115- Time for the Beasts to Play
Lucus
After many hours later do we finally reach the base of a mountain range area. Having walked a good 12 miles from where we were from the main road to here. Not to mention that we also had to drive an extra 3 hours on top of our already 4 hour plane ride.
Having chosen an airport that was slightly further than our original one did we want to get the element of surprise. Not wanting to alert them of our presence if we could. After all, this was their playground. Not ours. So it was hard not knowing just how many spies we were dealing with.
Currently waiting at our given coordinates that were given to us do we all move to use that time to rest and regroup.
“Where in the world is that a-hole?” asks Grant, his eyes scanning our surroundings.
“Beats the hell out of me” I say. Double checking the watch given to me by Tony. My watch designed to tell that we were indeed at the correct spot.
Our breathing a little lighter as the air around us becomes cold and thin. The sun lowering every second that we stood there waiting for our source. Continuing to rest as well as catching our breaths do we suddenly hear a thick rumble sound. Light vibrations alerting us as rocks begin to move all around us.
A large cutout within the stone now moving to greet us as our eyes continue to stay focus. Are you shitting me? A fucking wall. Unbelievable. A small piece of me now curious yet giddy as Tony’s voice moves to ring within my ear through the earpiece I had on me.
“Don’t care how, but I definitely want one of those”
Chuckling I move to agree. A hidden wall built like this would be kind of cool to have.
My eyes soon noticing a tall dark figure slowly emerge from deep within, our guns instantly drawn as the figure keeps walking. Our men all in standing positions as we wait.
“Woah there. Stop everything right there gentlemen” replies a deep yet firm voice. The man’s hands now up in front of him as he continues to approach us.
“Easy now. I come to you in peace.”
Words only one would hear from within some kind of sci-fi movie, a movie that usually dealt with aliens or creatures of another planet. Like ET.
Grant slowly barking out orders to our men as our Delta squad slowly moves over towards the unknown male. Our men slowly patting him down before allowing him to move any closer to us. The night sky now making it hard for us to get a clear view of his face. The man oddly familiar to us as I continue to watch him carefully.
“You know… if one looks closely at the night sky, one would be able to see Orion’s Belt” states the man calmly as if knowing what to say and how.
Of course. That’s why he looks so familiar. This is our guy. And Orion’s Belt was our code word in order for us to know who we were waiting for.
Smirking at our guest do I move to reply back. My eyes never leaving his as I move to say similar words back. “And over there, one would see the Little Dipper and Big Dipper. But as for me, I much prefer the North Star.”
With a smile of his own do we move to shake hands. “Lucus. Lucus D’Amico” I say, my voice stern. “That there is Grant Romano and Alex De Luca” my brothers each moving to shake his hand as well.
“Pleasure. Happy you could join me. And while I wish we could chat a little while longer, I’m afraid we can’t. Isabella is in grave danger, and we must get back to her and fast” says the man as he moves to lead us into the cave. Our weapons still drawn as we do.
“By the way, the names Luca.”
Several hours later we finally move to approach the 10000 meter mark. The main house now visible through the dense forest. Lights dancing within the distance as if telling us people were home.
Perfect.
Glancing towards each of my men do my men know that once we reach the “safe” zone would we then split off into groups of three. Alex leading the Omega squad while Grant took the Delta squad. Leaving me as the reigning Alpha of the Alpha squad.
And although Alex’s team was considered the smallest compared to both mine and Grants. Alex’s team was also the deadliest. With only 6 mercenaries at his disposal, Alex and his team were considered lethal.
Another reason as to why I loved that man. Because when he wasn’t with us or Isabella, he was busy training his teams. Teaching them everything they needed to know in order to survive.
Now sitting under the safety of the canopy trees does Alex’s men work on setting up recon as well as various distractions around the compound. Another of our men attempting to hack into the electrical grid with help from Tony. Tony having prepared a nice little surprise for them as they do. A virus.
Our men all mentally preparing to do whatever it was that they needed to do. Having been told many of times that if one of them should see Isabella anywhere around the compound they were to grab her and get the fuck out of dodge. To get her as far away as possible without looking back.
Each of us expendable to some level of degree including but not limited to Grant, Alex and I. Neither of us willing to leave our dear sweet girl behind. Each of us willing to dye for her if it meant keeping her safe. Even if that meant our bodies being riddled with bullet holes.
Luca now ushering us further into the tunnel. Train tracks as well as a row of box cars now silently leading us through the underground mountain pass. The tunnels all man made from what I could tell as we move to speed along the tracks. Luca noticeably quiet during the trip. Hell. We all were to some degree.
All of us suspicious of the man who still stood before us. Yet, a piece of me kept telling me that he could be trusted. That this man was the one who sent us the blueprints. That he also sent us the letter. A letter that included all the traps around the compound while explaining that he could help us get to the safe zone undetected.
My mind racing back towards the letter. The letter in which said that all he wanted in return for helping us was to be freed of his current obligations. To be free so that he could return to his family. A simple request. And one I fully agree to fulfill once we got out of there alive. Of course, that still didn’t stop us from doing our own digging into this man as well. Needing to make sure that what he gave us was legit before finally agreeing to his terms. Our eyes and ears open as we move to exit the mountain. Our weapons drawn and ready.
12 Sectors.
12 Sectors that each of us had to clear along with each of their security checks and traps. Grant now releasing a couple of drones given to us by Tony once we had cleared the base of the mountain.
Our drones designed specifically with reflectors to help them blend in with their surrounding area. Kind of like a camouflage. The drones giving us a boost to our systems while giving Tony and his team the access they needed to hack into each security system.
Because without our bots, our gear would have been fried upon setting foot into the first set of traps. Each of us passing through 3 EMP grids, 2 land mines and 4 turrets. Each turret designed to hold poison arrows and toxic gas.
A man made steam that could knock you on your ass if not careful. Luca explaining that it was also laced with some kind of knock out gas as well as cages and bottomless pits.
Oh and did I mention, that if any trap went off before being disarmed then an alarm sounded off as well. Bloody hell.
Of course, Luca also made sure to help us move about the compound while avoiding any and all kinds of traps as well as the cameras they had within the area. Tony working on hacking into the alarm system as well as the outside cameras once the drones were free to do their job.
The goal from where we stood was to expose each of the traps and make sure each one was disabled so if we needed to flee we could without hassle. Not needing or wanting any kind of obstacle around every corner if we could. Alex’s team moving to handle them before moving onto the next.
Luca soon getting us to the safe zone as promised. Having mentioned to us that the next section would be trickier than the last. Armed by patrols followed by the warehouses that once we took each of those out then all that would be left would be the fortress and where our sweet darling Isabella was.
Luca now needing to return back before someone came looking for him. Luca only pausing long enough to hand us special radios. Explaining that he would contact us on these if anything major were to happen or change.
My earpiece now buzzing to life as Alex’s voice rings loud and clear. “Alpha. The Omega team is ready and waiting. Time for the Beasts to play.”
Smirking, I couldn’t have agreed more.
