Chapter 69 - backing out

Giovanni’s talk with Sierra didn’t go as planned. If anything, it was worse than he could ever expect. She’d cussed at him, called all sorts of names and even told him he would regret having chosen Wren over her.
To him, her reaction was normal. After all, she was in love with him and he broke her heart. So he understood where she was coming from.
But then, what he could not tolerate was having Sierra call Wren names, and when she did, he threw a fit and it made her yell more and more.
Sierra Eleanor Clifford went back to her room panting as she had just run a thousand miles. She paced back and forth in her room, hoping that it would calm the way she felt, but even that did not help.
Never in her life has she felt so humiliated. She was an epitome of beauty. She had men and women at her beck and call. Her body was the replica of evil as it drove people to do the worst.
And her family status. That was just the icing on the goddam cake.
Because there’s nothing more powerful than is a woman who desirable and rich. Her family name made people shiver.
She could have any man she wanted. Yet, she was head over heels in love with a man who chose a slut over her.
That, was humiliation in its finest glory and the brunette never thought she would experience it.
At least not with an employee at her father’s company.
She paced again. Ruffling her hand through her hair to let out some frustration. She wanted to get back at Giovanni and show him who had the real power to damage who.
With just a single call, she could end his career. Make him start back afresh, or make sure no other company ever hires him. She wanted to make him miserable as he did with her.
He broke her heart. She makes him miserable.
That’s a fair deal.
But later that day, with Sierra Eleanor Clifford had showered and climbed her bed with calm and steady reasoning, she realized she could get back at Giovanni and still make him hers. And she would not even have to lift a single finger.
All she needed to do was get what Luke needed for his plan, and watch everything else fall into line. With a devilish smile plastered on her face, the brunette reached for her laptop and began to research.
She searched the most common substance used, how long it took for the drug to settle, and how long the victim with be passed out. Everything she needed to make her choice among the thousands of substances.
And of course, the easiest one to get.
Sierra Eleanor Clifford went to bed that night feeling satisfied with her findings.
She was going to make him regret choosing Wren over her.
Morning quickly came. Sierra walked out of her room with a smile plastered on her face. The joy radiating off her was such that made everyone in the mansion wonder if the fight between her and Giovanni did in fact happen the night before.
The brunette didn’t care about the questioning stares she received as she opened the fridge and took out an apple and walked out of the mansion with an even bigger smile on her face.
*****
It was now evening and Sierra Eleanor Clifford sat by the door of the pub with angst and panic flowing through her body.
She constantly tapped her leg under the table. Her palms were starting to get sweaty, especially the one that held the bottle she had to give to Luke.
He had given her the time when they were supposed to meet. It was an hour later and he was nowhere to be seen.
Several thoughts crossed her mind, much of which were centred around the fact that he bailed on her.
He’d tricked her and she fell for it.
Her plans to get even were down the drain.
And what’s worse, Wren Austin sat at the bar, laughing over something Gwendolyn said.
She wanted nothing more than to wipe that smile off her face.
Anger spiralling through her body, Sierra stood up abruptly and began to make her way out of the pub. Her head was glued to the ground which is why she didn’t notice the figurine standing in the doorway.
She bumped into the man, making the small paper bag she held firmly in her hand drop to the ground. When she looked up briefly and her eyes met with Giovanni, she hurriedly dropped to the ground, picked it up and was out of the pub, ignoring the way the young man called out, asking her to stay.
Her body was shaking with fear that Giovanni might have seen the contents of the paper bag she had in hand. This is why as she fastened her pace into the dark streets, she occasionally looked behind to make sure Giovanni wasn’t following behind her.
The last time she looked behind, she bumped yet again into another person but this time around, the speed with which she walked almost knocked the young man off the ground.
She immediately knew who it was.
No one was as thin as him and no one smelled like sweat like he did, which is why she found herself getting mad all over again, but this time, she began to pound hard against his chest.
“You godforsaken bastard! Where the fucking hell have you been? We were supposed to meet over an hour again” she spat out.
Just when Luke was about to speak up to defend himself, Sierra spat out again.
“I was almost caught with this shit you asshole” she yelled again.
“I’m sorry, I got caught up with setting up the room for you know what” he defended.
“And you couldn’t pick up your goddam phone?” she slapped his chest again.
“Would you stop doing that? It hurts” he cried out, making Sierra roll her eyes.
“Yeah fuck you. Count me out of this shit” she slapped the paper bag on his chest and walked away.
