Unexpected Challenge to Roopa
Roopa PoV:
I called my team and informed saying that Mitra planned for a blast hiding Preetam's name. I felt to talk to him after mom's birthday. I expected Preetam might have a reason for developing hatred towards the nation. As a son and husband, Preetam was good. He had humanity. I thought if I talk to him, I could convince him and turn him into an approver. So that he might help us to catch the culprits and I could save him.
"Roopa, are you ok? Is anything bothering you, baby?" Preetam said, patting on my shoulder.
I looked at him with tears.
"Hey, what happened to you? Why are you crying, darling?" Preetam asked, and I cried hugging him tightly.
"Roopa, look at me, tell me why are you crying? Did anyone say anything to you?" Preetam asked.
"I love you. I love you so much, Preetam. I don't want to miss you," I said.
"I love you too, sweety. Why do you think that you will miss me?"
"I don't know. I am scared of losing you," I said.
Preetam wiped my tears and kissed on my forehead.
"Nothing has the power to separate us, sweety. Stop crying and give me your heartwarming smile," Preetam said kissing on my forehead.
I smiled, hugging him. But, a war was going on in my mind with the thoughts that support Preetam and against Preetam.
Is he a terrorist? Is it the reason behind Preetam hating my profession? No, Preetam used to talk about traitors inside the nation. It means he might not be a traitor. Then why did he speak to Mitra?
I had informed about that bomb blast plan of Mitra to the department. So, they stopped it. I stayed calm and behaved normally without hurting Preetam.
I thought to find out about Mitra first. What if Preetam is trying to save me as he was scared about me and my profession a lot?
No, I shouldn't make a mistake without knowing the full details. Words spoken couldn't be taken back. I didn't want to hurt Preetam and break his heart with my words. I decided to be careful.
Preetam kissed on my forehead.
"That's better, keep smiling all the time. Roopa, your smile brightens up our house. Today is mom's birthday. If you cry like this, mom will get upset worrying about you. So please don't cry and tell me whatever is your problem. I will help you to become normal."
"I trust you Preetam. I know you are always with me," I said.
We prepared a cake and lunch together. Mom and dad returned by lunchtime after spending some time together. I admired their bonding a lot. In my maternal home, mom was scared of dad and bhabhi scared of bhaiya. But here mom and dad (Preetam's parents) had always been good friends. Because of their brought up, Preetam gave freedom to me and treated me as his friend. However, if Preetam gets angry, I couldn't bear him. If I get angry, Preetam too stays calm. So I didn't feel it as a problem. We celebrated a birthday together. I messaged Nandu to know about Mitra. Nandu said they arrested him.
The next day, I went to my office and met Mitra.
"Good morning, Mrs Roopa Preetam. How are you?" Mitra asked as if I was his friend.
"Or should I call you as Mitra's fiance?" Mitra grinned irritating me.
"You have no right to call me by any name," I said as calmly as possible.
"Mr Nandakishore, you can start the interrogation," I ordered and went to my cabin.
I called Sanjana to my cabin.
"Sanjana, I want you to enquiry full details about Preetam. I want it within one hour," I passed the order to Sanjana.
"What? Preetam is your husband. You should have inquired about him before the marriage. If you inquire about Preetam and know his affairs now, it would be of no use," Sanjana said trying to tease me.
"Stop it, Ms. Sanjana. I need Preetam's details immediately. This is an order. Learn how to talk with your higher officer," I said rudely as my mood was horrible.
"Roopa!" Sanjana said, shocked by my reaction.
Usually, only before higher authority and others, Sanjana and I behave formally. When we were alone, we were good friends because Nandu and Sanjana were my friends from my college days.
"I will report within one hour, madam," Sanjana said and went off from my cabin.
Sanjana returned after one hour.
"Madam, here are the details you asked for," Sanjana said, submitting the file to me.
"Take a seat," I said to Sanjana.
Sanjana sat silently showing her anger.
"Sorry Sanju, my mood was not good," I apologised to her.
"What happened to you, Roopa?" Sanjana asked me with concern leaving her anger aside.
Sanjana and Nandu were close to my heart. We had no secrets between us, and we supported each other whenever and wherever required. I shared about Preetam with Sanjana to seek her advice as a friend. Sanjana thought for a while.
"Don't worry, Roopa. I don't think Preetam will involve in anti-national activities. Open the file and check his details once. You will understand about him more," Sanjana said.
I opened the file and saw Preetam in the uniform of a Major in the Indian Army. I looked at Sanjana surprised.
"Yes Roopa, Preetam is an ex-army man," Sanjana said.
"Even Mitra is an ex-army man," Nandu said coming into my cabin.
"What?" Sanjana and I said simultaneously.
"Yes, Mitra is an ex-army man and worked with Preetam. They both were good friends. Before three years, in the war with Pakistan, Preetam and Mitra fought for India. We won the war, but missed the blueprint for the design of a weapon designed by Preetam and Mitra together. That was a great weapon which has the power to destroy any enemy once if it's made as a weapon. They both filed a case, but because of a few traitors Preetam, Mitra and their team were blamed as traitors and removed from their duties. Preetam's brother Anirudh, cousin Swecha and one of their common friends were killed in a bomb blast which was planned to kill the whole family of Preetam. Later, they proved their innocence and released from the jail. But, they didn't join with the Army though the Indian Government invited them into the services again. Mitra flew to Thailand after that and Preetam took over his family business. But still, revenge is alive and their plan too."
"How do you know this?" I asked Nandu suspiciously.
"Because I am Mitra's brother and I knew everything. But Roopa, I am sure Mitra and Preetam never harm our nation. Please free Mitra. Only you can do it," Nandu said.
I was shocked knowing the truth about Preetam, Mitra and especially about Nandu.
"Nandu, what are you talking? How can I free Mitra after arresting him for involving in anti-national activities? I can't go against the rules Mr NandaKishore," I said sternly.
"Why didn't you arrest Preetam when you knew he too involved in this?" Nandu questioned me.
"There is no proof against Preetam," I said.
"Roopa, you are betraying yourself. No proof is needed when your heart knew it. If you couldn't arrest Preetam, free Mitra too. Otherwise, I would inform Preetam's role in this case to our higher authorities," Nandu tried to blackmail me.
I smiled at Nandu. I had planned already what to do and how to deal with this case, and save my nation. I could even sacrifice my life for India, but not the safety of my country for any relationship.
