Chapter 70 - drugged
"Hey, babe" Wren Austin stood from the bar stool and passionately kissed Giovanni O’Connell as he met her at the bar.
It earned a lot of 'oohs' from the crowd but that did make Wren pull away from the young man. Not after she'd missed the feel of his lips against hers.
"Well, hey to you too" the young man replied with a smug smile on his face as he pulled the seat next to her and sat.
Giovanni O’Connell reached out to Gwendolyn who was not behind the counter, struggling to reach for a bottle of whiskey that was on the top shelf.
Deciding not to meddle, he focused his attention on the pretty girl that was before him.
“I missed you,” Giovanni O’Connell said when Gwendolyn Jefferson had placed a glass of whiskey on the rocks before him.
“Oh My God. Please don’t start you two. I only just ate” Gwendolyn Jefferson said in a tone that was filled with both amusement and disgust at the same time.
Wren Austin rolled her eyes at Gwen’s remark.
The three of them fell into a line of conversation, talking about everything and at the same time, nothing. That was until Mary showed up and Gwendolyn excused herself.
“Hunter showed up at my apartment” Wren Austin said as she downed the last of the bottle of beer that was before her.
Giovanni O’Connell gave the young girl a questioning smile that indicated that he wanted her to elaborate on what she had said.
“He said something along the lines of you offering him money for my freedom. Is that correct” Wren inquired with an eyebrow raised.
“Oh” Giovanni nodded continuously and downed the last of his whiskey before speaking up.
“So he’s courageous enough to see you, but can’t come for his cheque? What a loser” he commented without a care in the world.
“Gio, he’s not one to mess around with”
Wren Austin couldn’t understand the way her voice trembled when she spoke about Hunter. True, he was scary. His calm voice made her body tremble in fear and the way he laughed sounded like a devil’s laugh.
“I know” again, Giovanni said with yet another shrug.
“How much did you opt to pay?” Wren asked.
“Fifty million”
Wren Austin’s eyes widen in shock.
“Fifty what?” she blinked several times to make sure she was hearing things that were not true.
Giovanni didn't reply and instead gave her a sky smile.
"Why would you want to pay such an amount?" Wren Austin was in disbelief. She'd never seen such a hefty amount of money but yet it was being paid in exchange for her freedom from Hunter.
"Because he asked"
The way Giovanni was unfazed by the situation is what left Wren bamboozled.
"And you could not tell him to be reasonable?"
Again, Giovanni O’Connell shrugged. "Why? He asked for fifty million, I have fifty million, I give it to him and you no longer have to abide by his rules. Viola" the young man threw his hands in the air like he had just solved the most complex mathematical equations.
Wren shook her head in disbelief. She was surprised to hear how easily Giovanni spoke about such a hefty amount of money, as though it meant nothing to him, but she was more shocked at the fact that Hunter even caved.
"Look baby, I want you all to myself. I want you to be free from him. I want you to have a say in who you sleep with" Giovanni took Wren's hand in his as he spoke.
The blonde had tears in her eyes. This was the most thoughtful thing one could have done for her.
"Thank you" Wren Austin pulled him in for a kiss. To her, that kiss did not exactly set across how grateful she was. She wanted him to know that she appreciated his kind gesture.
Just as she was about to lean into his ear and whisper something naughty, Giovanni’s phone went off and he immediately pulled away from her.
He frowned as he answered the call, and as h ended the call, the frown on his face became more prominent.
"That was Sierra baby. Unfortunately, I have to go to, an impromptu meeting" he explained to Wren as he struggled to keep his phone in the pocket of his trousers.
The blonde frowned. There goes her attempt to ask him home and ride his big shaft to show him just how appreciative she was.
It was with a pout and a heavy heart that Wren Austin watched the man she loved walk away from her.
And it was only then that she recalled that her friend Gwendolyn was part of their conversation and they had totally excluded her when she went to serve some clients.
"Don't you even dare speak to me. Now he's gone and you think you can sway me into keeping you company?"
Wren Austin couldn't quite tell if the dark-haired was kidding or not.
Right when she was about to confirm, another client stole Gwen’s attention and it was at that time that Luke Jr Tequeido made his way to the bar.
He was nervous. His palms were sweating and the small bottle in his hand threatened to slip.
"Hey" Luke's voice was shaking as he spoke.
The moment Wren heard his voice, her mood went sound. She turned to face him with a viscous and vile look on her face, scary enough to make even the toughest man run off.
"I come in peace" he raised his hand in defence. "Piece offering, let me buy you a drink"
Luke gently lowered his hands.
Wren Austin looked at him suspiciously but decided to give in to his demands, after all, she'd been avoiding him for much longer now.
"What can I get you," he asked as he stood from the chair.
The blonde gave her order and Luke walked round to the bar to get it for her.
Wren couldn't understand why he chose to go round but decided not to put too much thought go it.
Luke waited until he had Wren's order and his before walking back to the bar.
"Here you go"
"Thank you" the blonde replied before gulping the drink.
While Luke sipped his drip. A smile crept to his lips. His plan was gradually coming along and he couldn't wait until the substance took effect and then he could finally take his revenge on her.
