Chapter 106
**Blue**
Over the next month I spend almost all of my time at the group home. At least the days when I’m not running to the bathroom to throw up anyway. Abigail and I have planned several events to bring families and couples who are looking to adopt. Even one or two of our older kids have found a new family.
Lilly comes to the house after school and is able to play and be with all of her friends. I love seeing her outside with Alan playing basket ball. All the kids are very patient with her and she’s very talented. I had no idea the number of sports she could take part in!
My baby belly has been growing fast but my doctor says the babies are looking good and my weight is in the low but acceptable range. Today is a special day because we are on our way to find out the genders!
Everyone has been trying to guess and we even gave pins for the kids to wear to see who thinks they will be boys or girls. Thy want a full party for us where we’ll get to tell everyone. The kids are so sweet and even though I hoped to adopt many more kids it feels like being here makes them all mine.
“Ready?” I look up from my computer to see my handsome husband standing in my office doorway.
Yep I have my very own office! It has a bathroom as well as a small nursery for when the babies arrive and I bring them to work with me. Artemis thought of everything .
“I’m ready, let me just save this.” I quickly save the supply order sheet and turn off my computer.
Abigail helped me get caught up on all the programs and websites we use for supplies so I’ve taken over that part of things.
Artemis gives me a small smile when I push myself to my feet and blow out a breathe. My belly isn’t huge just yet but it still feels heavy and odd to me and sometimes causes me to sway.
“Don’t you dare laugh.” I say pointing a finger at Artemis.
His smile widens. “I’d never laugh at you.”
“Yeah sure…” I grumble.
I walk over to the door but he doesn’t move to let me pass. Instead he looks down at me with just as much passion in his eyes as he did before I was pregnant.
“What?” I ask with a huff.
He leans in and kisses me softly. “You’re beautiful.”
The annoyance I felt a second ago is gone just like that and I become a puddle of goo. He says the sweetest things to me and even though he’s become a lot nicer in general, this side of him is just for me. And Lilly…
He reaches out and rests his hands on my belly. As if the babies sense their dad they start to move around. It’s not very strong yet but I can feel it and it still freaks me out a little. Feeling something move inside me is the strangest thing but it also makes this all feel more real. There are small little people growing inside me and they will be a part of Artemis and me. It’s amazing!
“Have they been good?” Artemis asks me but his attention is focused on the little stinkers.
“They let me eat a full lunch today with a good number of tums. So that’s progress! It’s been three whole days since I’ve thrown up, a new record!”
Artemis laughs. “It is! Come on or we’ll be late.”
We won’t but he has a thing about being on time and since I can’t drive I make sure to be ready to go at any given time. He takes my hand and we walk out of my office toward the main lobby. There are kids and caretakers everywhere. I love all the noise! Which probably seems odd but it is proof of how much things have changed here. The kids are happy, and I like hearing it.
Bryant is waiting for us by the car when we come out.
“Lilly is staying behind with Abigail today.” Bryant informs us. “Dane will stay with her.”
“Thank you.” I tell him and he gives me a nod.
When we climb into the car Artemis’s phone starts to ring with a video call. He sighs and answers as I get comfortable.
“General.” He says and I smile.
“Hey! I heard you are going to find out what your having. Me and the guys have bets going on this so make sure to keep me in the loop!” He says and I hear cheering in the background.
“You guys are betting on our babies?” I call out.
He laughs. “We need some entertainment around here.”
Artemis holds the phone up so I can see as well and I wave to all the guys im able to see.
“Hey guys!”
“Hey Blue!” They say in unison.
“You a doing okay? Do I need to send more care packages?”
“You have sent us enough all ready. All those sweets are making us soft. It’s no good having soft soldiers!” The General teases.
“Oh come on, you guys look great! In fact it looks like you haven’t been eating enough!” I give them my best disappointed mom voice.
“I haven’t!” One of the guys calls out followed by another.
“Pipe down you lot!” The General yells at them. “Stop bothering her. I swear you all have no manners. Sorry Blue.”
“Why? I have to make sure you guys are taken care of!”
“We will let you know what the ultrasound says General.” Artemis says cutting in.
He’s getting impatient and he isn’t exactly a fan of me being buddy buddy with so many guys. I have told him plenty of times that they consider me like a sister but he doesn’t like any guys who are nice to me. For some crazy reason he thinks I’ll find someone else I like more, but that won’t ever happen. I like him too much and no one will put up with his grumpy ass if I don’t.”
“See you guys later!”
“Bye Blue!” They all yell and Artemis ends the call.
I give him an unamused look but he pretends not to see me looking at him.
“You need to be nice to them Artemis. They can send a literal army after you if you upset them.”
“They wouldn’t do that because they know it would upset you. How did you manage to get so many men wrapped around you finger?” He links my pinky with his finger. “Everyone loves you but you’re meant to be mine.”
Here we go again…
“I’m yours, only yours. You know this very well, so stop worrying.” I turn and kiss him. “I love you. Okay?”
He nods. “Yeah. I still don’t like it.”
I laugh and move so that I can rest my head on his shoulder. He threads our hands together and rest them on his leg. I play with his fingers and admire the way our hands fit so well together.
When we arrive at the doctor’ office I start to feel nervous. So far everything has been fine but what if this time there is something wrong? I’ll love our babies no matter what but I’m still scared.
Artemis helps me out of the car and wraps his arm around me protectivel as we walk into the office. We’re greeted but the receptionist and check in. There are several other women in different stages of pregnancy waiting as well and all of them are looking at Artemis. It would be easy for me to feel jealous , which I have, but a lot of the time I find all thus attention on him funny. He all seems oblivious about it and when I would point it out he would glance around and shrug. A few times he even kissed me in front of all his fans to show them that he was taken.
So I ignore the staring and decide to check my social media while we wait. I had to turn off any direct messaging since I would receive more messages than I could ever reply too and some were either very mean or gross. I’m sure you can guess what I mean by that.
Now I scroll through comments and reply to a few here and there.
We only have to wait ten minutes before we’re called back to see the doctor. The nurse helps prep me for the exam and then leaves us to wait for the doctor. It feels like forever but she finally arrives. She asks a few questions about how I’ve been feeling and going over my vitals with me. Once she assures me that all looks good, she turns on the ultrasound machine. She squeezes the warmed gel onto my stomach and rolls the images probe along my stomach. With a few clicks, the sound of three heart beats echoes through the room.
It's the best sound in the world.
