Chapter 119

**Blue **

The ride home feels almost like a dream. So much has happened in such a short amount of time it’s sending my mind reeling. The doctors at the hospital were reluctant to send me home, but Artemis isn’t someone who takes no for an answer. By the time he finished reaming the doctor out they were happy to get rid of us.

“I hope the babies didn’t forget me already. We barely got to spend time together.” I know that most likely didn’t happen but I’m still worried.

I want to be the best mom I can be and abandoning my babies after only spending a couple of hours with them isn’t the best start.

“They will remember you. That book we read says they recognize the sound of your voice and the rhythm of your heartbeat. As soon as you hold them again, they’ll know it’s you.” Artemis says reaching over and threading our fingers together and giving my hand a quick squeeze. “Don’t worry.”

Such easy words but there are a million worries running through my head right now and I have no idea how I will ever get them to stop. I wish I could turn it off like a switch, but then wouldn’t that mean I’m some sort of psychopath? I don’t know.

We finally make it home and I see two cars parked in front. Rhea and Athena’s, I’m sure.

“I owe your sisters big time for how much they’ve helped me.” I say as we climb out of the car.

It’s slow going for me thanks to how incredibly sore I am. In the end I nearly face plant forcing Artemis to lift me into his arms and carry me the rest of the way. I wish he didn’t have to, but it warms my heart how quick he is to help and without one word of complaint. How lucky am I?

We make our way up the path and once we get closer to the door I hear laughing and babies crying. The sound pulls at my heart, and I want to jump out of Artemis’s arms and run in to hold them. Seeing that won’t be happening I wait for Artemis to step inside and walk toward the area of the house the noises are coming from. It seems to be coming from the nursery, so we head that way and when we stop in the doorway we find Athena, Rhea and Lilly all sitting on the floor trying to change diapers. They’re smiling and laughing like it’s the best thing they’ve done all day, and I admit I’m a little envious.

“Mom!” Lilly yells before waving at me. “Are you okay?”

I smile at her and nod. “Of course, I am! I just need a little recovery time. Having three babies takes it out of ya. Remember that when you have kids.”

She nods her head excitedly making me laugh.

Rhea picks up Selene and carries her over to me. My little princess is a lot calmer now that she’s don’t being changed and Rhea hands her over to me. Artemis is still holding me which makes this a little awkward, but I don’t care. Seeing my baby again is like a calming palm to my worries and fears.

“Hi little one. I’m sorry I went away for a while, but that will never happen again. I promise.” She makes a cute little sound before dosing off.

“I’ll take you to our room. Can you guys bring the boys?” Artemis calls out over his shoulder.

He leaves the nursery and heads across the hall to our room. It’s a sight for sore eyes and the smell of Artemis’s cologne and the fruity spray I use together makes it feel like home. Artemis carefully sets me down on the bed which is set up with some sort of pillow that sits up and has arms. It’s weird but really comfortable. I’m able to slowly lay back and not feel the hardness of the backboard. The thing even has pockets where the TV remote now hides.

“This is really cool.” I say wiggling back a little more.

“Rhea recommended it and this one is specially made. She said that the usual nursing pillows can be awkward and uncomfortable when you have to sit up, so she cam eup with this idea. She asked for this back pillow to be made and it has an attachable piece that wraps around you and creates the nursing pillow.” He walks to the closet and comes back with a half circle pillow and I life Selene up so he can wrap it around my waist.

He buckles it into place, and I rest my arms on it.

Oh my god! This is genius!

“Rhea came up with this?” I ask in shock.

“That’s right I did! Only the best for my sister-in-law.” Rhea says as she walks in with Damion.

I can tell it’s him because his hair sticks straight up in the back. That’s right, my babies came out with a head full of hair.

“You have to sell this thing! It would help a lot of women.” I tell her when she hands Damion to me.

“You think? I only thought of it for you, but I guess it’s not the worst idea I’ve had.” She shrugs like she’s not the smartest woman on earth.

“It’s an amazing idea. I’m so comfortable right now.” I lay my head back and close my eyes before letting out a content sigh.

An alert comes from the panel on the wall by our door. Artemis walks over and selects the camera for the front door.

“The doctor’s back. He had to grab some more supplies when I told him I was bringing you home after surgery.” He says before walking out to open the door.

Athena comes in with my last baby and Lilly behind her.

“Here, we’ll put them in their bassenets while the doctor checks you out.” Rhea says, taking Selene from me first.

I want to hold them forever, but I guess I’ll have to put them down at some point. Still, as much as being pregnant was hard I liked having them safely inside me. It’s weird not feeling them kicking in my belly anymore.

Artemis reappears with the doctor and steps aside just enough to let the doctor through, but he stays close. The doctor doesn’t seem bothered by Artemis’s hoovering and smiles at me.

“Hello Blue, I’m Doctor Smith. Is it okay if I take a look at your incision?” He sets his bag down on my side table and pulls out a few things while I pull my shirt up enough that he can see my belly.

He looks at it and presses here and there asking how much pain I’m in. Since they gave me a good painkiller at the hospital, the pain isn’t as bad, but I still feel weak.

“Everything looks good. There is some swelling which is normal, but I’ll check on it in a day or two to see how it’s healing. If anything starts to hurt too much or anything feels wrong, you can call me any time.” He says and I feel like crying because of how sweet he is.

“I don’t want to interrupt your personal time doctor. I’m sure I’ll be fine.”

He waves a hand at me. “Don’t worry dear, my kids are all out of the house and my wife passed away a few years ago. Your family is going to be my new priority.”

I look at him more critically now, but he looks too young to have grown up kids. “I’m sorry about your wife.”

He shakes his head. “No need to be. It was her time, and she went peacefully.”

I’m not sure what else to say so I just smile and nod.

“Now. You need to get plenty of rest and be sure to drink lots of water and eat often. New moms sometimes get too busy and forget which can affect milk supply. Take good care if yourself.”

“I’ll make sure she’s taken care of.” Artemis says before I can say anything. “I’ll be having a specialty chief come in everyday and prepare proper meals for her.”

“Very good! Well, I leave you to your babies. Bye now.” He waves to us and Artemis escorts him out.

Once they’re gone I blow out a breath and look at Rhea and Athena. “Your brother is ridiculous. A personal doctor and a chief? That’s way too much.”

Rhea laughs softly. “Not at all. Nothing is too much when it comes to you guys. You’re too special to be given anything less.”

“I don’t know about that…”

She sits down next to me and takes my hand. “You may not believe this but the fact that you make our brother so happy makes us happy. You have brightened up his world and ours too. We couldn’t have asked for a better sister-in-law.”

Athena steps closer too. “She’s right. I mean you met Tet’s wife. You are top tier next to that horrible woman.”

Rhea and I both laugh. “I’ll take that as a compliment.”
