22- A Game of Cat and Mouse
Isabella
“Angel! For the love of God! Watch it!” yells Caleb for the hundredth time as she whizzed past speeding cars, having merged onto the highway a while back and nearly hit another car while passing.
“Relax! It’ll be okay” she replies back, swerving to miss another car as she did.
The black suvs still hot on our trail. Mimicking our movements, putting the three of us on edge.
Suddenly, an idea hits me. Watching my surroundings I see a sign that said Route 6 exit which was in about 5.5 miles. “Hey Angel, I think I have an idea. Route 6 is coming up. Act like we're about to go North and exit on 6. Then when they least expect it, turn the car South and we’ll grab 24 to I74. Hopefully that’ll buy us some time.”
“That’s brilliant Bella” she coos, she and Caleb smiling at my idea. Flashing us a smile she tells us to hold on. Taking the exit, like I suggested I move to turn my gaze back behind us only to see two of the suvs follow. Being too close for comfort though, we move to speed up, for if we had hit our breaks they would have ramed right into us.
Looking into her rearview mirror again, Angel suddenly shouts for us to hold on tight as we start our turn going North. But just before the median divides, Angel quickly yanks the wheel left, barely missing a metal divider as she floors the gas pedal. Dashing to get in front of a semi-truck before speeding for the next exit.
Glancing behind us once again, I can’t help but notice that the two suvs that were steadily following closely behind us had suddenly fallen behind, the others playing catch up only to be stuck behind the truck and cars that were going way too slow. Ha! Take that bitches.
Sighing, we move to take the next exit, following the loop to head South. Deciding last second to take another side exit and take a passageway back to where we were. With no other suvs in sight we quickly merge back onto the northbound lane.
After about 45 minutes or so of driving, Caleb decides to play a game with us. Grabbing a coin from his pocket he quickly speaks up. “Hey let’s make a game. Heads or Tails? If it lands on heads we keep driving. If it lands on Tails we take the third exit, switching up directions. That way it's all completely random and makes it harder for them to track us”.
“Good idea” I tell him, liking the sound of that nicely. Chuckling, he moves to flip the coin. “Alright, Call it! Heads or Tails?” he asks. “Heads” I tell him, just as the coin lands in his hand before flipping it onto the back of his other.
The game slowly continues until we eventually end up taking the back roads that eventually merged into Interstate 74, which was what we needed to reach my parents cabin.
After another 45 minutes of driving, we eventually stop to get gas. The sun already starting to set at this point, as we had already left the city behind and all that could be seen was farmland and small towns. Moving to exit at one of our stops, we pull into a small mobile station for gas.
Running inside for a quick bathroom stop and grabbing some food, Caleb moves to fill up on gas. Angel waiting next to him. Grabbing a coffee along in the process I move to pay the cashier before returning to my friends only to find to my surprise six large suvs come speeding into the deserted gas station. Tires screeching as they surround us. Eyes wide, I move to run over to my friends only for big large men to come rushing out with guns drawn.
Gulping, I begin to tremble, my coffee slipping through my fingers and onto the ground. My eyes starring as my heart raced like a jack rabbit. One of the large men dressed in black moves to open a door. Only for Lucus to step out a minute later.
Moving my focus over to him and only him, I fail to notice his men as they move to surround my friends. My eyes breaking contact when Angel and Caleb yell. Causing me to see my friends as they were now held by four large men in armor suits.
Thrashing, they try to escape only to fail. Their struggles are like a feather trying to fight a brick wall. It was utterly futile.
“Hello Agapi Mou (My Love)” says Lucus sweetly. My eyes moving to look at him. His voice laced with darkness, as his eyes become dark and cold as he now stands mere inches from me, my hands trembling at what was to come next.
Reaching out for me, his hands move to wipe something wet off my cheek, his thumb caressing it as he did. Letting me know I had been crying. Moving closer our bodies touch, until he harshly grabs ahold of me. Strong arms now wrapped around my waist as he pulls me even closer. His other forcefully keeping my face in place.
“Don’t you dare touch her! You motherfucking ass hole” yells Caleb as he lashes out, still trying to get free of his captors along with Angel.
Slowly, Lucus turns to focus his eyes on them, without so much as releasing his hold on me. His face now sinister before nodding. “Shut them up and put them in the car!”
Nodding, his men do just that. Lucus’s attention now back on me, my breath hitching in my throat as he watches me. Eventually leaning forward as he moves to kiss me on the forehead. His kiss feeling like an eternity. My heart beating rapidly as tears continued to fall.
Pulling away, he slowly speaks up. “Come the guys are waiting for us Agapi (Love). It be wise not to keep them waiting, hm?” His charming smile now gracing his features. Yet, if it wasn’t for that dark evil look in his eyes I would have found him sexy. But now that look now held a silent promise, one where I would be in for a world of hurt once we returned home.
Pulling me towards the car, he all but throws me into the back seat. His voice calling out, “Light it up” before joining me, the door now shut tightly. A moment later, two guards move to return to the front of the car before speeding away into the darkness.
An orange glow appearing in the reflection of the car before a loud bang was heard. Stupidly I turn my head to look behind us only to see a giant fireball enter the sky. High beams now hitting me dead in the eyes as I’m forced to look away.
Lucus, now on his phone swiftly moves to place his hand on my thigh. Hoping to pry his fingers off, I slowly get a possessive growl and his fingers tightening. Digging into my skin as he did. Removing my hand from his, I try to ease my shaking body.
My eyes now trained on the night sky as Lucus’s hand stayed glued to my thigh. Occasionally giving me a light squeeze or light rub but nothing more so long as I let him touch me. Sneaking a peek, I move to see that we had been driving for at least 3 hours now. Complete and utter darkness outside and we had yet to pass any other cars on the road.
About another hour or so later, we eventually pass a large metal gate. Several armed guards, all dressed in black now stood there. As the gates open the cars all head through them. Surrounded by forest as we drove. Another 30 minutes and we eventually pass a massive opening, a runway of some kind with a large plane sitting by a hanger. Slowly, we move to pass a few equally larger buildings along with more armed men before moving to enter a massive stone structure. The cars now coming to a stop.
Wary of where I was, Lucus moves to put his phone away before grabbing me by my forearm. Yanking me harshly from the car without so much a word. Looking around all I could see were more armed guards. Angel and Caleb are nowhere to be seen.
Approaching a small metal door, it eventually opens only for Alex to step out, followed by Grant and Tony. Each of them holding immense anger on their faces as we approached. Alex holding something silver in his hands. Cuffs.
Once close, does Alex waste no time in opening up his hand, surrending the silver cuffs to Lucus who makes quick work of pinning my arms behind my back, securing the dreadful things tightly.
“Welcome, to our labyrinth” says Grant as he moves to approach us. Giving me a kiss to the cheek I suddenly feel a pinch to my neck. Similar to last time as darkness consumes me. Grant sporting a dark smirk to his face as it did.
