Chapter 27
An intense stare hours later forced the blonde to stir in her sleep hours later. For the last minute or so, she had felt that stare on her, but she had forced herself to ignore it. But with every passing second, it grew more intense.
“Gio, you wore me out. Allow me to sleep” the blonde uttered with her eyes still closed.
“But I haven’t done anything” Giovanni defended with amusement in his voice accompanied by a smile on his face.
“You’re staring too hard” Wren Austin clapped back with her eyes still closed.
“I wonder how staring disturbs you sleeping” the young man retorted, adjusting his head that rested on his arm.
“Come on, Gio! You know I hate when you do that” Wren grumbled exasperatedly, earning laughter from Giovanni.
That was something the brunette had always hated. When they had first started dating and on days when Wren would sleep over at the Watford mansion, or Giovanni would sleep over at her house, the young man woke up early and spend the next minutes staring at her until it eventually woke her up.
And it vexed Wren. She hated when people stared at her whilst she slept and of course, she had informed the young man about it, but he had defended his actions by saying; “I love watching you sleep. Every day, I find something fascinating about you and the only time I can ever fully admire your beauty without any interruptions is when you are asleep”.
After a while, the blonde had gotten used to it as he always came up with a new excuse for watching her whilst she slept until Wren had eventually gotten used to it, so much so that she missed it the months following his departure.
“I’m sorry. I was having a trip down memory lane” the look of annoyance on Wren’s face left Giovanni unfazed as he burst into a fit of laughter.
The blonde rolled her eyes and got out of the bed whilst simultaneously pulling the duvet with her to cover her naked body.
“Hey, Hey” the young man quickly got off the bed and followed Wren.
“I’m sorry” he forcefully took her hand in his and urged her to look at him.
The blonde stared at him with a threatening look on her face. She was trying to keep up a straight face but that went down the drain when she saw a smile slowly build on the young man’s face.
“Urgh” she grumbled mainly to herself and went back to bed.
It has been an hour since that incident passed. The young man was currently sprawled out on the blonde’s bed as he scrolled his phone when he saw a mail that caused a frown on his face. A frown which quickly disappeared when his gaze landed on Wren coming out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her body.
“I know that look on your face. Don’t even think about it. I have work tonight” Wren Austin regretted blurting out that statement because it caused evident tension and awkwardness in the room. This was a topic she dreaded bringing up and which she had tried by all means to avoid.
Giovanni didn’t react to her statement. Instead, he returned his attention to his emails. But no matter how hard he tried, her statement irked him and there was a question at the tip of his tongue that begged to be freed.
“Wren. I understand you have a job to attend to, but I can’t help but wonder what we are. Was yesterday night just another night with a client?” the young man questioned after a while.
Wren sighed. She should have known there was no escaping that question.
“I’m not sure what you expect my reply to be” came Wren’s reply, making Giovanni sigh.
“I want you to tell me what last night meant” he insisted.
The blonde sighed at his persistence. Giovanni wanted to know if she had regarded last night as a night with another client.
She hadn’t. Last night she had experienced full bliss. He let her take the lead and he rocked her world in ways she had forgotten even existed. Something her clients didn’t do. Usually, she’d just lay there and let them do their things until they combust, which generally happens between three to five minutes.
“I don’t know what we are. What I know is last night was special to me. I don’t want to put too much thought into any other details” she added when she noticed Giovanni wasn’t going to stop until he had a reply.
“Okay. I can deal with that” he replied. The minutes that followed after the encounter was filled with silence, with Giovanni watching Wren’s every movement.
“Is there a possibility of you quitting your job?” Giovanni asked after a while earning another sigh from Wren. He didn’t fully grasp what goes on whilst she’s at ‘work’ but the thought of it having something to do with what went down yesterday vexed him.
“You know that’s impossible” Wren replied, giving a final look to her appearance.
“Why?”
“Because it is. Tried once and that went south” Wren was fully dressed now and was ready to leave. She was halfway through the door when Giovanni called out.
“Will I see you tonight?” he called out, stopping Wren in her tracks.
“Maybe” came her reply.
“Okay. I won’t press on that. I’ll be busy with work for the next few days, how about we have a date this Saturday?” Giovanni questioned.
A date. That was a word that was long forgotten in Wren’s dictionary, so much so that she didn’t even know what goes down when on a date.
Wren contemplated her reply. Craigsburg had very few recreational spots, so going on a date meant informing the entire town about their relationship, thereby stirring more gossip from them.
Something Wren was trying to avoid at all cost.
But at the same time, they had managed to talk about her. regardless of what she did, so she might as well do whatever she pleases.
"Saturday" she replied to Giovanni and the next minute she was out of her apartment.
