What's Mine

*Rowan*

My car pulls to a stop about a quarter mile before we reach the bridge. “What the fuck are we doing?” I ask my driver.
“There’s a skirmish going on up ahead, Alpha,” he replies. “They said to stay back.”
I swear again and hop out of the vehicle, ready to shift and fight at a moment’s notice if I need to. Ahead of me, I hear shouting and rush ahead. I see a few scattered vehicles and see some of my wolves running to the scene.
It doesn’t take me long to get there, even though I’ve stayed in my human form. What I see a few hundred yards this side of the bridge is an angry young man in his human form wearing a pair of shorts, shouting at my guards who are trying to contain him, a crying girl wearing an ill-fitting T-shirt that hits above her knees, and another man who stands stark still with his hands in the grips of a couple of my guys.
On the ground lies a black wolf, and the moment I see her, I rush forward. “What happened to Hezzlie?” I demand of my people.
“She just collapsed,” one of them, Collin, replies. “We’re trying to get her loaded into a vehicle to transport her, Alpha, but this prick keeps fighting us.”
“I don’t know what you did to her!” the young man shouts. “Get the fuck away from my sister!” He manages to get one arm free, but he is snatched back by my guards.
So this is Prince Aiden. Interesting. “It’s all right,” I tell him, holding both of my hands up in an attempt to calm him. “We’ll get her home and get her some medical attention.”
Aiden blinks a few times and seems to snap out of whatever state-of-mind he’s been in. “You’re Rowan.” It’s not a question. I nod. “She used her powers to float us all over here, and then she collapsed. Is she breathing?”
I don’t know what he means by powers and can’t ask right now. His same question has been on my mind since I saw that it was Hezzlie on the ground, but the fact that no one around her is panicked, and the realization that I can see her side moving slightly with each inhale and exhale, has let me know all along that she’s not dead. “She’s breathing,” I tell him, and one of my men on the ground next to her agrees.
With that, Aiden calms down slightly. “We’re here to help you,” he tells me. “I’m Aiden Darksky. This is Abigail Plume, from Rainfall pack and my friend Tony Ross who didn’t really want to get all mixed up in this, but here he is.”
I look at Abigail, and she lifts her eyes slightly, but she’s still crying. Tony only blinks. “You’re welcome to come to Moonstryker Mansion, and we’ll see what we can do to keep you and your families safe,” I tell the two captives who are probably rethinking this entire situation. They acknowledge my statement but don’t respond. I turn back to Aiden. “You, on the other hand, I can’t trust.”
“I know,” he says, his chin raised slightly in defiance. “I don’t blame you. But I assure you, I want to help you kill my father. So does Hezzlie.”
Since I can’t trust him, I can’t make any remarks about that at the moment. “Get Hezzlie to the house so James can check her over,” I tell Collin. “Put the other three in separate vehicles and drive them home.”
“I want to stay with Hezzlie,” Abigail sobs. “Please?”
I look at the redhead for a moment. She’s genuinely shook up. I nod and then turn around, almost running into Dean who is rushing toward me. “What the fuck is going on?” he asks. Peering over my shoulder, he asks, “Is that Hez?”
I don’t want to chastise my Beta for being a day late and a dollar short in front of everyone, so I nod. “It’s her. I’m having her moved back to the house to see James. Where is he?”
“I don’t know,” Dean admits. We move aside so that the guards can move Hezzlie into a nearby vehicle. “Wilma woke me up. She said you left the house in a flurry.”
“Well, I had a feeling something was going on, and I got word from some of the guards on our side of the bridge that something weird was happening over there, so I sent warriors ahead and then came myself. But I don’t think this is over yet.” I turn to see dozens of glowing eyes on the other side of the bridge, and I’m sure Darksky is trying to decide whether or not to come after his children. I’ve called in every available warrior–but they’re not all stationed on the bridge. I know there are other ways to get over here from his lands, though they’re more difficult than crossing the bridge. I wish I could burn it down.
By the time Hezzlie is loaded into an SUV with Abigail, I can see that she’s moving more. I’m a little less worried about her. But her brother did mention some sort of powers, and I’m eager to find out what he meant by that.
It’ll have to wait, though. Howling begins on the other side of the bridge, and I know what’s going to happen next. The vehicles turn and take off toward the house. I’ll let them go without me. A fight is about to break out, and I will be a part of it. It’s been far too long since I had the chance to sink my fangs into the flesh and blood of my enemies, and I’m ready to let my wolf fly over there and tear into those bastards.
I hope the asshole who slit me open is there and I can leave him another scar on the other side of his face to match the one I gave him last time.
Dean is ready for a fight, too. We quickly strip out of our clothes and leap into the air, letting our wolves take over before our paws even hit the road. Then, I give the order. We’re not going to stand around and wait for Darksky to bring the fight to us. We rush across the bridge, Dean and I side by side as we bear down on the enemy.
If those assholes think they’re coming to Moonstryker territory to get my mate back, they’ve got another fucking thing coming.
