**Michael**

"I'll be here when you need me."

Mate.

"He's bleeding out too fast."

"Hook him up now."

"We're losing him doc."

"He needs blood. Get the alpha now."

"Where am I?" Vibrant green grass sitting neatly on the ground, wildflowers grown in their own pattern. The air was so peaceful, the wind blew gently, touching my skin playfully.

I felt... Free. At ease. Freedom.

"Well, it's about time, my son," a sweet playful melodic voice was heard behind me. Turning around was a tall blonde woman in a long loose white dress. Her eyes were captivating a mixture of blue and gray. Her smile was comforting as she came to me.

I fell to my knees bowing to her, "goddess." I was able to say out loud.

"Hello, Michael. I've been waiting for you," she said stretching out her hand to me, hesitantly I took it and we began to walk.

"Why am I here? I don't deserve your kindness nor your love," I said.

"I see," she simply said.

After a moment of silence, I saw a white wolf approach us. At first, I thought it was Emma but the wolf's eyes were gold. A black wolf with a white right ear came beside her and followed her to us. They bowed their heads to the goddess then me.

I understood the respect given to her but why me?

"Out of all my sons, I chose you to be the mate for my daughter Emma," she said, smiling at me.

"I know you have been through a lot but you're blaming yourself for something that is much bigger than yourself. Every wolf has a road they have to follow. Some may be more difficult than others but however, you choose to deal with the obstacles that come up is of your own doing.

"I gave you a black wolf for a reason. Loving. Strength. Protectiveness. Loyalty. Wise. That's all you Michael but you're hiding it all behind that painful past. You need to let go to accept what I have a plan for you and your mate,” she said, looking at the wolves before her.

"My mate. I hurt her so bad. She deserves better. Not some traitor," I spat.

"But she still cares. My Emma is just waiting on her mate to see that she isn't abandoning him. Your wolf loves them but waiting for you," she said bending to the two wolves’ level.

"I would like you to meet Queen Mina and King Lucian. First royals." she said with a serene smile.

I bowed my head in respect as they return the same to me. "You and Emma have a long road ahead. Keep her by your side. Without her, you're nothing. Let her in, she was made for you as you were made for her, young prince."

I was confused as to why she called me that, "She's waiting for you. She's a strong one but her soft heart may or may not be her downfall. Be safe and keep your mate close. A war is coming so you need to be free in order to win the battle."

No questions were formulating in my head. The white wolf whimpered as her mate licked her face. The simple gesture ached my heart as it reminded me of the last time I spent with Emma.

Queen Mina stepped forward and looked at me. “Whatever is revealed to you soon is your path. I know the goddess made the right choice in mating our Emma to you. You would be a great leader also a great mate,” I heard her say.

They believed in me after what happened, and they're right. I need to let go but how? It’s easier said than done.

"Come now. You have to go back. Remember what we said." Goddess said, leading me away from the royals as we walked back from where we came.

"This war. How far is it?" I asked.

"Not too far but a few unseen circumstances arose so it gives you time to work on your mate bond. Don't be afraid. She's willing to be yours. Also, Michael, listen to Zane once in a while. His patience is running thin with you," she said with an amused smile.

I rolled my eyes, "I will goddess."

The meadow disappeared to darkness but the serenity was still felt.

I felt a small warm hand in mine, stroking the back of it in comfort. It felt right. Each stroke brought me to ease. The tiny sparks were welcoming as the other hand touched my cheek.

Emma.

She removed her hands just before I heard soft sobs. I wanted to comfort her but my hands refused to move with full strength. Opening my eyes, the light from where ever I was shone brightly. I blinked a few times to get used to it.

Looking around, I noticed a few things as being in the pack hospital. I turned to the person whose presence felt like a warm blanket covering me.

Her brown hair was in a messy ponytail. I wanted to just run my fingers through it and comfort her as she was doing for me.

She was mine, truly mine. I felt it. My true mate. I closed my eyes trying to push back those awful memories.

"Emma!" I called out but it came out as a whisper. Opening my eyes again, she was still crying. It was painful to hear and see. I struggled to touch her arm next to my hand. She shot up by the simple touch which I didn't mind because now I can see those beautiful green eyes that have been haunting me.

Her eyes were puffy, cheeks were stained with dried tears and her lips were dry but she still looked amazing.

This is my mate. The one who didn't give up on me even after I was cruel to her.

"Michael!" she cried out and rushed onto me. Half of her body covered mine, her fingers ran through my hair which brought a husky growl to my throat. I planted my head between her neck and shoulders, inhaling her scent.

Peaches and marigold.

Zane howled weakly in satisfaction as I felt her wolf reaching out to him. This is what he felt. It felt like nothing else in the world mattered but her.

"You scared me," I heard her cry as she pulled back and focused her mesmerizing eyes onto my blue eyes.

"S-sor-ry" I forced out. My throat was burning and scratchy.

She caught on and got me some water. As she held the cup to my lips, my eyes wandered to hers. They were slightly parted, pink and luscious.

She unconsciously licked her lips causing me to groan inwardly. Needed to taste them, feel them. A faint blush came upon her cheeks as she pulled away to get me more water.

My eyes followed her every movement, graceful.

Coming back to me, I reached out to her to hold her hand, she froze when I touched her. Her whole body went rigid. The tingling sensation came in full blows as I held on to her. This is what I refused? This simple touch of comfort?

"I'm sorry... for hurting you," I said with a raspy voice.

Her eyes widen at my apology. Tear rolled down her cheek while a weak smile played on her lips. She nodded and gave me more water to drink.

"You were in pain. You don't need to. I'm sort of understanding why you did what you did but at this moment, you should know that you're not alone. They are your burdens to bear but support and comfort are always there. All I can do for you is to be there for you. We're mates. The love doesn't have to be there for us now but I can be your friend," she said sitting on the edge of the bed.

Friend?

*'She's keeping her walls up. She's afraid,'* Zane said sadly.

"I don't want her to be scared of me. I won't hurt her again," I told him.

*'Tell her,'* Zane pushed.

"Emma I ....." I started to say before the opening of the door interrupted me.

Growling, I turned to see the doctor along with my parents coming in. Emma moved to make way for the doctor as he did a check up on me. As he did that, my mother was fawning over me as I struggled to get a view of Emma then I heard the closing of the door.

She left.

I was a bit disappointed. She saw us as friends now who happened to be mates.

How can I get her to see that she was all I thought about since I left. How can I prove to her that she's all I want now.

This is my second chance with her, I must find a way to let her know that I no longer wish to run. She has to know but how?
