39: Primus

*Engaged*? Diana was engaged? Could this perhaps have been the reason she and Sebastian hadn't ended up together?
Sebastian looked taken aback and stared at me stunned. If I were looking at Diana right now, I was sure my expression would have been the same.
"E-engaged? To whom? Who could have possibly stolen your heart enough to make you want to marry them? Was I mistaken in thinking that we were mates?" He uttered. I could see by his watery eyes how heartbroken he was, and I wished now, more than ever, that I could reach out towards him and comfort him. My wish, was, however granted when Diana did it for me. She touched at his shoulder and I felt hot tears streaming down my face and a lump begin to form in my throat. Was I crying too?
"You weren't wrong, Sebastian. I've known that the two of us were and are mates, for a while now too. And the only person capable of stealing my heart would have to be you."
So, it seemed Diana was Sebastian's mate as well. It didn't make any sense though. Then again, I couldn't really deny any truth in it. After all, I had two mates as well.
"So then why are you getting engaged to someone else. If anyone, you should be marrying me." He uttered.
I hesitated a while before finally answering, "Because you're a Prince and I'm not anywhere near a pureblood vampire."
"What does that matter? No one has ever thought any differen-"
"That's not true, Sebastian. You don't know what it's like to be a hybrid... not just that, but the first hybrid."
The first *hybrid*? Diana was a damn hybrid too? Not only that but Sebastian was a *Prince*. None of this made sense, none of it. But the more I thought about it, the more I began to wonder if this was a period before the infamous Hybrid War. It had to be if Sebastian was the Prince of Vampires and Diana was a hybrid.
Perhaps that was also why they currently treated Sebastian as an advisor... no, as though he were less than noble status. He came from a different time and clearly had his own different beliefs. Someone like him, was just as bad as someone like me.
"You're right, Diana, I don't know what it's like to be a hybrid, but that's not a good enough reason to go and marry someone else. If anything, you should be marrying me, not someone you don't even love."
"Your father may accept me, but your mother *never* will. My father is a Founder vampire and yes, that gives me a higher status amongst other vampires. But my mother is a werewolf, and to make matters worse, she's an Omega. That reduces my status significantly. The only family *willing* to take me in, and willing to help uplift my status is the Chase family. I *have* to marry Malcolm Chase. No just for me, but for my descendants. You know how important status and position is to vampires."
I couldn't even begin to comprehend what I'd just heard coming from my mouth. Diana was actually engaged to one of Xavier's relatives. Judging by the fact that there were no more Generation Zero or Founder vampires left alive, he must have died in the Hybrid War. Perhaps Diana had died in the war too.
"Can't you just try to see that marrying you will do us both more harm than-"
But he cut me off with his lips which pressed gently against mine. For a moment, I was frozen, and I assumed that the action had caught Diana by surprise. But eventually, as Sebastian's lips began to move against mine, I began to react as well, kissing him back but not as gently as he kissed me. My hands made their way to the back of his neck and slowly my fingers began to tug at his hair. Sebastian pulled me closer against the nakedness of his chest and I found that his skin had begun to heat up significantly. Our lips parted and we were left panting and still wanting more. Sebastian leaned in again, this time to the crook of my neck where he began laying soft kisses against my skin and I shivered under his touch.
"Only shiver like that for *me*." He whispered, and I felt the strange sensation of Deja vu hitting me.
He then opened his mouth and teasingly nibbled at my neck and I grew stiff with anticipation and excitement. I remembered how painful it had been when he marked me, but how pleasurable it had been as well, and now I waited to feel the sensation of his teeth in my neck. But it never came. Instead, he pulled away from me, tilted my chin up slightly and looked me straight in the eye before saying, "I don't care what my mother thinks. I don't care what anyone else thinks either. You're mine, and you have been since the moment I met you. I will die before I let Malcolm marry you." And with that he let go of me, turned around and began stomping off, out of the shallow waters of the river. He grabbed his clothing and was about to walk off when I call out to him.
"Where are you going?" I asked.
Sebastian turned towards me with a deep, determined look on his face and said, "Making sure you don't marry the wrong person. And making sure those lips don't touch anyone else's. You're mine Diana Lorenzo, and *no one* is going to take you away from me. *Mine*." And with that, he left. He never stopped once, not even when I ran after him and called after him, trying to stop him from running any further.
"Sebastian wait! Don't do this Sebastian!"
And as I ran with him far off in the distance like a tiny moth in front of me, I realised that it was getting darker and darker and the wooded area was beginning to grow denser and denser. Then something strange began to happen. It was as though my body began phasing out of Diana's. As though as she ran, pieces of me began to leave her. Soon I was completely free from Diana's body and I found myself stunned at the strange turn of events. Never, in these dream-like memories, had I been in my own body before. I got up from the ground and watched as Diana ran further in the distance, quite a few steps away from me. Her long brown hair bounced with each movement of hers, and then suddenly stopped as she froze. Slowly, she began to turn back towards me, and my breath hitched. I couldn't quite see her face. In fact, I'd never been able to see what she looked like clearly, and so as she neared me, I found myself bursting with curiousity. My feet began to move on their own, nearing her too and closing the distance between the two of us. All I could catch a glimpse of was her golden eyes which seemed to gleam amid the darkness. Could she see me?
"Did you find it?" Diana asked as she continued taking her steps towards me. It seemed she *could* see me. In fact, it seemed as though she even knew me.
My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Find what?"
She stayed silent for a while, still determined in her steps and I followed in her actions... until she was just a step away from me. I couldn't believe my eyes as they examined her face. In fact, I rubbed at them a few times, to make sure I wasn't just seeing things. But no matter how many times I rubbed, her features remained the exact same.
"What the fuck..." I uttered beneath my breath.
Diana, the young woman in front of me didn't just share a mate with me... she shared my face as well. It was like I was staring straight into a mirror. The only thing different between the two of us, was our hair colour, with mine having been dyed red. But if it weren't, we'd be replicas of each other.
"Have you found it yet?" She uttered.
I could barely get any sort of words out as I stared at Diana and so I just stared at her, still stunned. So, she repeated, "Have you found *it* yet?"
"F-found what?" I managed to stutter it out.
And then slowly everything around the both of us began to disintegrate like it had the previous time. I watched as the greyish trees around us began flaking away, their leaves turning into powder and floating around in the air until they disappeared.
"You need to find it." I heard Diana utter. My eyes set on her and terror began to sink in as I saw her skin begin to flake off and disappear.
"Find what!" I yelled, trying to get an answer from her before she disappeared.
Finally, it left her lips in a low whisper, "Primus."
With that, she disappeared too, leaving me alone in the darkness.

Also, if you've read my novel "The Alpha's Vixen", then you'll find that I like to link a lot of things up. The same is true for this novel. (Hint: check the chapter titled "Rumour has it").
