16.

**Emma**

I woke up to darkness, focusing at a spot in front of me. I made out a few objects which led me to believe I was back in my room at Dark Moon.

It's all real, isn't it?! Running for my life away from home. Leaving behind Mason and Aiden. Finding out the family I love wasn't my real family. Finding my mate.

Michael.

My only mate Michael.

Alia whimpered.

"We both know he loves us, well to a point due to the mate bond," I said trying to be confident.

*'It’s fading, Emma. I can barely reach out to Zane. We need them close. Safe,'* Alia said weakly.

I sat up and look on either side for my brothers. I only found one.

Where is Jonah? Both of them were usually next to me. I shrugged it off and went to the window. The moon was still up and glowing brightly in all her glory. I smiled at the beautiful shine it gave to the wet grass and leaves.

"Guess I slept through the rain....." I started to say.

Memories came back to me at full speed. Dropping to the floor, I tried to wrap my mind around what I remembered.

New gifts.

I’m the last royal.

I laughed out loudly. "What the hell is going on?" I laughed scrubbing my face with my hands.

*'It figures. Don't you think?'* Alia said thoughtfully.

All my suspicions since History class were now confirmed. My gifts since I was a kid, my wolf being white and me being kept a secret from everyone. It was all clear to me.

Hearing a movement across the room I looked up to see Noah approaching me with a comforting smile. A small smile played on my lips as I noticed his always perfect dark hair tousled and sleep was still needed by the way his eyes were hooded.

My brother, my protector.

Over the past few days, he was the one to keep me from lashing out while Jonah was the one who dished out tough love.

"Hi," he croaked and sat next to me. We cuddled together, getting comfortable in each other's body heat.

After a moment of silence, I broke it, "It’s true, isn't it?" I said softly that he alone can hear.

He held my hand and squeezed it.

"When Jonah and I were five, mom and dad brought you home saying we have a little sister. We were so happy as dad told us when we were older. We were proud to be big brothers. When we were 10, we asked mom and dad why you didn't look like us. We didn't believe what they told us till an elder of the royal court visited us. She came to see how you were doing and to see if there have been any 'changes'," he explained.

"Changes?" I asked a bit confused then I remembered being able to hear Mason and Aiden's thoughts when I tried to get them to tell me what they got me for my ninth birthday.

"Yes. Like when you first found out you can read people's thoughts. When mom and dad told the elder that change. She became worried about your exposure. We were scared that she was going to take you away, so mom convinced her to let you stay till 18 and keep you away from anything stressful or overwhelming.

“When you shifted into the white wolf it was then it was made clear to us you were truly the princess. It turns out dad was a high-ranking warrior for king Landon before he met mom and was most trusted by the king. Alpha Jack was one of the alphas, whom king Landon considered a friend. Us being twins and your protectors were the moon goddess's part in protecting you.

“A white wolf is considered a direct body to her and also most powerful,” he continued.

“These gifts I now have. Why are they coming now?” I asked looking at my hands.

“They are tied to your emotions. From the attack to Michael leaving, everything just came before time,” he said smiling.

“I'm a princess. A white wolf. My mate is a powerful alpha and I haven't turned 18 yet. That's......” I said summing up everything on my fingers.

"Overwhelming?" He suggested.

"And frightening," I said shivering involuntarily.

"We will be by your side. Every step of the way." He said with the smile I love.

*'And so would I, Emma,'* Alia offered also.

Even with their support, I still felt inadequate to lead an entire race. To be there for my mate who's hurting but won't let me in. To control these powers I was blessed with. They all believed in me so much that I was afraid that I would let them down.

"Have you ever met them?" I asked.

"When we turned 18 and was told by the moon goddess, we were protectors. Your parents summoned us to see their daughter's guards. Your father is a great man. He asked so many questions about you and didn't even leave any for your mother to ask," he said laughing at the memory.

I can only smile as I thought about how my father, the king, wanted to know everything about me.

"Who do I look like?" I asked wanting to know more.

"Neither. When we showed them your picture, King Landon said you looked just like the great queen Mina," he said smiling at me.

I frowned. The guy at the mall. The guy with the same color eyes as mine. The guy who wasn't to know I was alive. He said 'spitting image'. Maybe he knew who I was.

"Does anyone else in my family has the same color eyes like mine," I asked.

"Besides your father, your uncle does." He said, dismissing his statement.

My uncle did.

My thoughts were interrupted by a loud yawn next to me. I had to giggle because Noah was struggling to stay awake with his head drooping to the side.

It was near morning and I was feeling a bit tired also but I felt uneasy. Without knowing where Michael was and this new information about my life everything was still messed up.

"Where's Jonah?" I asked getting up.

"Gone searching for your mate," he grumbled as he got up heading to my bed.

My heart hitched in my chest. An inkling of hope began to blossom.

"Do you think he will come back to us willingly?" I asked Alia.

*'Yes.'* she answered with a bit of confidence added to her answer.

I crawled into bed next to Noah with the image of my mate in his wolf form in my head. He was strong and his posture screamed power but his eyes.

His icy blue eyes.

Pain. Regret. Sorrow. That was what I saw before he left.

Alia whimpered. *'All we have to do is be there for him even when he thinks we don't need to be,'* she said.

I will always be there for you, Michael. That's what mates do.

**Unknown #2**

“Quickly before they see you!” I shouted over the mind link. The eight wolves I was able to find followed me slowly. They were weak but we had to find refuge.

“I'm tired, sir. Can we just rest for a few minutes?” a she-wolf begged.

“You can rest when they lay you down to kill you,” I said harshly at her. The others heard and whimpered lowly.

Quietly, I waited for the pack of rogues to pass by, ensuring our scents were masked. These rogues were larger in size compared to the ones that would trespass on pack's land.

They were all ruthless, killed with no mercy. They fought with great training. I noticed this and was shocked when they attacked.

“Now. We have a three-day run ahead of us,” I said to the lot as we broke through woods.

There was one pack on the east coast that can help us.
