Chapter 38-Date

Wren Austin didn’t know where to look, and neither did she know what to do or say to him.
Oh, wait right! She doesn’t owe him any explanation. He lost the last bit of respect she had for him after what he did to her.
So why did her heart do summersaults at the sight of him? Why did she ashamed and dirty? She promised herself to kill anything feeling she had for the man standing before her. She thought her mind and her heart were in synchronization, but the way her heart betrayed her was something else.
She took a deep breath, laced her hand further in Gary’s and took a step forward.
“Let’s go, Gary,” she said firmly.
“Here, it’s Giovanni. Let’s say hi” Gary insisted with a smile on his face.
The hairy man was already halfway gone and with the alcohol in his system, he could barely stand straight.
Mentally, Wren cursed. She hated that she had to do this favour for Gwen.
“Wren, shall we talk?” she could sense the nervousness in his voice.
“No, we shall not” she replied harshly to him before turning to Gary. “If you don’t want me dropping your ass here, I suggest you sober you and allow me to take you home” the blonde warned, adjusted Gary’s arm on her shoulder and moved forward.
As she walked past Giovanni, she felt butterflies in her stomach, and it was worse when he got a hold of her arm.
“Wren” he called out.
Wren took a deep breath. Why did he have to be so close to her? Now it wasn’t only her heart that betrayed her, but also her stupid libido that was suddenly aroused at the sound of his voice on her nape.
“Let go of me, Gio” the blonde stated firmly.
The young man sighed defeatedly and backed away from Wren.
Watching her walk away was one of the hardest things the young man had to endure. Much worse than when he left Craigsburg without informing her.
He understood that she was mad at him for having stood her up, and for what Sierra told her. But he also needed her to give him a chance to explain himself.
The young man returned that home that evening feeling like a failure. Every attempt at talking to the blonde seems futile. He had only taken a step forward with her, only to take a thousand more backwards.
But regardless, he was hopeful. He knew he could get through to her.

It was Saturday afternoon when a knock on Wren Austin’s door had her sluggishly walking to open it, and Gwendolyn Jefferson marched in with the biggest smile on her face.
"Ready to get me dulled up?" the dark-haired asked, holding up two paper bags that Wren assumed contained clothes.
"Mm, I'm not sure if I want that" she replied plainly as she closed the door and followed behind Gwendolyn with a smile on her face.
"Kill joy" Gwen muttered under her breath.
Both girls fell into a line of conversation that Wren was grateful for as it helped take her mind off a certain young man who lived there rent-free.
The blonde listened to her friend talk about her plans for the night with Topaz and how she was excited. Gwendolyn Jefferson had told herself that she wasn't going to ask Wren anything that had to do with Giovanni, but she couldn't help the fact that she kept wanting to sway the conversation to that topic.
"What time is the date?" Wren Austin questioned as she took in her handwork and nodded in approval.
"Soon" the dark-haired picked up her phone to look at the time, "I asked her to pick me up here. I hope that's okay with you?" she asked warily.
"Of course, Wren. Why wouldn't I be okay with it? I will seize this opportunity to take pictures of you two and show them to your future kids" the blonde teased with a big smile plastered on her face, making Gwendolyn blush.
Wren walked over to the kitchen area and pulled out a bottle of water before walking back to where Gwen sat. As she walked, she felt Gwen’s eyes bore a hole in the back of her head.
She knew what the dark-haired wanted to ask, but for some reason, she was scared to blurt it out.
"I'm okay Gwen. I know you're thinking about it and you're worried for me. But I am okay, nothing to worry about. I got over him once, and I can do it again" Wren said as she sat next to Gwen.
The dark-haired looked at her, giving her a look that said are you trying to convince me or yourself?
"But that's the thing, Wren. It took you almost two years to forget about him" she said.
"But I did it. I got over him and I know I can do it" she said firmly this time.
It wasn't long before there was another knock on Wren’s door. The blonde gave Gwen an excited smile as the dark-haired squealed in her seat.
She jogged over to the door when she opened it, she came face to face with a very nervous Topaz, who held a bouquet in hand.
"Hey, Wren" Topaz greeted.
Wren smiled. She liked that Topaz was nervous. At least she knew Gwen wasn't the only one who felt that way.
"Gwen, your date is here" the blonde announced, earning a little giggle from Gwen as she approached both girls.
"Hey" the dark-haired greeted as she leaned in for a kiss on Topaz’s lips. Then, Wren requested to take a picture of both girls before they left for their date.
Now, Wren was alone in her apartment and the silence suddenly felt too loud. And she hated it.
How was she going to spend the next hours in there all alone? For now, she decided she didn't have to deal with it.
Wren Austin began to get rid of what she and Gwen had used and a knock on her door distracted her.
"Did you forget something Gwen?" Wren thought it was her friend on the other end of the door who had forgotten something.
But as she opened the door, a frown appeared on her face.
"What are you doing here, Giovanni?" she questioned with folded arms
