Thank you for trusting me even after listening to my conversation with Mitra. Take care of mom and dad, if anything happens to me," Preetam said. He lost his consciousness again.
"Preetam!" I shouted at the top of my lungs.
Mitra checked his heartbeat.
"Roopa, he is still alive. Let's move him to the hospital soon," Mitra said, and we shifted him to a hospital.
"Doctor, how is he?" I asked the doctor.
"We can't say anything, madam. His condition is critical, and he became unconscious. The senior doctor is treating him. Let's hope for the best," the doctor said.
I was shocked. My eyes filled with tears. I felt a pain in my heart, and my breathing became difficult. Everything went blur before me. My head started spinning. Within a few minutes, everything became blank before me.
