Chapter 99

**Blue**

I don’t know what’s been going on but I’ve been exhausted all week. My guess is that I caught some sort of virus somewhere and my body is working overtime trying to fight it. I haven’t had any other symptoms yet but they'll show up soon I’m sure. For now I’ve been drinking this ginger tea Abigail recommended. She’s been drinking it for morning sickness and told me it’s not bad. It’s good but it hasn’t helped with how tired I am.

Over the last two weeks I’ve spent more time sleeping than I’ve spent awake. It helped that Lilly was in school so I didn’t have much to do and I could rest, but now with what happened I’m not sure if we will be sending her back there. I’ll have to figure out how to kick this weird bug so I can focus my attention on her. When I’m awake enough to be productive I’ve been looking into other schools that might work for Lilly. There are schools for kids with disabilities but not the kind she has, so that one’s out. Another one is more wheelchair friendly but it’s a public school which means it’s not as secure.

That will be a hard sell for Artemi but unless we build a school of our own then we don’t have many options. That thought has me sitting up in bed so fast that I get dizzy. I take a second to let it pass before I throw the covers off my body and stand up, but the dizziness hits again. I take in a few deep breaths and try to steady myself but my body sways.

Okay this isn’t funny anymore. I can’t get this sick right now! Too much is going on!

I try to push the feeling away and focus on getting to Artemis. That gives me some focus and I make it to his office but it was slow going. I knock on the door and cling to the doorway to keep myself upright. This isn’t right…something is wrong…

The door opens and Artemis smiles when he sees me but his smile drops and he starts to look concerned.

“Blue? Are you okay?” He asks moving to touch me.

His movements seem super slow and everything is starting to look blurry. “I wanted to…talk to you…”

My voice sounds far away and my body starts to feel too light and heavy at the same time.

Artemis wraps his arms around me just when my legs give out and darkness swallow me up again.

When I wake up I don’t need to guess or ask where I am. The cool air and antiseptic smell is all the clues I need to figure out I’m in the hospital…again. They should just reserve a room for me now since I’m in here all the time.

“Uh, this js getting old.” I say before I open my eyes.

“Blue? Fuck baby, you can’t keep doing this to me.” Artemis says.

I laugh. “Sorry. So what was it this time?”

Before he can answer me the door opens and a doctor I haven’t met yet walks in.

“Hello! I’m doctor Peters. I hear you had a fainting spell.” She says as she moves to the computer next to me.

“Yeah. I think I have a cold or something. I’ve been feeling off but this was the worst symptom so far.” I admit.

Artemis is holding my hand and he tightens his hold when I say ive been feeling bad.

“Colds and flus can cause a varieyt of side effects but I can happily say neither of this is the cause of your symptoms.” She says with a smile.

I’m a little put off by how happy she seems at me being sick.

“Then what’s wrong with her?” Artemis snaps at her.

“Your pregnant.” The doctor says cheerfully.

I think I’m about to fainting again but this time it will be from shock. I mean yes we were hoping to have a baby but is it supposed to happen so quickly? We haven’t been sleeping together for long! I mean we have a lot of sex but I figured it would take time.

“Its still early but we can do an international ultrasound to be sure the baby’s heart beat is good before we send you home.”

A nurse comes in then with a weird machine. She parks it next to the doctor and leaves like she didn’t just leave a machine with a probe in the room with us. What the hell is that thing? She moves the thing closer to the end of the bed and starts it up.

“Okay can you lift your legs up but keep your legs planted on the bed.” I do as she says and she starts to move the blanket up to my knees. “Now I need you to part them.”

She helps me get them in the right position and I want to die of embarrassment. This woman has my hoo-ha all out on display! Then she takes the weird probe thing and slips what sort of looks like a condom on it. Oh my God! What the fuck?

“This might feel a little weird at first but that will pass.” She adds some clear stuff on it as well and lowers it between my legs.

I turn my hand over and squeeze Artemis’s hand so hard that he lets out a grunt. The doctor places the tip of the thing at my entrance and I yelp and nearly kick her in her smart face.

“Everything is okay just try to relax.”

Yeah like that’s so easy when you are about to stick a robot arm up my vagina!!! Still I try my best and she start to push the thing in a little at a time. She’s right that it doesn’t hurt and it helps that Artemis is big because the thing feels tiny inside me. The whole room is silent and I wonder if Artemis has stopped breathing like I have. The doctor presses a few buttons and smiles before turning the screen to face us.

“See that right there?” She points at a blob and presses another button and a thumping sound echoes around us.

Then it got louder and…louder.

“Well this is a surprise.”

“What? Is the baby okay?” I immediately start panicking.

She chuckles and pats me on my knee. “The babies are fine.”

Did she just say babies?

“Babies?” Artemis asks.

The doctor points at one blob and moves the probe thing and points at another blob and one more twist shows three blobs. Three!

“Triplets? How?” I choke out.

“It's not common but not rare. Do either of you have multiples in your family?” she asks as she pulls that evil probe out.

“I didn’t know my family.” I admit and try to move while she cleans me up…down there.

Once she’s done I immediately cover my legs and lay them flat again.

“Not in my family.” Artemis adds.

“Well it could be far up in the family and not show for several generations. Now that we know this going to be a multiples pregnancy we need to move forward carefully. Carrying three babies is going to take a lot out of you so you need to take good care of yourself. Doing light exercise like walking is a good way to stay healthy but also eating right. You might have fainted because of you not eating enough. Although I don’t subscribe to the notion that your eating for four, you will need to increase your caloric intake. You will also need to take a prenatal multivitamin and some folic acid. Otherwise everything looks good so far. I will be treating you so ill have my nurse schedule another visit. Congratulations!” She leaves with a wave like she didn’t just drop a huge bomb!

Neither Artemis or I say anything for several minutes. The nurse comes in with a few pieces of paper and says we’re free to go. I get dressed and we walk out without saying a word to each other. Even when we are in the car driving home…nothing. It goes for so long that I feel like I’m going to break out in tears.

Is he not happy? I thought this is what he wanted! Why isn’t he saying anything? Oh my gosh what if he changed his mind now that it’s real?

“Oh my God Artemis will you say something?” I yell. “If you’ve changed your mind I’m sure there is a way to-“

His head snaps my way and he looks at me like he’s ready to kill me. “Don’t finish that sentence! We’re keeping the babies!”

“Okay but if you want them why are you acting like this.” I wave my hand at him to indicate I mean every part of him is being crazy. “ Look I’m shocked too but I thought this was supposed to be happy news.”

He pulls of the road and puts the car in park before unbecoming himself and turning his whole body to face me.

“Next to the day I ran into you, this is the best day of my life.”

Okay…that sends me into a fit of ugly crying but I will blame the hormones
