Chapter 66 - bought

Morning soon came and for some reason, the Watford mansion was noisy.
Unika and Nana Denise were in the kitchen singing a song the late Mr O’Connell had composed for young Giovanni and Topaz. Occasionally, Nana Denise would walk up to the stove to stir the pot of soup she’d put some while back and would return to singing with Unika.
Giovanni and Topaz O’Connell however, sat in the dining in the middle of the room and watched the other women with admiration and big smiles plastered on their faces.
Suddenly, the O’Connell kids were hit by a pleasant memory from their childhood that made their hearts tighten.
Their dad, Mr Arthur O’Connell would sometimes sneak up behind their mom Mrs Shabeth O'Connell and force the older woman to dance with him. This often happened in the evening and as Mrs Shabeth danced with her husband, she ended up forgetting the pot she’d put on the stove which will get burnt and have Mr O’Connell apologising to his wife for having ruined her efforts and ordering take-outs.
Giovanni and Topaz didn’t have any problems with that.
If they loved it because they knew that was the only time they could have take out for dinner.
So, seeing Nana Denise and Unika laughing around the stove took her back to those years.
“Watching these two brings old memories,” Giovanni O’Connell said after a while.
“Yeah,” Topaz said momentarily, then snapped out of her daydream when she recalled the talk she was having with Giovanni before they got interrupted.
“But don’t sway from the conversation at hand” she tapped Giovanni’s shoulder, making the young man gasp.
Just like Wren Austin had done with Gwendolyn, Giovanni told his sister from start to finish his conversation with the blonde and how it ended with them taking a trip out of town and Wren agreeing to be his girlfriend.
To say Topaz O’Connell was happy was an understatement. The young girl wanted to run around the mansion to express her happiness for her big brother putting on his big girl pants and doing something right for once.
But she couldn’t, so she settled for a hug and congratulated him.
Despite the merriment going on in the Watford mansion that morning, not everyone seems to want to partake in it, particularly a certain brunette-haired girl with long voluminous curls.
Sierra Eleanor Clifford stood on the threshold of the kitchen, eavesdropping on the conversation Giovanni was having with his sister and when she heard Wren’s name, she got more furious.
She was jealous and angry. Everywhere she went, someone had something to say about the blonde. It didn’t matter if they were negative or positive things.
She just wanted a break from hearing about Wren.
She thought she would have that at the mansion, but she should have known better than hoped for something like that everyone in the Watford mansion seemed to worship the ground the blonde walked.
Now, listening to Giovanni and Topaz talking so happily about Wren made her angry.
So much so that she was starting to consider the conversation she had with Luke.
She wanted to get back at Giovanni and Wren for hurting her.
And now more than ever, her mind was made up.
*********
Later that evening, Giovanni O’Connell and his little sister Topaz O’Connell made their way to the pub. But Topaz frowned when her brother kept walking, but further away from the pub.
She called out to him but the young man gave his sister a reply that didn’t make any sense to her.
The night was dark. Probably too dark considering the time was just seven p.m. the dashing young man fastened his steps as he walked towards Hunter’s hideout.
After his talk with Topaz, the young man retreated to his room and took a shower. It was under the shower that he had the brilliant idea to talk with Hunter Tequeido.
He was aware one needed to book an appointment with him, but then again, Giovanni was confident the older man will give him a listening ear once he was there.
“He is not expecting you. You can’t go in” Reik blocked the dashing young man by the door just as he was about to walk in.
“I’m here to pay for a night, do I need to book an appointment for that too?” Giovanni O’Connell clapped back.
“Unfortunately yes”
Giovanni O’Connell sighed. “Well tell him I want to see him, I know he’ll let me in” Giovanni pressed on.
The door shut before his face, leaving him stunned. It wasn’t long before the doors opened again and Reik allowed him to walk in.
“Come in”
This time, Giovanni O’Connell was scared walking through the dark hallway. If anything, he knew every bend and every puddle in the floor and it wasn’t long before he was standing before Hunter.
“It’s always a pleasure to see you, Giovanni. What can I do you for?” Hunter asked just as he too was entering his office from a sideway door.
“You already know, I wanna pay for her” the young man didn’t waste any time and went straight to the point.
“Wren?”
Giovanni frowned. Of course, it was evident he wanted to pay for her.
“How much?” he ignored Hunter’s question.
“You already know”
“No. how much? I want to buy her” this time, it was Hunter’s time to frown.
“I don’t understand” Hunter was perplexed and Giovanni wondered if this man had any basic comprehension skills. His statement was straight to the point and quite frankly, very easy to understand.
“How much do I have to pay for Wren to stop working for you” he explained this time.
Hunter Tequeido couldn’t help but burst into a fit of laughter.
“I’m sorry, but you can’t afford it” he mocked.
“Try me” Giovanni’s expression was stoic.
“Oh shit! You are serious” Hunter said firmly but Giovanni’s expression remained flat.
“Well I’m sorry but I can’t let you do that”
“Why?”
“I just can’t”
Giovanni O’Connell let out a light chuckle.
“Hunter, say the amount and you shall have it,” Giovanni said.
Hunter let out a sigh. “Fifty million”
“Done. You can send one of your men to come for the cheque tomorrow” the young man said and began to walk back to the door, ignoring Hunter who called out to him.
A sly smile appeared on his face.
Wren was finally fully his.
