Chapter 39 -
Wren Austin frowned at the man standing before her who currently looked rough. The handles of his shirt were wrapped up in his arms, his hair was messed up and from the way he currently leaning his body weight against the wall, one could easily tell he had been drinking.
Wren sighed and was about to shut the door when Giovanni stopped her by putting his leg in between. The blonde let out a ruffled sound to express her frustration.
“Wren, I am not leaving this place until I talk to you” the young pushed the door ajar, taking the blonde by surprise.
“Not going to happen. Now leave before I call the cops” Wren Austin said firmly and tried shutting the door again, but the young man pushed it open and walked in before she could even protest.
“I understand you are mad at me, but I can’t keep this up. you need to let me explain myself” there was desperation in Giovanni’s voice, so much so that he looked like he was going to cry at any second.
Still, Wren put up a brave front and refused to let the look on his face get across her.
“I could really care less about what you have to say. I just want you to stay the hell away from me” Wren Austin hated how much his presence got her on edge. She wasn't asking for much. Just for the young man to stay as far away from her as possible so she could return to her monotonous life.
“It wasn’t intentional Wren. I didn’t mean to not show up. I was already on my way when she showed up. Then one thing led to the other and before I knew it, you were at the house. I didn’t notice the time pass” the young man ignored the blonde’s remarks and began to explain himself, but the blonde stepped away from him and walked towards her room.
Lucky for Giovanni, he was fast enough to stop her. “Please Wren. Five minutes is all I ask” Giovanni’s eyes were glossy when he spoke this time.
Suddenly, Wren was having a flash of Deja Vu. Not too long ago, it was in a situation like this that she found herself getting lost in his beautiful green eyes and giving in to his demands.
And how did that end for her? She was slapped in the face by reality.
Wren told herself never again. She told herself not to fall into that pit for the second time, given that she was still trying to recover. But with every second spent looking into his eyes, she knew it was over for her.
“Gio” she called out with frustration and tiredness in her voice.
“Wren, please” he begged, taking her hands in his and passionately kissing the back.
“Please forgive me” he begged. He tried to lean in and connect his lips with hers.
“No, Gio, no” Wren pushed him away. Tears began to roll down her eyes and she stepped away from him. The room was filled with nothing but sobs, pertaining mostly from Wren.
“I can’t do this again, Gio. I can’t. It hurts a lot Gio and I’m still trying to heal from that. Can’t you at least respect that? You stood me up. You made me look like a fool. I was the talk of the town and not for the right reasons while you were busy with your fiancée. You got what you wanted. We had sex, and that’s it. It’s my fault for thinking there could be something more but reality slapped me in the face” the blonde’s sob got louder and deeper with every passing second.
“I just want to be left alone, Gio. Is that too much to ask? I just want my fucking life back. Away from you and all the pain” Wren Austin said.
Giovanni O’Connell wasn’t having it. He didn’t think he could stay away from her. She meant so much to him and he refused to let his mistake tear them apart.
“I promise you, Wren. There is nothing between us. She’s just a business partner and a friend” the young man defended, hoping that it would make Wren reconsider.
Oddly enough, Wren believed him. She believed him when he said nothing was going on between the brunette and him. But believing him wasn't enough. It didn't guarantee that she wouldn’t have her heart broken by him again.
"I believe you, Gio. I do. But I can't do this anymore" Wren felt a sharp pain in her chest as those words left her mouth.
"Please Wren" he begged
The blonde sobbed. "Close the door on your way out" Wren Austin finalized and disappeared into her room, leaving the young man standing there with a broken heart.
Wren Austin didn't allow herself to break down until she heard the front door slam.
Slowly, her legs gave out and she fell to the ground, balling her eyes out.
It was happening again. She kept all her emotions bottled in until she couldn't handle them anymore. The time bomb had finally exploded.
The blonde cried and cried until she thought she would pass out from crying. Her body was psychically and emotionally drained after allowing herself to wallow in pity in the safety of her bedroom.
How did she let this happen? How had she allowed herself to feel so much for a man she knew would end up hurting her?
But she couldn’t be blamed. Just like every other girl, she thought she had a shot at rekindling their love story.
She thought giving herself to him was all it would take to have him hooked.
Thinking about it again, the blonde felt stupid.
She should have followed her gut. In her heart of heart, the blonde knew not to expect any positive outcome.
But when he kissed her, held her and made love to her, she let her guard down.
And now, here she was, crying over a man she swore she wouldn't shed a single tear for.
