What I Did to Your Daughter
*Rowan*
I’m in my office, but where I really want to be is in Hezzlie’s room with her. I know she’s awake now. It’s hard to explain how, exactly. It’s just like a sense of her mind working through our link. But I have a lot of work to do, what with the battles and all, so I need to be in here–not in there with her.
After all, if she is still in bed, I’ll want to climb in with her, and I can’t spend my every waking moment fucking her–even though that’s exactly what I want.
Still, we lost some warriors in the battle, and that always means paperwork. It’s never a happy part of the job. Thanks to Darksky, this isn’t the first time I’ve had to do it, and I have a good feeling it won’t be the last.
I’m in the middle of writing up a report on one of my best men who lost his life protecting one of his friends when my phone rings. I glance over it and see the light is on and freeze.
How many years did I sit here begging the Moon Goddess to have Solomon call me so that we could sort out a way to get my sister back? How many times did I cringe when that phone rang unexpectedly and the light came on, hoping it wasn’t news that he’d done something horrible to her? Well, this time, I’m in the cat-bird seat, as they say. I have both of his children.
And one of them is clearly powerful enough to destroy his entire kingdom if she can figure out how to harness the power of the moonstones beneath me.
I wait for the phone to stop ringing and start ringing again. While it’s blaring, I get a mind-link message from Wima, confused. ‘I thought you were in your office, Alpha.’
‘I am. I’ll answer it in a minute,’ I assure her.
‘Yes, Alpha.’
She doesn’t need to know why I’m toying with Darksky. I have a feeling that, when I do pick up the ringer, it won’t be his voice on the other end anyway, which will only piss me off more.
Finally, after the second set of rings, I wait for the fourth ring and pick it up. “What?”
“Hold for King Solomon.”
“No.”
I drop the receiver back into the cradle. If that motherfucker wants to talk to me, he can call me himself.
A few moments later, the phone rings again, and I start my game all over until I can’t even handle the sound of it anymore. “What?”
“Rowan?”
It’s Darksky himself. “That’s Alpha King Rowan to you, asshole,” I tell him. “What the fuck do you want?”
He growls at me, and I’m tempted to hang up again. “You have my children, you bastard, and I want them back. Now.”
“Your children came here of their own accord,” I remind him. “Which they are allowed to do so long as I allow them in. You, however, sent your fucking warriors to attack mine unprovoked–again.”
“That’s funny. I had to clear an awful lot of my own men’s bodies from our soil,” he snarls.
I scoff. “What was I supposed to do, you spineless prick? Wait until they came into my bedroom again? That would’ve been awkward for you since the first thing I did when she arrived was fuck your daughter.” I can’t help myself.
“You wouldn’t dare!” He acts as if he gives a damn about Hezzlie when all of us know he only wants her because he knows she has powers now. I know now that he accepted her to begin with because he was hoping she was part witch, that and it was the perfect excuse to send Mara over here to kill us. He never does anything that doesn’t somehow benefit him.
“Oh, I dared.” I laugh in the most evil way I know how. “She took it like a champ, too. I probably wasn’t her first fuck, but obviously, I’m the largest.”
“You are an absolute asshole!” he shouts.
“Nah, I came in the front door, though it was tight enough that it could’ve been a rear entry.”
“Stop talking about fucking my daughter right now, or so help me–”
“You’ll what, Solomon? I believe you just told me that I have something you want. Do you have something you think I might be interested in?” My tone is calm, bordering on disinterest.
“Do you want me to attack your kingdom full force?” He seems to think that he can frighten me by flexing his muscle. “We can invade and kill all of your women and children. I’ll slay them all where they sleep!”
“The same way you programmed my sister to kill our mother?” I grit my teeth, trying not to let him know just how unbelievably angry I am that he’s trying to threaten me now.
“Precisely.” That gets a maniacal chuckle out of him. “That’s exactly what I’ll do.”
“No you won’t,” I tell him. “You won’t because you can’t. If you really thought that my army was so easily overrun, you would’ve done that years ago. You know that we are stronger than you. That’s why you couldn’t get over here last night, and we had to open our gates and kill your men where they stood.”
He’s quiet for a long moment. “I want my son back,” he snarls. “At the very least. You have no reason to keep him. Return him to me, and we’ll go back to a peaceful co-existence.”
“Bullshit,” I say, leaning forward on my desk. “I understand you want Aiden, but he doesn’t want you, and you know that. He’s sworn allegiance to my kingdom–until you’re dead, at least, which is coming soon. Not to mention I know you know that your fucking wizard was wrong about your daughter. I’m sure that Zeb told you what happened when he tried to stop her from escaping and again on the bridge, so don’t try to bullshit me into thinking that you don’t want her because I know that you do. The only problem is, she’s on my side now, too, you meat headed buffoon, and the next time you see her, it’ll be a few seconds before a colossal blast of power washes over you, and you feel your skin melting from your bones. Do not call me again. I will see you on the battlefield. If you think you’re ready, then bring it on, otherwise, I’ll bring it to you. I’m going to have so much fun fucking your daughter on your throne, you asshole!” I slam the phone down and look up to see Hezzlie standing right inside my office door, her eyes wide in shock.
“Oh, fuck.”
