Chapter 11 - A night with Luke?

“Where have you been? We missed you at the party” Gwen says as she placed a bottle of beer before Wren Austin. The blonde rolled her eyes in exasperation. Giovanni O’Connell’s party has been the only thing the entire town talked about and she was fed up with having to hear it.
The rumour that went through the town was, that Giovanni O’Connell had not invited her because he didn’t want anything to do with her. he didn’t want to be in the same room as her knowing fully well that she had slept with almost half of the men in Craigsburg.
By the way, they couldn’t have been further from the truth. Giovanni O’Connell had reached out to her through SMS, extending the invitation to her, but she had ignored it. Wren Austin wanted nothing more than to rub it in their face that she didn’t attend the party because she didn’t want to, and not because of whatever they were thinking.
Of course, she knew better than to get into that.
“Yeah, didn’t feel like it. I’m trying to stay as far away from him as possible. Until he leaves” Wren Austin replied unbothered.
“Yeah, good luck with that” Gwen iterated with sarcasm as she turned to get herself a drink.
Wren Austin furrowed her brows in confusion at her friend’s statement.
“Why do you have to say it so… negatively?” Wren furrowed her brows as she retorted.
The bottle Gwen took out for herself for served to another person, and as she took off the cap, she replied to Wren’s question.
“I’m just saying. You shouldn’t hold your breath. From here I heard at the party, he might be here for a while”
Wren felt something in her tighten. She knew her life wouldn’t go back to normal unless he left Craigsburg, and right now, listening to Gwen, she understood that her life wouldn’t be normal for another long, long time.
Not that it has for the past six years.
“Fuck me” she cursed under her breath.
Wren Austin and Gwen engaged in a conversation. Wren mostly listen while the other lady blabbed on about the party, giving her every juicy detail she missed. Listening to Gwen talk, it was almost as if the blonde was psychically present.
Gwen was about to tell Wren about the moment she had when Topaz when her speech was suddenly seized as she noticed Reik walk towards the bar. Rolling her eyes, she walked away leaving Wren confused, but her confusion was immediately cleared when she felt Reik’s presence next to her.
Wren Austin shivered in fear. She recalled what he did to her just a few days back. I mean, how could she forget? Her body still hurt and she had to cover up her bruises before leaving her apartment.
The blonde rolled her eyes, drank the last of her drink and was about to leave when Reik abruptly held her arm, forcing her to stay back.
“Let go of me, skank ass hoe” she spat, earning a chuckle from Reik.
“How ironic,” said Reik sarcastically, making Wren roll her eyes in annoyance.
“You can save it for later. You got a client, same room, and same time. Don’t be late” Reik said and got off the stool where he sat. Then, he leaned into Wren and whispered in her ear;
“You might wanna take five more of that,” he said pointing at the bottle. “Luke is gonna have so much fun with you” and with that, he walked away, leaving the blonde speechless.
Wren Austin blinked several times, trying to comprehend what she had just heard. Clearly, Reik hadn’t just said that her client for the night was Luke.
She refused to believe it.
She has been with men she couldn’t stand. Men whose tiny inflated wiwi smelled like a rat’s dead body. Men whose breath smiled like they hadn’t brushed in years. Yet, she didn’t feel half as disgusted as she was just thinking that Luke was going to stick it in her.
She knew that this was all Hunter’s doing. Hunter was aware that his son had feelings for her, and that Wren couldn’t stand the sight of him since the night he tried to force himself on her.
He wanted to punish her. He wanted to destabilise her, show her that he was still in control and that her life belonged to him, and what better way for him to do that.
Wren couldn’t do it. She knew Luke wouldn’t shut up about it. News about her clients flew faster than a cheetah, but she knew this one would fly even faster.
And I
“Well, damn. What did you do to piss him off that he’s making you do it with Luke” Gwen’s voice filled Wren’s ear, bringing her back to reality.
“You heard that?”
“Yeah” Gwen gave her friend a pitiful stare.
Wren Austin was sad. She couldn’t not show up. She knew what awaited her. Still, she couldn’t bring herself to move an inch.
“I can’t do it, Gwen. I just can’t” Gwen’s heart tightened in a knot, hearing the desperation in her friend’s voice.
Looking over Wren’s shoulders’ and over hers, Gwen leaned in so she could whisper to Gwen.
“I have a little something. It will know him out immediately and you know the rest” she whispered, looking over her shoulder again to ensure they hadn’t drawn any attention to themselves as she fished out a small breakable bottle and forced it into Wren’s hand.
The blonde tried to comprehend what her friend was saying, but it wasn’t until when she took a peek at the bottle before it clicked. A wave of relief flowed throughout Wren’s body and it was almost impossible for her to jump out in joy.
“I’m not going to ask why you have this, but thank you, Gwen. You are a lifesaver” the gratefulness Wren felt could not be overemphasized.
“Good Luck,” Gwen said with a smile.
Wren Austin the pub that evening feeling hopeful. She quickly rushed back to her apartment and got ready. In less than fifteen minutes, she was making her way to the common room she used for all her clients.
By the time she made it to the room, Luke wasn’t in sight, and she seized that opportunity to get everything in order. Just as she finished, the door was pushed ajar and Luke walked in. His movements were sluggish, making it look like he was drunk.
The smell of alcohol radiating off him was enough to make Wren Austin’s stomach churn disgustingly.
He used to be a sweetheart, but that changed when he treated her like all the others did.
“Finally. Daddy told me but I didn’t believe him. Finally, I get to have you, you little bitch!” as Luke walked toward her, Wren suddenly realized she could never do it with him.
Whether sober or completely blacked out.
