"Does the king knows that his wimp of a son is here with his enemies?" I asked the guard.
He scoffed. "I haven't had a chance to notify him of any events that are taking place at the palace. Avery got us on our toes with patrols and always having us in his eyesight. Since your capture they are very vigilant about the tenants here" he answered.
It's been days they haven't sent word to Malcolm and no word filtered in through the cracks about when he would launch his attack. His followers would surely be caught off guard with it.
During his imprisonment, he had a lot of time to think of the past events to the present ones. His thoughts are basically on the pups of both royals Malcolm and Landon.
Emma has acquired her gifts before her eighteen birthday and word has it she was very powerful; her body and gifts worked as one as the gossips said.
Caleb?! Though his mother was human no one knew if he would acquire any of the royal blessed gifts since his father is a prince even a banished one.
"How is Caleb with Landon?" I asked.
"He's practically one of the family. It seems that his aunt is the vampire queen" the guard said.
"WHAT!!!" I practically shouted in the dimly lit prisons.
"Keep it down will ya" he fiercely whispered.
Why weren't we informed of this? Caleb wasn't any of our concerns but a heads up would have been nice. How can Malcolm be so careless in letting his son walk freely while he tries to reclaim his throne?
"Guess our oh-so fearless leader got secrets of his own" the guard said nonchalantly. Guess so I thought to myself.
"I don't think he's a threat though. He was just an errand boy to his father. Also, he's half-human. What can he do in time of battle?" he said shrugging carelessly.
I nodded in agreement still deep in thought. I've seen Caleb in wolf form and his wolf was bigger than a usual half-human. He was big as an alpha or royal. Caleb was always mistaken for a purebred but Malcolm always found it suiting to correct that mistake. Something about young Caleb was drastically wrong and I don't know if it can help us or be our downfall. There may be a possibility that the royal blood is dominant in him but him being half-human lies the uncertainty that he may just be like Emma. A royal was never mated with a human before and the books never said anything if something like that should happen.
"Sir I must take my leave now. I have a package to deliver for our fair princess" he said patting his jacket pocket.
"From our young alpha I suppose," I said smugly. "Yes indeed. Seems like he's bent on pleasing his king" he said grinning.
"Whatever in that package better works because she's fully mated and won't think twice in acknowledging him," I said sitting on my narrow bed. "That's his concern, my concern is to find a way to get close without any problems," he said turning to leave. I watched him leave when the thought crossed my mind, when is the attack going to happen. Knowing how irrational Malcolm was, anything can happen.

**Emma**
Sitting and chatting with Ariana all my worries about Mason dissipated a lot, from what I gathered from her why she rejected Mason was due to fear.
Fear of being hurt just like those close to her. I understood her perspective but thinking that low of her given mate was wrong. An open mind was what you have to get if I had given up on Michael those months ago I wouldn't have the love and support from someone like him. Every day I thanked the goddess for keeping him alive, my blood helped a bit but we all know it the moon goddess herself give life and take it away. Michael has also changed do much from the broken man I initially met to a strong, loyal and respected man, I believe that with the help of my parents we would be great at ruling the kingdom.
Ruling the kingdom.
For a moment there I forgot about the threat against the throne, my dear uncle Malcolm. How can someone be so hateful against kinds that are somewhat like us? Without our wolves we are just like humans, standing on two feet, breathing the same air, needing nourishment to keep our bodies alive, we all shed the same blood and can die the same way.
As for vampires, we both yearn something in common: to walk among humans without fear.
Hunters of our kind have grown in numbers and strength, they can sense a vampire or werewolf a mile away. I released a tired sigh and rubbed my face tiredly with my both hands.
"What's wrong Emma?" Ariana asked. Looking at the vampire princess who looked flawless with her natural beauty but her eyes showed fear and longing, she really wants to give the mate connection a second chance.
"Duties of a royal" I said shrugging. She rolled her eyes and laughed. "Don't I know it but you got more responsibilities than myself. I don't envy you one bit. Yourself and Michael have three kingdoms to maintain peace among each other. To protect your home and the people in the wolf kingdom. Are you two ready for that?" She asked.
I smiled at her. "We are. With all the training and support, my parents made sure we get, I'm 100% sure we both would be ready" I answered.
As she was about to reply when the door to my lounge opened, my back was to the entrance, but with the wide-eyed look and gasp from Ariana, I knew who it was. Quickly I got up and turned to the newcomer, tears I didn't know I was holding escaped my eyes as I ran to my best friend.
"I'm so sorry, Emmy. I didn't mean to make you worry so much" Mason said as I held him tightly. "It's okay Masey. I'm so glad you're back. " I cried against his shoulder. I felt his wolf becoming uneasy and Mason's grip became tighter on me.
'What is she doing here Emma?' he asked over our link.
'She made a mistake and wish to correct it Masey. I know the rejection was hard but she was confused. Just....' I started to say.
"Stop it, Emma," he shouted aloud while stepping back. This wasn't the Mason I grew up with. His posture was rigid, his eyes were void of any emotion and his words were oddly cold even when he shouted.
'He's giving up on what he wants most.' Alia said to me. I looked back at Ariana, she was slowly moving towards us, her face showed every emotion.
"Mason. I'm truly sorry. I expected the worse if I accepted you as my beloved. But after talking to Emma and my uncle I realized I have to take a risk. A risk of finding happiness...." She said standing in front of him. Mason stepped away and gave her a weak smile.
"You haven't given me a chance to be with you yet you judged me. Did you feel what you put me through? Do you know how embarrassing it is to be rejected by your mate in front of your family? The one person who I longed for didn't even want me then but now she wants me now" Mason said coldly. He let out a dry laugh.
"I won't accept your rejection. Nor would I accept your apology or accept you as my mate once again. I want you to live with the pain of loss. Live with regret. Live with the pain I now have to live with. I prefer to be mateless than to be mated to someone who would always think the worse of me." He continued with a shaky voice.
His hurt and sadness washed over me like a wave. "Mason. I'm sorry. Please. I beg of you" Ariana pleaded with my friend. He shook his head and moved closer to the door.
"Good day, Princess Ariana," he said formally, bowed then left.
Ariana fell to her knees crying saying how much it hurts. I couldn't move, I was frozen to the spot staring at the door where my best friend left, 'They have made their choice, Emma. Though it was out of pain.' Alia said to me.
'He has changed, Alia, I said to her sadly, Alia whimpered. Another friend lost. I went to Ariana trying to comfort her, her cries were loud and she kept clutching her chest, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry." She cried over and over.
Though I was being there for Ariana my thoughts were on Mason, his sadness was still strong through our link. 'Mason. I... I....' I called out to him.
The words to tell him to be careful and not have this change him completely was stuck. But he replied, 'I know sis. I know' he said weakly.
Things would be even tenser now.
